At one time, i was an absolute huge fan of Harry and Hermione in Harry Potter. I never really got over it....it just hurt worse when JK herself admitted that re-reading the story as a reader instead of a writer, my gut feeling about them was correct to start.
She didn't say that, she said in some way Harry and Hermione are better suited than her and Ron, which is true, Ron was a complete git most of the books and didn't grow up until the last third of the last book. However Ron and Hermione had been set in stone from the first book, as was Harry and Ginny. I'm a massive fan of the latter, the mere idea of Harry and Hermione used to make me feel sick, it still makes me feel quisy thinking too much about it. Those two were written as brother and sister. If JKR was to rewrite, she'd probably go with George or Fred as the pairing for Hermione, she'd probably give Ginny a stronger role, apparently her subtle hints towards Ginny being ideal for Harry were too subtle to many fans. And if she was going to make Harry and Hermione, she'd have to change their relationship completely because otherwise it would be like reading incest. The two worked so well together was because there was no sexual tension between them.
My shipping letdowns were lets see, Sakurasou's main pairing between that was a major letdown, that wasn't even a pairing, it was a clutch, she was useless in living her life and somehow always bought the worst out in him yet Nanami got shafted even though she showed much better suited for him. It also pissed me off how the moral of the story was how you shouldn't blame others an fate on your failures but learn from them and move on, yet Nanami had to constantly struggle, never gave up and still failed. I've got so many, but I can't think of any at the top of my head....I think most of the time once it becomes obvious the auther is going to stick to a pairing no matter how unsuitable it is, I usually drop it, unless i'm heavily invested in the stor, in which case the romance is usually a side plot.
