I was under the impression Naruto was the only one to ever have mastered sage mode? Please correct me if I'm wrong...
Kishi doesn't care...the only thing I can possibly think of now, Minato learning from Naruto's subconscious

They both trained under the Jiraiya, .... it's extremely likely Minato too would have gotten sage mode.
It's not about whether it being likely or not, it's that Minato chooses now to use it. I'm sure plenty of opportunities for it came earlier in the battle against Obito.

Pein, Konan and Yahiko also trained under Jiraiya. Seeing this only makes me want to see Slug Sage mode and on a damn female.
