Kishimoto avoids romantic interaction? (Spoilers?)

I guess I should be more specific. When I say "shonen" I talk about a certain type of show. Example, when everyone talks about Naruto, they talk about it with Dragonball, Bleach and One Piece. Maybe they're all shonen, but Ah! My Goddess they are not.
However let's compare Naruto with Luffy or Goku. All of them share similarities and I'm pretty sure Kishi and OPs creator admitted that Goku inspired their own protagonists, but they're motivations are all different and I think Naruto is definitely a lot different from the other two.
Naruto's strongest desire is to be acknowledged and loved. That's why he wants to become strong. Why is Sasuke so screwed up? Because he loved his family, brother included and it was all ripped away. Why was Gaara so insane, because of love. Haku and Zabuza's end? Love. Yahiko, Konan and Pein? Love. I can go on this vein for a while...
Almost every important (and non-important) character in this series has been affected by love or the lack thereof.
I'm not sure how I can envision something like Naruto wanting to be Hokage for the hell of it. Can you?

So are you talking about many kinds of love, not only romantic love? Well, I can certainly agree here. Even if the manga shows plenty fights, the most important characters and many secondary ones have pretty well defined relationships.
I can think of several action shonen manga where the characters have few defined relationships and motivations out of the main cast. Hey, I like them, but Naruto isn't like that.
That is my point. They are shonen manga AND romantic comedies. Romance and shonen manga aren't antagonic concepts.
I understand. My trouble is many people -I'm not saying you are one of them- thinks that certain type of shonen is the only type of shonen.
Mm... I can see your point with Goku. I can't talk about Luffy, though. I have barely seen some chapters of One Piece.
Seriously, not. But trying envisioning it is funny, nonetheless.
Anyway I think the personal interpretation plays an important role when we judge one show. You and me can think the characters have deep motivations, but other people can think they are shallow and archetypical. And vice versa.
To some people, Evangelion was a deeply complex and philosophical anime. To me, its complexity is inexistent, and I can find a bigger complexity in older robot animes -like Gundam-, whereas other people can find them superficial and boring shows.
Do you want to take over the world, huh? Well, you'll have to go through us first!

Naruto explicitly states his reason to become Hokage. He obviously has a crush on Sakura in manga (and while the reader is left ot figure out why he has it, it's still there).
Jiraya and Tsunade even if we never saw it work, is pretty damn obvious. Kishi didn't avoid it.
And the parallels between Jiraiya and Naruto couldn't have been beat into the heads of the readers harder.
I'm not saying Naruto is this ridiculously deep and complex anime. I don't necessarily think it complex. Is Naruto wanting love and acknowledgment deep and profound? Not really, doesn't everyone want to be loved? It's actually pretty simple.
A bit of a tangent: If I had to call something deep, it would be the fact that he hasn't severed the bond between Sasuke and himself. Would you be able to do so if you had a friend that treated you like Sasuke treated Naruto? Personally, I'd have to be honest to myself and say hell no! But I can still sort of feel admiration for Naruto's character for being able to be that loving/forgiving. You don't see that kind of thing in reality too much.

I'd say romance actually is important, although not the main focus of the story. That's because romance can lead to character development, and in some cases give closure.
In Naruto's case, most romantic interaction occurs before or after a major battle, which would make sense, since we can't exactly expect Sakura to make out with him when they're right in the middle of an urgent mission. Kishimoto has made it clear that the two of them see each other as one of the most important person in their lives as well. On top of that, it feels so natural.
I should also add that Asuma and Kurenai were such minor characters to the story. You see them together a couple of times, but that's all that is neccesary. Showing their development would have detracted from the story. Besides, they were adults, so them sleeping together was perfectly plausible. Now if you pulled that off with Naruto and Sakura, I'd demand to see at least the begining of that incident, as given their age I would not expect them to be having sex.
Naruto, the way it's going, doesn't strike me as a story that will remain paringless. It's a coming of age story, Kishimoto stated he wanted to take it to the next generation, and in Naruto's case, why wouldn't you end it with him having a family, when he started the series all alone, not just without friends but family as well? Those sound like good incentives to end everything with a pairing. Now, Bleach is a manga I can see going pairingless, no matter how much you may love IchiRuki.
Not really on topic, but a lot of people have said that Ranma 1/2 ended with the pairings being open-ended. No it didn't!! Ranma admited he loves Akane, and she seemed to have no problem going through with the wedding, and said it was because he did love her. And then the final panel shows them running together, with their smiling faces in the sky. I think the jury is in!!! They don't have to be in a comitted relationship to be a couple. If that were true, then Asuma and Kurenai by those standards aren't a couple either.

No NaruSaku, no SasuSaku, no NaruHina, and no NaruSasu.

I think that we'll get some hinted NaruSaku scenes in the end

If he does that, he might as well show it!

Kishimoto: As ideas come to me, I try to include them. With the volumes of Naruto manga I've put out so far, I've already done most of the things I wanted to do. So now I'm trying to figure out what to do next. Well, I haven't really written about romantic relationships...
i thought this was a definite clue that kishi was gonna make some kind of pairing hopefully between his own main character?

My NS-ers if your looking for romance between Naruto and Sakura (assuming Kishi is going their way) then wait until Nov. because Sakura storyline will start and what's a better way of ending and beginning the year NS!!!!!!

What happened with Inuyasha is that the only reason it was really shonen is because of tons of action and innuendo. I don't think Rumiko Takahashi woke up one day and said " I think I'm gonna write a Shonen today!". I think she wrote what she wanted and had no intention of making it "fit" within certain perceived guidlines. I can understand, though, how off-putting some of the Inuyasha "shojo-moments" were, partially because many had all the subtlety of a Vegas casino ad.
I'm sorry it sounds like I"m coming down hard on the guys here. I love you guys

Besides, it's either NaruSaku or NaruHimself, she's the only girl he loves dearly and interacts daily with, NaruHina, NaruTen, NaruTema, NaruIno all have the same chance, which is about 0.
And if Kishi for whatever reason pairs SasuSaku, I'll be more angry at the fact he completely threw away her growth, and made her use Naruto like a tool to get him, which puts her on a level equivalent to Orochimaru and Madara.
Well whatever, I have no doubts about it happening, it shall happen.
