In love is not over the same guy. They were love rivals before; fighting over Sasuke. Asuma does not want Ino to find somebody first, or to win in a love triangle. What I think he's trying to say is he doesn't want Ino to lose to Sakura in love by not finding it. It could even hint he foresees that Sakura has a love-life going on, and wants the same for Ino.
I find it more a fatherly want. Be strong and be happy in love. However, being her sensei he puts it in terms that she will understand while still treating her with the relationship of a sensei. They are ninja who fight one another, so I thought it would be a good comparison for him to make. Don't let your rival and friend get the best of everything. You can be just as successful in life too.
