Here's another idea, if your trying to write a story that has a lot of romance and drama, try watching the Eureka 7 series.

But I don't like pacing myself...
I like being spontaneous!
I like blurring that line of forced creativity and mental breakdown!
I li--*dies*
...That's probably the reason I haven't finished a fic/chapter in a long while.

Music is also nice as some have suggested, but I find that it is less soothing than the above method. Nevertheless I have a few tracks (Mostly game/anime OSTs, movie soundtracks, and various trance tracks).

10 of that type of review is worth a 1000 awesome story reviews.

i agree. also, some catagories may be more popular than others. for instance, garden of sanctuary is a good fic. but just becaue it is tragedy, it doesn't have that many reviews. but the story is no doubt a masterpiece.

What really gets me though is the whole concern over popularity. Sure I can go to my stats page and see that my story's been accessed so many times, and reviewed so many times, but that's not what keeps me writing. If you write, for god's sake do it for yourself. None of us are professionals (Well, the majority certainly aren't), we don't write for money, there are no publishers breathing down our back, yet for some reason we act like we have all those problems and more. By forcing yourself to write stuff for others you are taking much enjoyment out of the activity.
