Seeing how Kishimoto said he will have to discuss Madaras defeat with his editor it could very well be a mix of building up the suspense along with him running out of ideas.
Well, he has had Madara almost kill off his two leads without either having a chance to fight back. I certainly can't see where he is going with this and I don't think I have the patience to wait for him to figure it out.

So I know Kishi said that two characters would die during the war... the first being Neji. Now, maybe either Sasuke or Naruto will die.

It's ridiculous how Sasuke failed to even attempt a defence against Madara. He might have been immobilised but Susanoo could have protected him from the blade. Of course, Madara would probably destroy it by using either HGR or a blunt force attack but that's a few additional seconds of life that could have given someone else like Orochimaru (assuming he actually intends to preserve Sasuke's body) a window to mount a rescue effort.

You do realize you're talking about Sasuke the dumbest character in the story, this guy needs other people to tell him what to do.

Really? I would be impressed if Kishi actually had the Kages keep their word and enter the fray against Madara again with Orochimaru fighting next to them. It means more combat feats for Tsunade and we could finally receive the long awaited unveiling of Orochimaru's power at full strength (ninjutsu included).

Sasuke may be impressionable but his intelligence (especially in combat) is definitely above that of a twig's. He's shown proper defencive measures in the past like against Danzo when he rushed him at the beginning of their fight and later against Tobi as he was protecting Naruto.
