Attack on Titan (Shingeki no Kyojin)

It does not in any way resembles the criteria given by the thread starter but this was the first anime i watched after the "tragedy"

The gore and brutality lifted me up in high levels.

It mirrors what i felt after reading the Naruto epilogue and all the gritty details of that anomaly of a movie called the last.

Try it..rather than romance anime/manga that only reminds me of how NaruSaku should've beens, AoT pumped up my spirits and cheered me up in a different twisted way...if you know what i mean

Attack on Titan? It's intense and it's gross and it will make you forget about Narutard. XD

Sword art online

Kaze no stigma
Full Metal Alchemist
Full Metal Panic
Inuyasha
Ranma 1/2
Naruto- whoa wrong anime (ignore this one).

That's all I can think off for now.

The Devil is a Part Timer got me out of my funk after the disaster that was the Naruto conclusion. That series is only one season, but it is hilarious. If you read the light the novels that continue the story, there's much more to be explored. I haven't been disappointed in what I've seen so far. Hopefully it gets a second season.

Here are some in my collection that make

Yu Yu Hakusho has far less emphasis on romance, although it is there.

I just discovered Buso Renkin, and while not as intricate a plot, it too had a very good, conclusive ending. Love the heroine in this one.

Rurrouni Kenshin seasons 1 and 2, then continue on with the manga. The third season is filler.

Full Metal Panic plus the light novels is great. One of my favorite endings ever.

Watched Accel World recently. It was alright. Only one season here too. I liked the fact that the hero is atypical in terms of physical appearance and the female lead is the strongest character. Not sure where the story goes moving forward in the light novels though.

Eureka Seven is very good if you stick it out to the end, though Renton gets on my nerves sometimes.

Last, but definitely not least... Stein's Gate. The development is awesome throughout. The movie that continues the story is even good. I don't remember the last time that a movie flowed so well with the rest of the anime.

There is one that will have you laughing from beginning to end.

I forgot the name, but his main character was this sort of delinquent type, with glasses, and a goatee, in this story he is in love with this (very clueless) girl, and she herself is in love with someone else. To make matters complicated one of the girl's best friends falls in love with the main protagonist, and the protagonist finds her obnoxious. God dammit I wish I could remember the name so I could watch it again.

School rumble. That's the manga name.

Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works is where it's at.

Rin Tohsaka's the page image for TV Tropes Tsundere section for a reason. She's the queen. But the good kind. She's not the "beat the love interest for minor infractions" sort. Only time she ever REALLY fights him is really early in the anime, it's for plot reasons, she only intends to actually take the MC out of the war without killing him (the opposite of the usual MO in these situations) and her "intent to kill" is easily seen to be ninety percent bluster. She also has nearly as much screen time as the MC and is damn useful in a fight, which is more than can be said of Shiro until at least halfway through (she's a bit outclassed by the end, but at that point the opposition is Gilgamesh, the goddamn king of legend, so it's not exactly hard to believe).

The two also have pretty good chemistry.

Shakugan no Shana's a good one, too. The love triangle gets a little tired, but that's at least in part because the love rival, Kazumi, not only has almost no chance right from the start but at times feels like she's barely a character. It's otherwise a pretty strong one, overall, and Shana is made of pure Tsundere. Hell, she's her own brand of Tsundere so popular she spawned a bunch of "Shana Clones".

It's a huge time sink, though, so be aware of that. It's a three season anime at twenty four episodes a shot, totaling seventy two episodes. It's third season is also, apparently, divisive, in that some nuance was lost in the transition from LN to anime that set up the big twist that drives the third season.
