I'm not expecting anything honestly from 699/700
Me neither. This new movie's promotion made sure of that.

I posted this in the movie thread as a link. But I am posting it here because I think my response towards the end about why my criticism can't be used against NaruSaku as well is a little weak and I'd like some input:
What really tickles me about fandom in general is that they don’t see the implications of what they’re speculating.
I like to look at things from a writer’s perspective, I look for the cohesion in the narrative which means, I am not considering here that an author would just stretch things out to nonsensical proportions just for profit gains (this is a possibility tho), nor am I expecting “asspull” to be part of the equation (this is a possibility tho).
Let’s take the NH angle for instance. Let’s take all the NH speculation at face value.
1) We assume Hinata and Naruto are a established couple.
The idea of a “NH” film that takes place two years into the relationship doesn’t make any sense. (If they are already a couple this will certainly be cemented in the manga first before the time skip). Not only does it contradict this “first love or discovering love” whatever the translation thing is that we are supposed to be taking in a romantic context but it seems to contradict the narrative value of the whole scarf and flashback thing that. Why the big mystery? Why go out of your way to create this memory that borders on retconning preexisting canon (the lack of Naruto and Hinata childhood interactions) for an established pair already in love?
If we look hard and objectively into the interactions between Naruto and Hinata it seems (from the little we get from the trailer) to be not much different from the manga. That doesn’t make sense.
The fandom speculation of Naruto saying to Hinata “I have to tell you something….” as a prelude to a confession on his part doesn’t make sense
The fandoms speculation of Sakura urging Hinata on to chase after Naruto doesn’t make sense if they’re a couple.
2) Naruto and Hinata are not a couple:
a) This means that two years after her sacrificial confession Naruto still hasn’t responded to Hinata…. If you add on to the fact that people have been claiming that Naruto has long since moved on from Sakura now, that it takes Naruto an additional two more years since Sakura’s confession (the point where he turned for good to most people) to resolve the situation with Hinata is beyond suspension of disbelief.
Too add on to that: If we consider fandom speculation regarding “I have to tell you something….” Naruto is possibly just now realizing he loves Hinata and should do something about it.
HOW is that possible? Did Sasuke turn evil again and Naruto is putting his love life on hold? Have they not been in the same village for those two years? It doesn’t seem from the trailer that Naruto has been away from The Leaf.
b) Hinata has regressed back to her shy hiding behind her tree self. This is the only way to explain how she had not confronted Naruto about her confession. Especially considering that she makes a definite wish to “walk beside him” or “hold his hand” I forget which it was, but it was something that she definitely wanted in the manga. So I guess she backed off that determination for two years?
So for Naruto and Hinata to not be a couple by this movie’s timeline, since Hinata has already confessed and is waiting for a response. We have to assume one or more of the following:
Naruto gave Hinata some form of a maybe and the only reason he would do that is if he needed some more time to get over Sakura (which I must add completely destroys any notion that he only had a crush on Sakura) and Hinata understood that and backed off
Naruto is a kitten for not responding to the confession for two years
Hinata’s character regressed substantially she retreated into the background waiting hopefully for Naruto to come around for two years.
No NH fan would willingly like to accept # 2 or # 3 and then try and call it a decent romance with a straight face. Besides neither options are in-character. So you have to accept # 1 which means Kishimoto made his main character be in love with Sakura for 15 years of main story time, had Naruto work himself out of it for two years off-panel, and then he handed off to the anime team the new movie to celebrate his new girlfriend.
Now to me that sounds really crazy and I’ve never seen anything like that.
Now granted Kishi may be breaking some new literary ground. It sounds like terrible romantic development to me but that’s subjective I guess.
Now for the sake of the argument. some may ask can’t everything I said above relate to NaruSaku? Well perhaps…..If Naruto confesses to Sakura in the next chapter and Sakura acts like she didn’t hear him for the next two years.
If some of you don’t get what I’m saying here it is in a nutshell.
Hinata (chasing) ——> Naruto: Hinata has confessed
Naruto (chasing) ———> Sakura: Naruto has not confessed
Hinata has been waiting openly for some time an additional two years of off-panel time-skip after her confession and after Naruto has cleared up his Sasuke issues is so unnecessary it borders on nonsensical.
IMHO as far as NaruSaku is concerned
1) Naruto is the main character his development is story development. 15 years of likening Sakura is 15 years of in-manga characterization. him maintaining such feelings or him keeping a character trait off-screen will always make more sense than him developing new feelings off-screen or moving on off screen.
2) The Sasuke baggage was so heavy (I’ll focus more on this point when I write up a rant of why to me personally if find NS to be superior to NH and SS before the next chapter is out) starting now is the only time where they could actually talk without that wall between them.
I think there’s a difference between waiting for someone to answer a confession and waiting for the right time to confess,
But that’s just me though maybe you agree as well

And we will just get a confirmation on ns nothing more can be expected.
And leave that kittening trailer alone. Its not the first time we are getting a trailer like this are we? Have u forgotten how was trailer of RTN was?02thats exactly what happened with Road to Ninja. (The movie mainly centered on NS even though NS wasnt in any of the trailers) If you dont learn from the past, youre doomed to repeat it.02

I would like to hear ur reasons .RTN was completely different
Posted 01 November 2014 - 08:14 AM
I still say the manga will end with Naruto and Sakura together. This movie feels like a story that Kishi came up with to give Hinata some closure with Naruto, considering how popular she became. Hanabi's plot will serve as a catalyst for Hinata to change her priorities. The manga itself will stand on it's own without you ever needing to see this movie. The manga is what is important. Everything else is just extra that in some way you could tie into the manga. Kishimoto is a mangaka, an author not a movie script writer, therefore the only thing that is published in print is canon. No author is going to take 15 years to tell his story and then at the end leave it hanging.

Posted 01 November 2014 - 08:34 AM
as i dun agree with u completely
popularity does make an influence to writer
moreover
Naruto moving on would make sense only if SS turns canon
or else it will be like ....Naruto left Sakura alone & went to Hinata
which would prove he actually liked her superficially
& If SS doesn't happen in manga ...NH will be kittening stupid
But, I dunno if Kishi thinks the same
Isn't NaruSaku more popular than NH in Japan? If popularity had a lot of influence on Kishimoto than IrukaKakashi should be canon.
I do agree we don't know if kishi thinks the same

Even Junko Takeuchi ships Naruto with Sakura, right? xD
Dear, I wonder how is the japanese NS fanbase right now.

According some folks around here I've been reading a different manga and fans are the ones that write it.
