From what I've heard, Kakashi/Iruka is the most popular pairing in Japan...

 

I think compared to NARUHINA, NaruSaku is much more popular. Along with SasuSaku.

Poop flavored curry, because then it's at least edible.  It's just the taste that will be awful.

 

Who honestly expects a SS moment next chapter?  Honestly, I just can't see it.  Rather, Kishimoto drew ASS moments in three chapters, consecutively.  I doubt he would after doing all that.  If so and he shoots it down again later, then he really must dislike this pairing.

What people seem to miss is that SS is not the most popular straight pairing as a whole, it's the most popular pairing among the FANGIRLS of the internet.

 

Those fangirls are the ones that like to make the most posts and pictures that are related to romance, so it's their voices that are heard the loudest.

 

My guess is that in Japan, contrary to the girls, the guys are more focused on the actual plot, the action, and discussing which character is stronger. They might think that discussing the romance isn't worth the trouble. And so are also less likely to post fanarts that have to do with couples.

 

Besides, from what I hear shipping in Japan is just done for the hell of it, and not based on any actual believe that the pairing could happen. That's why Kakashi X Iruka is the most popular among fangirls. They like visualizing the idea of them together, but are not stupid enough to actually think they would do so in actual canon. The same goes for their preference towards SS there.

I think the visual kei rock and japan's androgynous male idols can be partly to blame for the popularity of yaoi. Top rank popular male celebs (especially those from Johnny's Jr) in Japan tend to be beautiful and having feminine features (slender figure, pale skin, soft facial structures) that are quite attractive to the women there. Add in visual kei rock group where the members can be seen dressed in female garbs (and can really pull them off convincingly) especially those with the ikemen (beautiful male) structure really let the fangirls imagination ran wild. Moreover, coupled with most shonen manga and anime's portrayal of the spirit of comradeship and rivalries among their male characters really encouraged them to imagined the 'what-if' scenario if so and so fall in love and who would be the seme and uke in the relationship. These may probably lead to the popularity of yaoi.

 

Anyway, these are just my two cent regarding yaoi

I've been handling the manga really well for a long time now and just being patient with it now, enjoying as much of it as I can. But waiting can be BORING at times so I looked to NS pics and doujinshis to keep my head afloat and calm nerves. lol

But even that is now starting to wear itself out.....so I recently started to read NS fanfics to keep my sanity goin crazy lol...................................THAT MADE THINGS WORSE!!!!!! T_T I feel like Harold and Kumar turning into an intersection hoping to see White Burger but instead without looking took the highway to hell towards Racoon city from Resident Evil!!!!!! D:

I just finished reading all the current chapters of "the voice in the wind" NS fanfiction.......just to find out it's not even complete yet and me wanting FREAKIN MORE!!!!! T_T Lmbo

I second this.I lived there once and my circles were sort of supporting NaruSaku. These sort of people never go and roam the internet or social media. I know it's anecdotal, but I think by large the fanbase supports NaruSaku. 

 

I went there few months back (my kids are finally grown up enough for traveling), and I think the mood are still the same. NS fans are easily findable and can be spotted in the wild. We also got quite a number of NS fan services in other media, such as movie (Road to Ninja), games (I'm currently playing Naruto game in my spare time, there's a bonus NS mission after Sakura confession arc which I find pretty cute), promotional videos (e.g. uniclo ads), promotional posters (like this), toys, etc.

 

Anyways, that's just anecdotal evidence, so don't think too much about it. lol. Just enjoy the show.

 

As for the chapter, I'm really really confused about what's happening. Anyways, some SS moments are bound to happen, which is find by me. Honestly, since 631 I'm just waiting for NS to be confirmed... and 662 further solidify my beliefs. Kishi can do whatever drama in between. One thing for sure, SS has always been depicted negatively in part 2 of the manga and Kishi has been consistent in that part. I think for Sakura to get a closure, she'd need some 'acknowledgement' from Sasuke, so she can move on. Past chapters indicated that Sasuke doesn't care and would probably will, regardless if Sakura saved his life. Even Karin saved Sasuke's life, yet look at how he treated her.
