Sakura development, Sakura spotlight, Sakura giving Naruto CPR (always a plus), Sakura slicing Naruto up (yeah kinda freaked out at first but I'll take it), and some more CPR, and remembering Naruto's dream, all in all I'm happy.

 

BTW, we all know this is just to save Naruto, but come on, who else in this whole 663 chapter series is seen with their lips connected and as up close and personal as that.

Ah Kishi, you are soo devious. I felt sad to know that Naruto may not know sakura was his first kiss from a woman. But, dang Sakura pumping his heart manually was soo beautiful in a morbid way. Nothing says I love you like being a human pace maker...lovely in a sense. It was intimate on a scale that I feel would only be appropriate to this pairing. Also, suspicious foot....dun dun dun!

Cheesus people lighten up a little bit if the last two chapters doesn't point out toward NS becoming canon along with the previous and upcoming NaruSaku-Mina interaction than i don't know what to say anymore , i mean it's that much obvious or else why would Kishi make Karin to go to Sasuke and Sakura to go to Naruto ? Now i know we all wanted a more emotional NS scene with the Sakura finding out about Kurama being extracted from him but Gara stop that by telling Sakura that there is a way to save him so she focused on saving him , i mean look at how much determent she is to save him and to preserve his dream which i can say now without even a little doubt that his dream is also hers now to . Just look at that last page at Sakura holding his hearth and giving him life mouth to mouth , lips to lips (CPR) while at the same time she's looking at his dying face and saying that she will absolutely save him and that his dream is right in front of them , i don't know about you guys but that's some pretty intimate and powerful kitten right there that only lovers do , man that gave me so much feels not  the "CPR" but the whole picture of it and not to mention all of the symbolic's that their panels have in this and the previous chapter , really guys for me NS is 100% heading toward canon     ..

So, after enjoying the NS moment repeatedly and reading the discussion a lot, I'd like to finally post my thoughts.

Wow. That was truly amazing. I've been following Naruto for more than a decade now. Reading this chapter truly made me speechless. Thank you Kishi, you have no idea how long I've been waiting for this. I hope you'll keep going forward with NS on full charge and conclude it nicely.

 

The buildup was smartly done. Sakura doesn't have enough chakra reserve, so, it's a nice context to give the CPR. Yes, I fully realize it's a CPR. But it doesn't make the NaruSaku moment any less meaningful. It's Sakura's thoughts that really counts. The kissing part is a very huge bonus :) Kishi sensei arigatou gozaimasu.... The context here is that Sakura doing her best to save Naruto in a difficult condition while at the same time reiterating her promise that she don't want to see Naruto's dream gone when it's right in front of them. Kudos girl! You've maintained your emotion well to do the difficult task (surgery on a moving platform, keeping focus, etc) As KnS said earlier, Sakura absolutely rules!

 

As for the CPR, it's beautifully drawn and depicted. So much emotion and details. For those who think that it's not, please re-read it again and see the whole process of Sakura trying to save Naruto. Put it this way, in the shounen manga context, kissing is absolutely very rare. Granted, I'm not a manga expert, but most of the shounen manga that I read, from Astro Boy (yeah, I'm that old :) ), Yu Yu Hakusho, Slam Dunk, Dragon Ball, Full Metal Alchemist, GTO, etc. does not include any kissing. If anything, probably this "kiss" is the closest thing to an actual kiss we will get in the manga... 

 

A (public) kiss is still considered a taboo in Japanese culture, even though these days you see them quite often. If you've been following J-Dorama, you'll notice that out of the whole series, you'll mostly get one or two kissing scene (and we're talking about love drama here). There's a strict censorship and rules in Japan pertaining to displaying kiss in a media --please correct me if these rules have been relaxed.

 

Anyways, my point is that to put this kissing scene in shounen manga is a pretty bold move. I'd say Kishi is very smart to play the scene subtly by incorporating CPR idea. Make no mistake, there's probably little to no romantic vibe in the kiss alone. But if you see the whole thought process that Sakura is going through when she give the kiss of life, you can see that she's genuinely care for her team mate.

 

She's not saying "the world needs you", she's saying "I can't let that dream of yours gone, it's right in front of us". No other thoughts but them --Sakura and Naruto alone. No thoughts about Sasuke, no Hinata, no other thoughts but Naruto. She put her best to save Naruto not because the world needs him. She's saving him because she deeply care. She put Naruto in his highest regards and she share his dream. If that's not love, I don't know what is... This is not canon (yet), but it's really put a strong foundation of the romance plot going forward. The best part is Kishi is still playing by his rules. He created NH moment (615), and concluded it with NS (631, 663, etc). An SS moment will probably be arrive, but I'm quite sure he'll close it with NS moments afterward. Oh, and also, it's typical NS moment where either Naruto/Sakura is unconscious or unaware what Naruto/Sakura has done. If only Naruto/Sakura knew...

 

As few people here mentioned earlier. The subtle symbolism in this chapter is pretty strong as well. Combined with the previous chapter, you'll probably see where the "endorsed" pairing, going forward.

 

As for Karin, my respect for her is restored a bit. Mainly because it seems that she's gone full power to save Sasuke. I still don't respect SasuKarin though.. especially since Karin is so easily reverted back to fangirl mode. She need to at least slap Sasuke for treating her like crap. But if the Karin depicted in this chapter --a strong woman to save her love-- is what will be portrayed moving forward, then I guess I'll have my respect back...

 

All in all, a great chapter and really shows that Kishi is not against feminism. At one point I thought he was :) But this chapter shown us how strong a woman can be to save the man they love. Kudos and thank you Kishi.

Well in truth we need to break down sakuras moment in the chapter like this:

 

1. It was CPR, not wanting to be the downer here but its not a moment of kissing, its a necessity to keep him alive. I mean there is some joy in finally seeing naruto have mouth to mouth, but its not kissing unless he is awake and aware, CPR is not kissing, although I will say its good that this actually has more meaning than say the hand holding from 615. Naruto's stamina is gradually fading, he is still alive but Sakura is acting as his breath and pacing his heart to manually beat it. When they arrive to minato, either the transfer or sakuras remaining energy will be used to patch up the scar.

 

2. For this as a NS moment, there is one thing many NS fans and anti fans are doing, they either look to much at the action or too much at the dialouge. The true "moment" of this chapter was a combination most anti fans may be passing off, the moment is when sakura pauses to look at naruto, has a flashback of his dream, then we get that close up of her eye, etc, the real moment is sakura to naruto in this memory sequence and her saying to herself how she will absolutely save him, she wont give up, abandon, or doubt it, she will save him until she runs out of chakra if its like that. Well in truth her action of CPR and manual beating is actually saving her chakra for a bit so thats a good resourceful move on her part.

 

3. The NS event isnt over, this was just one part, this was the end of the reaction of sakura seeing naruto in this state and learning about the nine tails extraction, the rest is yet to come including how she will see naruto be saved and ultimately the recovery or comeback.

 

Really think of the events in these coming chapters with sakura tagging along as development for sakura in 3 short moments, the reaction to the state which just occurred, seeing the task for narutos recovery, and finally the moment naruto wakes up and her reaction to that. Many anti-NS fans are going on about we had our moment, but its not over, the other 2 are bound to happen, at least the reaction to the recovery.

 

4. Remember don't overblow it like NH fans did in 615, there is some satisfaction in mouth to mouth contact but its not romance right now, its a nessessity, if anything NS related did happen, just tell other fans this Its not about the CPR, its about the memories and thoughts sakura had towards narutos dream and not letting him die, thats the composition of the NS moment this time, not the CPR. Sakura is there though to help him as a medic but the real moment stuff is how she remembered his dreams and doesnt want to see them not happen, the real moment is her promising not to give up and to ensure naruto lives to fulfill his dream. In anycase, its also that this moment can be her moving more towards naruto, thats what part of the facial expressions are going on with.

 

5. It seems likely that Sakura and Minato will meet again, if they do, I just wonder if something like 631 or so could occur again. Possibly some input that Minato is happy someone like Sakura cares a lot for Naruto.

 

6. Finally our "moments" have a chance to occur until naruto is recovered, once he is recovered then the time with Sakura will end and we should go back to the battle phase. But even from the looks of next chapter, the person who came to Sasuke and how madara will go to kakashi, we may not have the Gaara, Naruto, Sakura scenes, but as long as the recovery has yet to happen, it has every chance of coming. Besides something as big as narutos recovery wont be done offscreen. I just cannot wait to see the face sakura makes at the recovery of him being okay.

 

Well this has been a good week, no classes due to snow, a great chapter, new information on UNSR, a hint with Kakashi and Madara next week, and best of all, tomarrow starts the Kakashi ANBU arc, I am excited for that. Man next week is going to be good,

Personally, Sakura seemed very unemotional even with Naruto being dead. Its far too early to say NS is canon yet but we really need to wait until Naruto is revived to see her reaction + Saku/mina meeting again.

 

From this chapter i really don't think her rection to Naruto's revival is going to be that significant. In all fairness she is yet to hear about Sasuke's condition too so...

All I can say at this point is let the NH fans have their 615 episode coming soon, perriot can overblow it like 166 if they wanted, NS still has more manga moments coming in a couple chapters (most likely given what I said) I mean its very reasonable to happen in those phases like that.

Well, i'm not going to be an opposition but i think it wasnt smartly done, Tsunade wanst run out of chakra but it's just kishi did an asspull and put Sakura to give medical attention to Naruto, in all honestity there was no buildup or foreshadowing because even the Kyuubi's removal was an asspull with an unexpected Jutsu from Madara.
There also no thoughts about Sakura wanting to do something meaningfull for Naruto on this arc we all thought it ended when she healed him during Juubi's rampaging.

Second the CPR moment was badly done, it lacked emotion and the only part that was nice was the ending i think that the fact that the whole Sakura's reviving Naruto was split in half ruined the moment for me.
It begin with Sakura worrying and Gaara giving answers and Sakura begining to use her hardcore medical skills then it shifts to Karin asspulling Kushina's jutsus from nowhere and then goes back to the medical treatment with Sakura giving CPR and the only meaningfull moment was the last when she thought about Naruto's dream.
I think that Kishi should not have split her moment in half, i believe it should had begin with Karin asspulling and then goes to Sakura's treatment and flashbacks.
I believe that the anime version will be way better than the manga.

Naah... Sasuke's completely on the other side where there are Minato and Kakashi. Meanwhile Sasuke's healing Naruto, Sasuke will already be taken care by the mysterious character (It could be Kabuto? After all he's still a medical ninja) and Karin, once she will be arrived there. Now I think that there's no chance anymore for Sakura to come learning even the Sasuke's conditions. Kishimoto has chosen her to be totally focused on Naruto.

Wow! Best chapter from Kishimoto in a long, long time! I love to see Sakura being completely true to her character, even if it is at the expense of poor Naruto. It was so touching. 

 

And yeah, can I just say, the cavalier way she treats his body is very...sensual....  She's not just healing him, at a distance just using her hands. She's in his space, getting about as close as she can without wearing him like Luke in a TaunTaun. It's a lovely, sensual closeness. (I don't want to say sexual, because that's not it. But Sakura is in every way the closest to him.)

 

I bet when he comes to the first thing he's going to say is that he's ticked he missed their first kiss!

 

Also, it was nice to see Sakura keeping it together despite her fear, and never giving up. And then saying his Hokage dream is now hers too...? Swoon!   But the one thing I thought while she was healing Naruto was look at how in command and in control Sakura is. It is just another way that she has surpassed Tsunade. When Tsunade was confronted with Dan's mortal injury, she unraveled. She lost all control at the moment and was emotionally devasted for years and years later. (Remember her deep fear of blood?) But here, Naruto is already dead. His heart has stopped. But Sakura is not giving up. Not in the slightest. She believes in him and she believes in herself. In that moment, it became really clear how much she's surpassed Tsunade.

 

Other thoughts....

 

I'm guessing the shadow is Kabuto. (It's too much to hope that Deidara has been brought back for a third round.)

 

Although I also think Jiraiya will be brought back at some point. It's really obvious that he is the only big character not ressurrected at this point. And I bet Kishimoto is saving him till the end.

 

So, Madara lacking the left eye. Does this mean that he's going to go after Kakashi to get it? Cue Obito's "Rescue Kakashi and Get Redeemed" arc.

 

And yeah, that Karin thing.... How convenient and very much like Kishimoto to give her the perfect power at the perfectly right time. Whatevs. Kishimoto passes out superpowers like bibs at a lobster bake. But I am surprised at him stepping up Karin's role in the story. I didn't see that coming this late in the game. (Actually, I had always thought Karin would end up with Suigetsu.)
