I'm actually agreeing with Codus. Just google "Naruto movie official poster" and you'll see all of them are vertical. Official posters are those shown outside of theaters with the opening date and other details like the casts. Its the same for western official movie posters. Google that too and you'll see.
Try bing. You'll see both formats for the official movie posters. (Google has seriously deteriorated lately in image search quality, while Bing has majorly improved. I know the past couple of months when I did image searches for various subjects it took pages and pages to find the right one on Google, where on Bing I found what I was looking for quickly, often the first image hits. It's made me about give up on google...)
And as for always having opening dates and casts on official movie posters, even in the west that's not true. You should be able to find some official ones for some of the Star Wars and Star Trek movies- that have only the image and movie title, and I know of one Star Trek one that didn't even have the title- just the image... And yes they were official- the Trek one without even the title was displayed in the movie theater when I went to see the film (
Star Trek 3). There are usually several versions of the official movie poster released- even in the west. You have the first version, designed to create and hold interest, that will have just an image and title. Closer to opening date you get the version you and Codus think are the "only official movie posters" with an opening date and in small print major cast and crew. Sometimes they'll make variant ones that are still official movie posters- done for
Star Trek III and
Empire Strikes Back for example.
In Japan movies are hyped even more than in the west, and the official movie poster image is slapped on those items... In other words, as I already said, the official movie poster image is used to promote the movie.
The first poster was a teaser poster- likely done by Kishimoto (style is a bit different from his usual- but the color style really looks like his.) and will likely eventually be an insert extra in the DVD release.... The image you are seeing now is more than likely the official one. Closer to the movie release date you'll get a version with the release date and cast and crew listing. If you go to the official movie website (I did today) the poster image we've seen today is plastered all over the pages.... So yeah, looks like is this is the official movie poster image....
