Vivacity and sexual appeal can earn them more revenue. That is what their motive is probably. A lifetime ago, Kishi was always so outspoken and protective of his female characters' dignity. Now? Well it's difficult to imagine what his genuine sentiments are like. You would assume that catering to a potential new market beyond the realms of shonen would factor in the interests of the female audience as well. So why isn't Sasuke wearing a short-cut leotard that accentuates his thighs, biceps, and well-toned chest? That would surely give incentive to the equally perverted female audience members to pay a glance at the new series being released in the Spring.

 

Fanservice was never a focal point of Naruto, yet when you look at the series now, you can see how they're trying to drive home the attractiveness of these characters. 

 

Yes, exactly. Sakura, more than any other, was very protected and respected. 

 

So I can just excuse away the bare midriff as a fashion thing. It's to make her more sexually attractive. And Ino? The skirt slung half off her waist and the curve of her hip showing? Seriously?!? It's awful looking!! 

 

Kishimoto and the new illustrators didn't make the women more powerful as they aged — just sexier. With the exception of Hinata, who got a boob reduction with her promotion to lead girl/Naruto's wife. It's so sexist, and has so completely destroyed everything I liked about this story. Just makes me want to throw up.

And I don't know how Hinata fans could be satisfied with anything — Hinata is a completely different person than she was in the manga. She's still a non-entity, but now she's a housewife instead of a shy shinobi. But at least before she had a purpose and a reason for evolving. Now all of those things are apparently gone. She isn't once shown as someone who is a leader of her clan, someone fulfilling Neji's legacy and someone brave enough to live Naruto's nindo and change the traditions of her clan. She's a housewife. She has no more story other than being a sweet quiet wifey.

 

And yeah, with NH looking all formal it could be seen as Naruto marrying into a tradition old clan. But the person he's married seems to have forgotten she was even in a clan to begin with!!

 

If it was more developed, I could see NH working, but it's like you said, Hinata isn't the same either in many ways, even if she's still a non-entity. Plus like you said, NO ONE in the ending of the series is happy. Not Naruto. Not Sasuke (but he's hardly EVER happy). Not Sakura. Not Ino. Not Shikamaru. Not Choji. NO ONE!! It's why I have issues with the ending, besides the contradictions of Naruto and how he is with Bolt, even if you think as a dad AND as a Hokage, he could be both and love it, since he loves his family, BUT he seems to take precedence as Hokage over his son, which isn't how Hiruzen or Minato were as Kage, since they may have been busy, but they still made family an important thing, especially since Hiruzen had lost his wife and had been estranged from Asuma for a time...

with karin disappearing, ss fans rubbing it in their tag and no answers from kishi. factoring all of that just makes me feel so bad for them. it's a damn shame how sk ended.

 

I feel the same. First the phone call from that one Karin fan and now that possible suicide attempt...

I didn't ship SK, but to me, this couple made more sense than SS.

Sorry to ruin the fun, but whatever "positive" news about NS from the publisher, the author or the studio is almost certainly to be fake. If anything, it's an attempt for us to "keep eye" on this series, creating yet another buzz for it to be alive and take advantage of us.
 
Let it go folks. Kishimoto doesn't care about NS fandom, neither should we care about his work. Complaining won't redeem anything, and we'll just waste our time.
 
If you like the concept of NS, I suppose it's alright if you want to cling for it as long as it makes you happy. Otherwise, don't put *any* hope or look forward for them or any revision to this story.
 
We haven't heard any single apology or sincere good will to "bid farewell nicely" to NS fandom coming from them. On the contrary, we're mocked, misled, and turned down. Every question about romance and canon pairing were answered by making retcon about why Naruto and Sakura were not good if they are together, to the point it breaks their character's integrity.
 
It will be even worse going forward. We could never see them the same way again. The last two chapters, the movie and the interviews gave us these

- Naruto would rather spent his time flirting with Sakura for this whole time just because he wanted to "win" against Sasuke. It was not a true and selfless love. Those moments they shared: bench scene, Zabusa fight, Chuunin exam, Gaara fight, Tsunade search arc, hospital scene, Promise of a Lifetime, Tenchi bridge, ramen feeding, Pein's arc, the hug, Land of Iron event, the CPR, heck even Road to Ninja and all those are lies and by-product of his rivalry with Sasuke. The worst part? Sasuke doesn't even care about Sakura, so really, nothing to "win" for. In the end he decided to go with someone else, and in the last chapter he was depicted as a father who neglected his son. All this happens after he learned about Minato and Kushina's sacrifice for his life. Let it sink and decide yourself what kind of person Naruto is...
 
- Sakura asked Sasuke if she could come with him after he "became good" in the last chapter. If that was all she care, she don't have to waste everybody's time to bring Sasuke back. She could just follow him instead and ignore her village who is still rebuilding after the war. Guess what she did all this time? She would rather take advantage of Naruto to bring Sasuke back. Ever since the POAL until the end of the series.  In the new movie, she was depicted as Hinata's love adviser --wherein Pein's arc, knowing that Hinata likes Naruto, she decided to hug him in front of her and everyone in the village. She didn't care that Hinata had just risked her life for Naruto. She would also rather lie in Land of Iron to both Naruto and Sasuke just so she could try to stab him from behind (with utter failure). During the fight with the villain in the war, all she could think was "Sasuke doesn't care", she did some last minute omg-heartwrenching-confession in front of someone who likes her (on his birthday some more). For those who think that she's very "loyal" to Sasuke. Guess what? when Sasuke is not present, she's flirting with Naruto (when they first met in 2nd part, ramen feeding, Tenchi bridge, the hug, Land of Iron confession, etc). If she were "loyal", would she ever think about doing all those? Oh, and speaking about Promise of a Lifetime? It brings no significance whatsoever --Sasuke never knew anything about it, he come back just because he was *defeated* by Naruto and lost his arm. After all those things Sasuke did for her (including leaving her by herself to take care of their child), she still choose him over anything else in this world. Let it sink and decide yourself what kind of person Sakura is...
 
- Hinata.. well, I'm not sure where to start since she's not that prominent in the past 15 years :) Anyways, where was she when Naruto was all alone and by himself? Did she ever once mentioned that she wanted to help Naruto reach his dream to become hokage? Did she ever believe in Naruto 100%? Remember how she reacted when Kiba fought Naruto? Remember the ointment she gave Naruto and what he did with that afterwards? He did that in front of her, by the way. Did she knew that Naruto likes Sakura, but disregard it nonetheless? Has she ever talked about it with Naruto? Did she really appreciate Naruto for who he is --someone who've lost his parents and grow up alone? Where was she when Sasuke (Naruto's closest friend and teammate) decided to leave the village? At least Neji was there as part of the team to bring him back. Where was she when Naruto was training hard to bring Sasuke back? Did she ever "interact" with Naruto's parents, be it in filler (Road to Ninja) or in canon (Minato edo-tensei)? Is she fine with Naruto ignoring her confession and continue flirting with Sakura? Is she really fine with Naruto joking about Sakura is her girlfriend when his dead father asked (in front of her, after the confession and after Naruto "hold her hand")? I mean, she was almost dead in Pein's arc while confessing to him. Heck, it took Neji's death for them to hold hands. Where was she when Naruto needed help the most and almost die? Run towards him only to be tripped by a rock and fell flat. Worse, rather than hoping Sakura could save him, she prayed to her dead cousin. I thought she and Sakura were BFF (according to new movie)? Even in the end of the series, she was not really depicted as a family member to Naruto. Where's the couple's interaction? She's just... not there for the most of the time... Moreover, if they're a happy couple, what's with the kids' attitude of looking for his parent's attention? Let it sink and decide yourself what kind of person Hinata is...
 
- Sasuke, well.. he could have saved everyone a lot of time if he just talk about it. In the end, that's what happened right? He just gave up after he come to a common understanding --and lost his arm, not sure if that's a prerequisite for him to bring down his ego. I'm not sure about you guys, but all the precedence and depiction of his ambition is nothing but a joke to me with the ending. Would you sympathize with him? Well, I wouldn't. All I see is a brat who talk big and chickened out after he lost a fight. Even when I tried to search for a deeper meaning in his characters, there's nothing much really. For all the establishment and build up he went through, it ended very sad. What was that statement about being hokage in the last minute about? It's just a big talk without essence coming from an arrogant prick. He didn't become hokage in the end right? Where did his idealism go after Naruto defeated him? He told them he wanted to atone his sins. If so, by doing what exactly? Jumping around the forest? Did he really understand that his village was just destroyed by Pein and is rebuilding from the war. In the end, did he really care about his friends? Did he really care about Sakura for that matter? He poked her forehead, but both of them never knew the significance of it. For Sakura, she might think that it was really Sasuke on that bench scene. For Sasuke, that gesture is what Itachi used to gave him. Was he actively participating in parenting his child? We always get a flashback from him about Itachi and his family, but in the end, he neglected his own child and family? Let it sink and decide yourself what kind of person Sasuke is...

 

Oh wow, I didn't know I could be very dark also.. ha ha... anyways, it's just for fun. Bottom line: don't waste your time on Kishimoto's plan for NS, whatever it is. They just want your attention and your money.
 
Going forward, this series is not worth your time and attention. Going forward, Naruto fandom for the new era or the new generation-whatever, will be filled with people idolizing the fictional characteristics I've ranted above. I'm not sure about you guys, but I'm sure I won't be part of it.

OMG what a fantastic post. You're points on the reality of their characters now is sooooooooo perfect. It really shows it's not just about the pairing. Kishimoto laid wasted to all the characters. You're right - going forward, everything after 698, is not the Naruto I knew. I'm with you - whatever comes in the future I won't be part of it!!

Full disclosure: I was a bit of a NH shipper during Part I. With that in mind, making NH work would have been SO FREAKING EASY. There were so many wasted panels on flashbacks, unnecessary side characters, and revealing the entire freaking history of the Uchiha clan. Why not take a handful of those and divert them towards developing Hinata's character. 

 

Part I is highlighted by the Hinata-Neji fight and the conversation on the training ground. We know that Hinata respects Naruto's nindo and wants to emulate it. Why not carry that throughout Part II? Why not show her striving to improve as a ninja and become worthy of leading her clan? Why not show her talking to members of her clan, working to do away with the cage bird seal? Show her talking to Naruto, show her expressing her desire to become a strong kunoichi and clan leader worthy of standing beside Naruto, not stalking him from behind?

 

See, it'd be easy.

 

Here's the problem: I just re-wrote Hinata as a character. All those actions are so contrary to what we see, and it's part of why her depiction in The Last is so egregious. To make NH and SS work, so many fundamental changes need to be made to the characters. And in the end, Naruto deserves a strong woman who wants to stand beside him and support his dream (Sakura), not someone who simply waits around for the magical wish fulfillment.

Had part two followed the development, I would likely be a NH shipper shipping NS on the side. (Because even if I did prefer NS even in part one, I always go with canon. Wellll, not always...I go with canon when it makes some amount of sense.)

I know how you feel, Narufan. I myself had to try to carry on the stuff you said about Hinata with my fanfic, since she is gonna try to be more confident, which is made more relevant in the three years from where it splinters from the canon (the Final Valley/Valley of the End battle between Naruto and Sasuke where Naruto defeated Sasuke even if it exhausted him too) and to where the ACTUAL story begins. But there's a lot to describe about it, so I won't do it here.

man the sk fandom has got it so bad. almost makes me want to cry for them.

 

From what I've seen, most in the SK fandom have moved on towards working on fanworks and just being grateful that Kishi ignored Karin rather than mess with her character further, though of course there are those who are taking it worse than others and I truly hope that they feel better soon.

 

Honestly as the months begin to go by, it does become clearer and clearer to me that this series just isn't worth crying over and being so emotionally invested in anymore.  I'll always remember and treasure the good memories and good times, and I probably won't ever think of the ending as anything more than a messy fail, but all good things do come to an end, it's just too bad that Naruto had such a spectacularly bad one but life does go on and I still believe there are good days ahead for NS (and SK) shippers as long as we let go of the emotional attachment to canon.

Apparently The naruto voice actress told kishi to shut up about when he talked about hinata and sakura in the jump festa interview. Wow JUST WOW. Never in my life have i ever seen a voice actress get angry at the creator of a series like this especially in the public audience.
