Yeah, it seems a lot more likely that naruto was about to say dattebayo before sakura head butted him. I don't know why people try so hard to take things out of context.

Because they are desperate. I try to avoid this topic but c'mon, a person that can't accept obvious hints such as parallels is someone that is trying its best to deny facts in favor of its personal opinions.

Sushi is right "datte" from what Naruto was saying is not "dattebayo", it is a colloquial form of "desu tte", meaning that Naruto meant that Sakura herself "more or less" said she was his girlfriend.

Edit. Sorry I didn't read everyone's post clearly. But Naruto was not saying dattebayo, or about to. So I'm sorry sushi and others ^^.

I think in a way based on what naruto said and his facial expression at the time shows that he accepted Sakura's confession in some way. I don't think it was Naruto's way to hang out sakura like that. Naruto knows that he loves Sakura so if he accepts her confession it technically means they would be dating right? To me that just proves naruto accepted sakura's confession and not Hinata's. which is somewhat sad for Hinata's part.

The part that gets me about the fact that he said "datte" is then why didnt sakura deny his claim. The sakura we knew especially if naruto said that's more or less what sakura said would immediately object to that claim. If it came from naruto himself answering it things would be a bit different because it is stated in naruto's view. But seeing as to how he quoted sakura and how she did not even deny that she herself said such a thing, does that mean they have accepted each other? Idk I'm confused about this one.

I'm starting to see reason why I dropped the viz dubbed volumes, seriously, is the viz translation really have Minato asking Naruto if he is sure Sakura is a girl? I mean seriously? If that is true, only proves the professional translators are just being incompetent, serously how hard is it to have the girlfriend statement? The western fandom really does not know as much as they think, being a NS fan in America may make you hated now, no one likes the I told you so argument when things like this were right in front all the time. I still remember the day 631 came out and people acted confused like Kishi suddenly smoked crack and they ended up claiming he had made a fanfiction out of it. Just no idea how these things even occur, seriously, just changing the girlfriend comment to Minato asking Naruto if sakura is a girl? If they end up confessing to each other, just what the hell are they going to translate that too? Experimenting? God sometimes I really hate my own culture for being too stagnant.

It's too early to speculate. Just wait and see.

 

I think Sakura's reaction is a nice contrast to part 1, where she would hit him if anyone implied to were romantically involved. Remember Konohamaru's comment? ; )

 

@megi, I'm not sure what to believe anymore. XD Oh what I would give to know Japanese, then I would probably understand the manga more. I'm glad we have someone here who knows the language.

 

Anyway..while the two interpretations means something differently, it still counts as much. So it's no biggie, a pro NS moment nonetheless.

Um, that's not what we are saying. Viz translated it normal as you can get. BUT there are people that still wants to acknowledge if she's a girl or not. Viz is not to be blamed, it's the denial.

In denial about 彼女？I think that is totally ridiculous as well. It's true that sometimes words can have two meanings but not in CONTEXT. There is no double meaning with either 彼女 or datte, but people choose whatever it to help their view point.

Actually Viz this time got the girlfriend part right, it was another scanlation (I believe it was Mangastream's) that wrote girlfriend like this: "girl-friend", that's why people think Naruto was confused about his father's question.

Though they totally twisted Kushina's last words during the girlfriend part. Personally I prefer Mangapanda because while they have grammar mistakes etc, their translations are very blunt and one of the most accurate to the raw. Mangastream add in what ever they like.

 

Remember when they called Hinata a "missus"? XD In the raw it was just "girl".

It's funny how contradicting it can sound because now that we are here, it's like bias translator are like, "Ah kitten, I really thought NH was going to be canon," and the editor is like "And I really thought you will be good. You're fired." But regardless, the "find someone like me," it's heavily significant, so just be glad that we got down. We are that good.

Kishimoto said Sakura wasn't lying. I am going take his word for it. Even I had my doubts before, but if he says the confession is sincere, it is sincere. At least the part about Naruto.

 

It wasn't even a question, so he was not forced to answer. He just found out many people disliked Sakura's confession, and responded that he tried to write her as honest and determined.
