I never really saw Skyfall lacking the 'classic Bond movie' characteristics. If anything, it's a return to those characteristics after being absent from Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace. Skyfall saw the return of a Q, gadgets (even if it's not really anything like that exploding pen or awesome watch), a gadget-car, it's even the famous DB5! We also have a flamboyant supervillain with a physical deformity with an equally flamboyant plan and, by the end:

We return to a male M and Moneypenny in that old office they used in the other James Bond films.

I've always thought, after watching Skyfall, Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace, and Skyfall were the origin stories that lead to this James Bond being similar to the older Bonds, though probably more grittier/serious/less extravagant than the other Bonds. After all, as Q said, "Were you expecting an exploding pen? We don't really go in for that anymore."

In a way, I totally agree. I think what they did is take the themes and motifs that have existed in Bond films, and made a more serious approach with them. For example, there is Q, but instead of making him just a quirky engineer, they used his youth to cause Bond to face his own aging (a major theme in the movie).

Now that you mention it, there were quite a lot of nods to old Bond stuff that were fun like when bond pulls out in his 1960s Aston Martin and they play the original version of the James Bond theme.

I guess my biggest complaint about a lot of the Bond movies was that during the movie, everything was just happening around Bond, not to him. And at the end of the movie he is the exact same guy and nothings changed. With Casino Royal, QofS, and Skyfall they are very much about James as a character and you get a sense that he has changed by the end.

Maybe that's the point. James Bond always is. He's a Constant. Everything else changes, but 007 will always be James Bond.
However, it is interesting to get some background onto Craig's Bond. Like you said, it gave him more depth other than the usual badass secret agent with gadgets and women.

Fair enough I should also say I'm speaking from a film enthusiast stand-point, so what I usually value in a movie is sometimes a lot different than most people. But I can still respect what others get out of movies

I just saw it yesterday too! I dug it, it was pretty funny. I was actually also impressed with the visuals. The lighting and smoke effects were particularly realistic.

Another thing I noticed (although I might be the only one since i'm into cinematography) were the variety of "lenses" used throughout the movie. Of course it is created on a computer and there aren't any lenses or cameras being used but there were a few scenes in the movie that were made to look like they were. For example, in the opening family hunting scene, at one point they are all running away from a predator and the shot looks like it was filmed from a large distance with a telephoto focal angle. Maybe you don't have any idea what I'm saying but suffice it to say, the movie featured several techniques that aren't often used in animation.

Considering the date I hesitated but it looks legit! cool man, I'm glad it's the director of the original (and wall-e which was great).

I am skeptical about Pixar's 2014 movie about dinosaurs...maybe its unfair of me but there are so many bad dinosaur movies! Among all these sequels lately, at least it will be a new "IP"

So this new was flushing around the net for an while and I thought it would be interesting to post it here. We are about to launch in phase 2 of the avengers saga with Iron man 3, with comfirmation of an captain america movie, Thor and Guardians of the galaxy before finally reaching the avengers 2, with an epic showdown against Thanos. Now what truly interested me was the news that an possible plot for phase 3 would be that by the end of the avengers 2, the earth heroes would come to realize that the Hulk is simply too dangerous and unstable to be kept around, and with the help of SHIELD, they would come up with an plan to shoot him into space and send him to an planet were he can't harm anyone. This would trigger the next solo Hulk movie covering the events of Planet Hulk, were the green beast starts as an gladiator and ends as the king of an entire planet. And thus the avengers 3 would culminate with the Hulk returning to earth to take revenge on those who betrayed him. The confirmation of an doctor strange movie and an ant man movie just improve this possibility, as they can be possible members of the Illuminati.

I would love to see that, as I personally find the planet Hulk and world war hulk storylines the best Hulk arcs ever. And it could make the Avengers the best trilogy ever.

Well i think Ragnarök will take place on Asgard where Loki seeks a powerful army forged of weapons made by Eitri the forger of Mjolnir leading up to Phase 3. So in a sense Hulk could be on the enemy side putting Tony Stark's Hulk Buster armor to good use. I don't think Hulk alone is powerful enough to be a phase 3 villain by himself when you got cosmic beings such as Thanos and Galactus.

Interesting ideas on the Avenger's phase 3. I've been excited for all these phase 2 movies, particularly Iron Man 3. Although not part of the avenger's thing, I'm also excited for The Wolverine this summer. X-Men was always my favorite and the Japan setting could be really cool.

A short trailer has been released but I loved the teaser poster they had for a long time that was Wolverine painted in sumi ink. Combine Wolverine, Japan, and art and I was going nuts

I saw the new Carrie Saturday and I wanted to address something on it that I found was interesting.

So, in terms of how good it was, this one holds up pretty well. There are a few flaws that hold it from being better than the 1976 film but it's still worth watching on its own right.

One thing I found interesting in the remake is that I think there was a greater effort for the audience to connect and maybe better understand why Carrie snaps and what she was going through.

I think the moment in this film that shows this is right after the prank is pulled.

In the 1976 version, Carrie basically immediately goes crazy right after the prank, if I remember right she doesn't even notice that Tommy was knocked out (or possibly died from) the bucket falling.

The 2013 version was a bit different. The prank happens, but Carrie does notice that Tommy basically appears to be dead. The filmmakers seemed to show Carrie mourning for him and then snapping. I found it to be an interesting bit to the movie, in a way, it added more to her level of vengeance, not just for herself, but for the person being nice to her.

Just something interesting I noticed, anyone else have thoughts who have seen it?
