Much in the same boat here. Though I mainly followed the anime and didn't read the manga until July...and I started the manga in the middle of the war arc.

I wasn't sure what to think of pairings until I came here and decided the arguments made a lot of sense, though.

Same here i didnt start the manga until the whole Obito reveal, however i did ship NS ever since it was shown in the beginning that naruto liked sakura

NH fans want Naruto to be as selfishly obsessed with Hinata as she is with him   Which is never gonna happen

I was initially under the impression than NS wasn't going to happen because when I was watching the anime with my brother Hinata was introduced to me as "someone who has a crush on Naruto". And though it was obvious Naruto was interested in Sakura (this was among the first scenes I saw with Naruto in it*), so far as I knew at the time she didn't seem interested.

So when I went to the first series and watched from the beginning, I guess I was leaning towards NH. But as things went on, I was like "Well, I guess NH is cute, but I really am getting to prefer NS..."

 

Now that I know a lot more about the story and characters, I don't think NH was ever really intended.

Yeah well i guess i just had a softspot for the tsundere type female and i thought their interaction was really cute. But i didnt get really serious about it until after the time skip when shippuden started

I guess I generally tend to be prefer canon--which is why since I believed NH to be canon at first I initially shipped that.

But since I began shipping NS before I really thought it had a chance I guess it was one of those "your ship chooses you" things. Score that it has more than a chance now

If I hadn't gotten sick I met have never read this manga. But like I said I want Naruto and Sakura to end up together for the sole reason of that is what makes the most sense. Plus I genuinely like both characters.

I started as NH fan, but I understood very fast it never stood a chance. The little bits that made me think it could have been a possibility were anime filler. When you read the manga it's very clear she's just a weird girl he didn't like much, though he latter started to respect her a little. The relationships is all about prop talks.

The NH fandom was really what turned me off from the pairing, seeing those people so sure to be right and acting mean to alternative ships. You have no idea the kitten us SasuHinaers got before Karin was introduced.

What really nails the coffin is that Hinata's introduction in shippuden ended up with a fainting, which cemented nothing good could come out of their casual interactions. Meanwhile Sakura were acting all flirty with him at the begining of shippuden and Yamato started to hint at NaruSaku too.

When the Kushina talk came it just confirmed what I already knew, the "weird" girl Hinata never was a serious competition to Sakura.

I disagree. How many times exactly has Sakura been hurt around him? Not many. He got desperate as kitten when he saw Gaada about to kill her. He flipped out that time she was about to fall on the way to Orochimaru, and then he was really angry at Sasuke after Sasuke tried to kill her at the bridge. Those are the only times I can remember that he's been around when she was hurt, and all of those times he reacted pretty strongly.

Not strong enough for some, unfortunately. Or... better to say, that it was strong, but many believe that he would have reacted the same way if it were Hinata or Kakashi in Sakura's place. Can you remember a moment when he really contemplated the fact that he could lose Sakura in his Sasuke quest?

That quote from the naruto movie site is from chapter 297, the line Yamato said right before the famous "I can tell just by looking at you, the truth is, you-"

The only time he contemplated her dying to my knowledge is the Gaara deal. During the Sasuke chase, she was never in any real danger that he was unable to prevent, thus why he never contemplated it. The closest we came was the bridge when he saved Sakura from Sasuke, and he looked absolutely livid.

There is no doubt in my mind that he would react much worse if Sakura was in any real danger that he couldn't prevent, as he did when she charged Madara (which I forgot about in my previous post)

I wonder if it had been Sakura who died suring Pain's attack and not Kakashi, would he have reacted the same way?

Hinata didn't even die in front of him (she was just injured), and he went kyubi on the culprit. We have such an explosive reaction to Hinata's misfortune (I know that in reality it was a cumulative effect), but not to Sakura's many-many situations of near-death experience. That creates a certain image for people who expect a stronger outburst from someone who's about to lose his "love interest".

I think he would really be mad and sad.Then he'd go 8 tails suddenly.Hinata is his comrade but Sakura is more precious so it would be different.
