Well, defeat mean friendship is a another name for tnj and it's staple trope in story, especially shonen & shoujo.
It will be need if the mc is a pacifier and want to spread some good guy ideology.
But it would limiting naruto fight to the point he doesn't fight orochimaru and danzo since they don't have similiarity aka parallel with naruto. The same can't be said with sasuke since he can fight anyone anywhere.
No wonder people thought he's the mc.
One of the Kishi tnj writing problem is the lack of consequence.
I am aware of it but Naruto does it in a unbelievable way.

I'm not sure what the spoilers have mentioned, but given Kubo's usual pacing it'll be hard then him to do everything in 16-20 pages so I'll believe there is another chapter left for us.
I've got a couple telling me there is suppose to be some kinda announcement when Chapter 686 comes out, and I wonder... could that mean the return of the anime? or maybe an extended chapter like idk 30-40 pages?

According leaks she is becoming a damn Captain. Rukia is becoming a captain also my predictions is that Ichigo stays in the soul society and becomes the First Lt. to Rukia while Isida and the rest stay in the human world to live out their lives.
It makes sense and Isida and someone has a baby. Orihime opens a bakery and sales things to both the Soul society people that come to earth and her friends. It's a popular meeting spot for the Qunicies to talk to the leaders of the Soul Society since she helped end the war and is a friend of Isida. She helps out by giving them a back room to talk things over and some free food too.
. While Chad comes back and helps out every now again in the soul society.
