Saw a comment on facebook today along the lines of "if this man [Kishimoto] doesn't put Naruto with Hinata, I'll kill him". I doubt it's a serious comment, but good grief.

If NH an SS becomes what would become of NS's development?
The development of NaruSaku would have to be completely reinterpreted in order to fit the new result.
In other words the following assumptions must be made:
Naruto only had a crush on Sakura which he grew out of.
Naruto loved Sakura like a sister.
Sakura hugged Naruto in a friendly way.
The CPR was strictly medical and has no other implications whatsoever.
Yamato meant a platonic sort of love.
Sakura was a complete liar during her confession.
Naruto hides his feelings for Sakura because...... Well.... Damn, I don't there's a way to twist that one into not being romantic.
So basically there would be some very far fetched explanations for the events throughout the course of the manga and even if you skew things beyond recognition you still end up with plot holes.

I constantly see people saying they're going to go to Kishi and beat the s**t out of him, if he doesn't make the story go their way. It's pretty dumb...

Why do people NOT ship these two? I just don't get it.
Probably cause they hate Sakura. When she's probably the most developed female character in the whole show.
I respect Hinata, but Sakura deserves some too.

Just shows that their immature and they take the manga way too serious.

I hope so. If that's someone around my age, I'm going to lose a little more hope in humanity.

Everyone would insist that they won because "my ship makes more sense than your's!"

@NaruSaku4Life43g:
I actually think I could deal with an open ending or an ambiguous one. That way the fans can take what they want from it, make their own headcanon, turn it into fanfics, and be satisfied with that. When I think of an open ending, to me it's like everyone wins and everyone loses.
I don't particularly want a open ending nor does it make a lot of sense with all the stressing on Kushina's line, but it's better than NaruHina or SasuSaku happening.

I do not want some comedy that probably we won't like and make fun our romance sub plot example:
Karin,Ino, Sakura fighting over Sasuke like fan girls then there it goes the last dignity of Sakura.

I get what you are saying RomanceGirl but Open ending would leave majority of fans feeling disappointed and unsatisfied. One also needs to take into consideration the way Kishimoto has played with the pairings.
Even though its Shonen and a focus on romance should not really be expected, Kishi has given far too many panels in his story to the romance subplot. He's teased and trolled all the pairings almost to the point of frustration for its fans.
Its only natural that fans feel Kishi has to give a conclusion to all this mess. If he doesn't it would be a cop-out of the highest order.

NH/SS? Depends on who you ask. Nothing's changed development wise.

@Konan-sama:
Nah, I wasn't trying to say NaruHina or SasuSaku is a possibility. And I can see from a story standpoint it wouldn't make much sense because Naruto's the main character so should get the heroine returning his feelings. But the problem with 693 is that it's very debatable Sakura's confession. We're still not quite sure that chapter didn't revert everything back to the status quo. We need more information.
Personally, I think NaruSaku is still going strong. A chapter like that, especially since it probably will later kill SS, doesn't mean Sakura doesn't have feelings or loves Naruto. 693 is probably our 'dark' point to make us think NS won't happen only for it to be canon. But I would like information on Sakura's feelings anyway.
@ns.Believe.It:
That's true. Kishimoto had made all of us pairing fans go through the ringer these past few years. Many of us would feel cheated by an open ending. I actually think, if Kishimoto is that determined to have no pairings happened, it should have the pairing status ambiguous. Fans could still take what they want from it and interpret it the way they want, but the problem with open endings is that the pairing war will take even longer to end.
I'm not saying I want an open ending. I just know that if there was, I would try to look at it more optimistically since there's fanfics and none of your notps happened either. I would hope more people would feel that way, but I understand if they wouldn't.
I really don't want an open ending. I wouldn't be happy, but I would be "okay".

Like I said before... I'd probably be a bit relieved, if the series ended with no pairings. I actually expected it. NaruSaku just happened to be the pairing I noticed and liked, but I was always open to the idea of any ending. Whether it ends open-ended, or with NaruSaku, or with NaruHina, or with SasuNaru... Just expect everything.
I think if the series ends without pairings though, it would prevent a LOT of fanbase damage. No matter how much sense NaruSaku makes, you have to admit it would probably be safer to be open-ended... Of course that's my opinion.
But then he shouldnt have teased the romance at this level in the first place if he wanted to avoid fanbase damage
