She only has place there since that's all her character is about. Don't expect her to simply be ignored. You'll be disappointed if you do.

 

The point -- for me, anyway -- is that I do not fear Hinata in the slightest.  I don't feel the need to fret or dread the ending because she might be shown in it.  I expect her to have panel time in the conclusion, just as many of the other characters will.

 

But even if Naruto speaks to her, and her character is given some kind of closure, that's what it will be -- closure.  It is far too late for Hinata to be a serious threat to NS.

For me, not that much. I'm accustomed to piss poor endings, as it's the most common thing in anime and mangas is retarded unsatisfying ends. Though I would feel frustrated we got through that much drama for ,nothing at all.

Based on manga evidence and looking at it from an un-biased point of view, I can see where James is coming from.

 

I am gonna split parts of this post into spoilers.

 

Sasuke and Naruto's characters

Sasuke and Naruto's characters have remained somewhat consistent from beginning to end.

 

Naruto's determination, never giving up and having romantic feelings for Sakura has been a part of his character since day 1 and till now he hasn't shown any signs of changing them.

 

Sasuke's character has always been the lone-wolf type from chapter 3 and whoever he was in the past really doesn't matter right now as the character we have seen in the present is the Sasuke we know.

 

Both Naruto and Sasuke have traits that must never be questioned, so if Kishimoto intended for Sasuke to somehow develop feelings for Sakura, then these feelings would not be left for us to analyse, pick apart and endlessly speculate on whether he harbors any feelings for any girl he's interacted with. So for Kishimoto to turn around and suddenly make it so he loves Sakura, despite the fact that he's clearly stated he's not interested in her romantically and only Naruto and Itachi have been the close people in his life, seems silly. Sasuke is a character that has always been open about himself, so why hide such a major thing like a love interest?

 

Sakura

Then we have Sakura, who liking Sasuke romantically is part of her character, but unlike someone like say Hinata and maybe Karin, we do not know the full details of why she holds those feelings, nor has there been any attempt made by Sakura to talk about them. Hinata has actual, genuine reasons for falling for Naruto, and Naruto the same for Sakura. Karin...well, she sort of has her own reasons for liking Sasuke and has spent the most time with him out of all the girls.

 

While liking Sakura is part of her character, this has been a part that has had negative impact on her, nor has any love she held for Sasuke been something that has been able to influence Sasuke's way of thinking. This was confirmed by Kishimoto in 694 where Sasuke said when he lost Itachi, he was alone until Naruto came into his life, which is why he wants to kill him. He wants to kill the people he is close to so they don't influence/interfere with his plans, and if he was even close to Sakura or if her confessions affected him in anyway, then he would have killed her as well. 694 gave us insight into Sasuke's character and now we know who he is close to and who he doesn't care about on a deep level.

 

Placing her under a violent genjutsu was not an act of mercy. It was a cruel and unnecessary step to stop her getting in the way of their battle. There are other genjutsu he could have used to stop her from fighting, but he chose to make it look like he killed her by crushing her heart.

 

Sakura has been shown to be able to change her opinions of people as the story progresses. She goes from disliking Naruto to caring for his well-being. There has also been hints that she might be developing romantic feelings for him. Sasuke leaving the village was necessary for her growth and relationship with Naruto because by sharing a goal, they grew closer to each other. Naruto's feelings remained unchanged, while Sakura's feelings grew which showed signs of maybe loving Naruto.

 

Missed opportunities

There has been plenty of opportunities to build the relationships between Naruto and Hinata and Sasuke and Sakura, yet through each time Kishimoto opted to instead develop the NaruSaku relationship, which pretty much dominated early part 2 till Pain's arc.

 

Reunion with Sasuke = Anti SasuSaku

Kage Summit = Anti SasuSaku

War Arc = Anti SasuSaku all throughout

 

Kishimoto has been carefully deconstructing Sakura's romantic attachment towards Sasuke, and changing the nature of it to something of comradeship. This was pointed out by Kakashi when they reunited. Kishimoto had perfect scenarios for Sasuke to show atleast some care towards Sakura, but with all 3 reunions, it all ended up doing damage to the pairing. Likewise, Part 1 was the perfect time for Kishimoto to have Naruto stop liking Sakura romantically and possibly develop romantic feelings for Hinata, yet instead of having her get kidnapped by Gaara, he had it happen to Sakura and the famous "something to protect line" came. This cemented Naruto's attraction to Sakura sticking with him till the end. He also had a chance to have Naruto address Hinata's confession, or even have Hinata run and hug Naruto with Sakura looking into the distance. Instead of that happening, Sakura was the one to hug him, because she is his love interest, not Hinata.

 

Parallels and consistency

Parallels are also used to a lot in the series. Find me one parallel of SasuSaku / NaruHina where they ended up together and played happy families. KakaRin is the only parallel to SasuSaku but even that pairing wasn't as negative as SasuSaku was even though Rin ended up dying. Atleast Kakashi was regretful for what happened. I can not find any parallel in part 2 where characters like Naruto and Hinata got together, because that's not what Kishimoto intended. Creating Kushina and showing aspect of her characters similar to Sakura was all the indication people needed to know what endgame pairing Kishimoto might be planning. He also had Naruto's father meet Sakura and make the direct comparison between her and Kushina. Kishimoto also placed Sakura at Narutos darkest hour.

 

Now, if Kishimoto intended for NaruHina to happen, explain the all the missed opportunities or why Kushina told Naruto to find a woman like her, why Minato made the comparison and why was it shown that Hinata was not intended to be at his side while he was dying?

 

Simple, because that's not what Kishimoto intended. Throughout the manga, he has been consistent with the relationships of all the main characters. Hinata's character exists to cause pairing drama and keep the base interested in who Naruto might end up with. Throughout the manga he threw scraps at opposing pairings in an attempt to keep them interested and guessing on how things would develop, but would quickly revert back to developing the main couple in the series. Sakura and Hinata's developments are one-sided, NaruSaku isn't.

 

What is happening right now is classic NaruSaku fear and anxiety taking over and making everyone doubt whether Kishimoto will pull a fast one and make SS and NH the canon pairing out of the blue, and I can understand that way of thinking. There are 5 chapters left and he could just as easily erase everything and have it all happen off-screen. I can understand because sometimes I feel like that as well

 

But here is something to consider.... the buildup hasn't been there and the parallels aren't there to support it. Naruto and Sasuke suddenly changing who they're attracted to, despite showing no signs of them being attracted to either girls would be straight out of the worst fanfiction you can read, and while Kishimoto has made a complete mess of romantic subplot, he has remained largely consistent with what Naruto and Sasuke feels towards the girls, and Sakura has been shown to change her view of people.

 

It's ending soon, and just two chapters ago Sakura seemed like she confessed to Sasuke again in a desperate attempt to keep him from destroying himself. Like the previous confession, she did not even tell him what she liked about him. The chapter was damaging to NaruSaku, I get it, but she NEEDED that vicious genjutsu if she is to ever move on from Sasuke. The set up with Kakashi is the perfect time for her to admit how she really feels about the two boys, who she will stick by and what she'll do moving forward. It'll be a good closure to her feelings towards Sasuke.

 

Meanwhile, The Last Sasuke does not look like a person that is residing in Konoha. He looks like a wanderer, something who is forging his own path, but not a path led by destruction. He looks kinda bad, but not really.

 

Hinata's dream in the IT will also be a closure to her character. She got to spend time with Naruto as lovers even though it's a dream, but will accept that he will most likely not return her feelings. She will give up on chasing him (as was hinted before) and become strong so they can stand as equals in battle, but her desire to be with him romantically will be dropped. That would be a good closure to her character.

 

Naruto saving Sasuke, gaining acknowledgement and eventually becoming Hokage will be good closure to his character. Getting together with Sakura will mean he succeeded where his teacher and Obito failed, it will fulfill Kushina's wish to find a person like her, and he would truly accomplish all of his goals. He is also the main character, so his pairing takes priority over the others.

 

Keep all of this in mind going forward. Personally, I only see Sakura choosing to be with Naruto happening in the manga, with Naruto's confession happening near to the end of The Last. Hinata's resolution will happen in the last chapter.

 

That is, of course, assuming Kishimoto still give a crap about all of this. Personally, it's not Naruto if he's not in love with Sakura.

 

Of course, predictably, NaruSaku fear and anxiety has gotten me as well and is a nagging pain in the back of my head despite all the crap I've just written. Meanwhile SasuSaku and NaruHina are still really confident their ships are endgame. Would I have liked for everything to be resolved in the manga? Yeah, but personally I don't think that'll happen. The endgame comes in The Last, while massive hints will be dropped in the last chapter.

Manga is ending. I guess it's like when a video game is about to release. I remember being like so hyped for Halo 3 and when it's like a week left, I get chills to think it's ending and the game that I hyped about is almost here. Here, well, it's more about saying goodbye. I mean sure it may come back like DBZ (like maybe 5 years later) but the idea of reading it every week is about to end. That is true, but one thing about I kept in mind about Halo 3 was the ending. You knew the minute Chief and Cortana survived Halo's activation that we were gonna get a continuation. People were in denial when I said that like "Nah the series is done, end of story." and then jump 5 years later to 2012 and I was like "Yeah about the series being done hahaha". Who knows we may get a continuation of Naruto in the future similar to what happening with The Halo Games (for Manga wise), don't get your hopes up.  (A little off topic, but Halo 5: Guardian's is the dubbed as the darkest entry in the series right?).

 

 

So again hearing the news that Naruto's ending is leaving the same impact on me that Halo 3 had before I got the ending.

Yeah, basically this. Kishimoto hasn't always made the greatest decisions in writing, but he has tried to make his characters consistent with only Sakura making any radical change at all. Every other character has pretty much stayed the same with only minor differences or minor tweaks to their views. Since we are only 5 chapters until the end plus the movie, it would be near impossible to make SS and NH believable at this point without pulling some major heel turns and asspulls. Even by Kishimoto's own rules and trades of writing, it would literally be the worst thing he ever does at this point. Not because he would piss some fandoms off or whatever, but rather because it would betray the very foundation that these characters stood on; Naruto and Sasuke especially. The very foundation he established so many time in this manga up to this point...Hell, those foundations have remained the same since last chapter.

This is why I am not worried anymore. I can't be worried because I don't think Kishimoto would ruin his own story like that just to suit a fanbase.

Well, to be fair they never said it was the last game or the final story. They said you were finishing the fight, which we did. Master Chief's fight against the Covenant had ended and humanity survived to fight another day.

We may get a continuation of Naruto or we might not. I remember Kishimoto wanting to do a Minato Gaiden which I would love to see. Even know we know how it ends, it would be nice to see how life around Minato played out.
