Teeeeechnically the U.S is a Democratic REPUBLIC. ( its where they coined the terms republican and Democrat i imagine...) Republic is also in the pledge of allegiance.
Anyways, the genius' that they were Founding fathers recognized that a Democracy could become mob rule, which is just as much a threat to liberty as the rule of a sole king. ( these guys were very, very big on having as little government interfering with people as possible.) The frame work was designed to to protect people from unchecked and possibly unconstitutional popular demand. But at the end of the day, the representatives are held accountable for what they did, or failed to do
I mean, just last year or so, a whole SLEW of republicans/democrats lost seats to OTHER republican's because they failed to do their responsibility to the people. Which was represent them.
*Feels very nitpicky, probably 'cause she's at uni and bored and sitting in a lecture of history of international relations*
Democracy is meant as a system of values in what I wrote before, democracy can be in the form of a republic - with different flavours like parliamentary, presidential or semi-presidential republic, it can also be either federal or unitary - or a monarchy.
To be uber-unberable and technical and a student of 'Liceo Classico' I must say that Republic also comes from latin Res Publica meaning the public affair, but Res is nominative singular Latin fora noun intends a concrete 'thing'; and this is something Ancient Romans had long before the coming of the classical Roman Empire, for example when Julius Caesar was alive Rome was a Republic, same thing for when Rome destroyed Carthago. And that's also why Rome's motto has always been SPQR Senatus Popolusque Romanus, the Senate and the People of Rome.
And YEEEPPPPSSSSS HUN. You are also correct in the second part of your message and the technical term for what you said is Tyranny of the Majority and that's a very much important characteristic and peculiarity in the US' constitution, even if some critics say it opens the way for the opposite process, the tyranny of the minority.
I kind of feel like a professor, but this thing is incredibly useful to remember and not forget things I have studied in comparative constitutional law and political science.
PS. I'm happily waiting for your visit hun. IMAGINE THE MISCHIEF. IMAGINE IT

M'love! You overcame the hurdle of the quater-of-century! Congrats hugs and kisses :**** (I'm not that much younger than you, so thread carefully on the 'old' thing)
I protest. I am a gracious plenty. Not simply tall.
Psssst. Thank you for that! We were kind of getting tired of being insulted for being horrid xenophobes here in Italy.
250?! That's...woah! I don't think they are enough for a big family's food shopping. Figure that for renting a (probably kitten) room here in rome sometimes they ask even up to 500 per month.
Oh yeah! It's the European football that you guys play
Uhhmmm....well more or less. Accurate actually. India and Pakistan, two countries, both were a mess after the partition. The situations were far worse than what they are now. The country was torn not just physically but emotionally as well, the latter being more hazardous. According to what my grandma told me, the decade after the independence just might be the worse India ever had! Not to mention, China! So yeah, you're right when you say, the less stable a country, larger the constitution.
State's constitution I believe is 'For the people and of the people'. That's what draft said I guess. But then again, it goes on to prove your point. Damn! You almost nailed it with that one killer line That summed everything up. Italy's constitution wasn't re-drafted after Facism? Mind me asking one question? It's not pro-Italy I am afraid Damn, Lys! You always give me something to binge on
Exactly! The founding principles of Democracy sure seem to be pro-people but I guess it's not such a good decision to give all the power in the hands of masses On it! I'd like to know more about this. Thanks
;DDDD
Our constitution, the one we have now, the rigid one, was made after the end of Fascism, in 1947 it was drafted and became effective on the 1st of January 1948. Before we had a King-granted flexible constitution that's called Statuto Albertino.
Italy's mess comes mainly from roadblocks to 'power' that were practically put everywhere to avoid a second coming of an authoritarian regime. But this brought a kitten-load of dispersion of power, and now taking any important decision is like pulling teeth.
Actually many studies demonstrate that democracy works best with small countries - relative to density and population - and that's why ancient greeks of Athens worked very very well with democracy (which , to still continue being a student of Liceo Classico, comes from δῆμος (dêmos) "people" and κράτος (krátos) "power" or "rule". There's also the cyclical theory of political evolution, Anacyclosis, illustrated by Polybius if you are interesting in the topic.)

But they were all of them deceived, for another canon was made. In the land of Japan, in the fires of Studio Pierrot, the dark Lord Kishimoto forged in secret a master canon, to control all others, and into this canon, he poured his cruelty, his malice, and his will to dominate all life. One canon to rule them all.
