the author didn't care anymore about his work. Just see the opening flashbacks in the movie, where a pre-academy Naruto uses Kage bunshin to defend his princess from bullies. LOL He even did claim to have made a lot of corrections in the original script.

When I look at what's happened to the Naruto franchise lately, I cannot help but come to the conclusion that our fandom has, in a indirect way, obtained victory.

Think about it for a second--

The manga ending was so bad that it lost out to Tokyo Ghoul which, quite frankly is nowhere near as popular as Naruto.

The NH love movie was so bad that its en route to end up as the worst Naruto movie ever. When you consider the fact that this list has movies like Blood Prison, its truly an embarrassment. As if that's not bad enough, its even gaining a reputation of being a love story worse than Twilight. It doesn't get worse than that !

Fan reception is spectacularly bad to the point where some feel regret that they ever became fans of this series. Kishimoto's reputation looks to be shot to pieces.

To make things worse, Kishimoto has come out and announced that NH happened due to reasons like sympathy and popularity rather than sense and logic. Quite telling when the mangaka mumbles '' I felt pity for that character so I let her have what she wanted '', '' This character is more popular than the actual Heroine so I was forced to cater to her fans wishes''.

NH fans can celebrate but Kishimoto couldn't have made it more obvious that their pairing won only because he felt it was the better choice from a business point of view.

Too bad Kishi, looks like you miscalculated !

What's interesting is that a number of other websites have been assigning ratings as high as 3.7 stars and complimenting the ending for being wonderfully executed. In light of all the contradictory information, I don't know what to believe in regards to reception and opinion. On one hand, we have the outcries of various fans on Tumblr and YJ and presumed ex-NHers/SSers who came to resent the ending for one reason or another. But on the other, this ending has been ranked at #2 for being one of the greatest manga endings recently, the film continues to garner large amounts of revenue at the theatre, and people on other review sites beyond YJ have been generally favourable towards the movie.

It's difficult to say which opinion is truly in the majority here.

Nothing new? Too lazy to read every page, so I just read the first and last one, lol.

So people are also filling the NS tag with smut.

No. Characters' tag in general is full of smut.

I think it was chatte, she said she worked in a similar kind of Business tho ... (but I'm not sure ... It was some time ago).

But I mean, really ... REALLY.
If he was not forced, he was probably manipulated .... in a lot of earlier interviews he sounded like he didn't has a big plan at all - so others might did the work for him?

It was Ramen.

Despite all of our chest-beating and self-assurances that Kishi's original plan involved following through with NS (and probably SK, by extension), we've never received any definitive word on the preceding events behind scenes that lead to him writing the ending like this. Kishi once claimed that only one pairing would be reciprocated, that Naruto's child would be called Shinachiku, and that Sakura was speaking truthfully when confessing to Naruto. But do we know if these were his honest intentions or if he was just giving lip service to the interviewer for the readers to discuss and hype up his manga even further? Who can say.

Where was it stated that Kishi was coerced into implementing Kaguya into the villain role?

Personally, I'd rather believe his old interviews  than these ones ! He keeps contradicting himself and maybe lying, and that plus the whole manga make me believe he really didn't want to end it like this. Now, we'll never know what happened, or what (who?) changed his mind !

About the question, I heard that quite a long time ago, I can't even remember if it was before or after the manga ending, but I'm sure it was stated that they pushed him to continue his manga (maybe so the manga would end a little time before the movie release?) ... don't know whether it was true or not  :pinch: ... imo, it was surely some fans who deduced that by reading the kaguya arc chapters

But they were all of them deceived, for another canon was made. In the land of Japan, in the fires of Studio Pierrot, the dark Lord Kishimoto forged in secret a master canon, to control all others, and into this canon, he poured his cruelty, his malice, and his will to dominate all life. One canon to rule them all.

TG could be one of those stories where the local population adores it but it's discarded and not looked at with affectionate consideration by readers in other countries. Mind you, I don't know anything about TG, but the fact that Naruto's ending landed itself on a top ten most favourable is pretty damning.

Annoyingly Jump Festa will be focusing on Naruto too much, because of recent developments.

How do you know they are neutrals? Or only casuals?

The ending was bad ( not even talking about the pairings here) , it was terribly underwhelming

look here, these are true neutrals

spoiler

The idea in that scene was supposed to be: "Hey, stop doing this to get my attention - after all, the whole village is your family, not just me."

But this scene alone ruins the entire series for me.

The whole point of the early series was how Naruto tried to deal with his loneliness - they even made that quite explicit later on in shippuden. For Naruto, it was clearly *not* the case that the entire village could be thought of as family for him. His entire motivation for becoming Hokage in the first place was to be acknowledged by the village, so that he could be accepted and maybe eventually not feel alone anymore. This is also the entire basis for his relationships with Sasuke and Sakura.

But in this epilogue scene, when Naruto's son acts out in exactly the same way Naruto did as a child, implying that he feels the same loneliness and that his relationships with others in the village aren't proper substitutes for the love of his father, Naruto just coldly chastizes him and just says "you'll understand someday" - as if that was going to address the problem. Obviously, simply having a village of neighbors isn't enough to ensure that Naruto's son is going to make meaningful connections - it's not that simple. Naruto should know this better than anyone.

Honestly, the ending should have been that Naruto was elected as Hokage but turned down the position, realizing that it was only going to get in the way of cultivating the sorts of relationships with his friends and family that might help overcome the loneliness he had felt all his life.

Why does he need to be Hokage anyway? Just so there would be a reason for him to hang out with characters from other villages for a scene? Just so he could 'carry on tradition'? If war is over, why is society still organized into ninja-states that are fueled by military action? Why is there even still a Hokage position?

That brings me to another gripe; I've never understood Kishimoto's fetishism of posterity and tradition. "The next generation will fix everything our generation couldn't fix" seems to be the sentiment. Except clearly that hasn't happened with any generation touched on in the series, including Naruto's apparently. The scene with Naruto chastising his son shows exactly why this is the case. Naruto's son finds himself suffering from the same loneliness Naruto himself once did, and Naruto's duties to convention, to 'tradition', to institutions, only pull him away from his son and ensure that that loneliness remains in the world.

So basically, the entire series thematically annihilated itself in the epilogue - unless it only meant to convey a harsh message that loneliness is here to stay as long as people continue to delude themselves into thinking things like social duties and traditions are equally or more important than interpersonal relationships (in which case, it is both ingenious and at once probably the most mean-spirited piece of fiction I've ever seen). Probably though, it just became monumentally dumb by losing sight of what the original series was supposed to be about. Disappointing.

"Top" implies a heavy favourability or notable status. Naruto is the second largest manga series in Japan (second only to One Piece iirc). It's not surprising that the ending would garner praise, no matter how inconsistent it is with everything else before it.

What I'm saying is that there are a lot of manga's, SOME are popular, and SOME are ending in 2014. But not the majority of them are popular and ending in 2014. Its a limited list so its not surprising Naruto ranked on it even if the ending sucked.
