This guy speaks the truth. Every Naruto fan should read it, whether he/she liked the ending or not.
LMAO
I can't hate the series, either. I loved chapters 1-698, but like everyone else here, I hate the ending. I don't despise any other part of this manga than the ending.
The problem I have with things like this is that, yes, the journey is important, but once you get the ending, the whole outlook of the story changes. Then, the beauty of the journey relies on the end of itself, since it is known. Let me explain: I've been following Naruto for over 7 years now, and I lived through the journey that was this story. The journey was amazing, even though Kishi's writing started to decline at certain point. However, we got to the end of that journey today, and, well, I guess I don't have to repeat how the fandom, even outside of NS fans, feels. When you revisit the journey, you'll have the ending in mind, and if it's good and worthy, then you should feel like going through that journey many more times. However, if the end of the journey sucks, you won't want to go through it again. I'm going to use two examples to contrast these two points: FMA (manga and Brotherhood anime) and Mass Effect, the video game trilogy.
FMA (manga and Brotherhood): Anyone who has read and/or watched these will understand what I mean when I say, this series is one of the best in the last decade or so. The journey is amazing, and the end is satisfactory and a worthy ending for the journey made by the characters. This is one of those series that makes me want to rewatch it. I'll definitely do it again someday.
Mass Effect trilogy: The journey of this story is amazing. It's basically how a normal sentient being from the newest race in the galaxy to become spacefaring becomes the savior of the galaxy in a matter of three years. Of course, he doesn't do it alone. The cast of characters is as varied in personality as it is in backgrounds, skill sets, development, and races (humans and various alien races). Every character is well written, with emotional and psychological depth, flaws, and good characteristics. The universe is rich and vast, in history and size. This really is, I dare say, one of the best constructed universes I have ever experienced. The conflict in the story is real, and the villain is menacing and induces despair. At one point, I really believed there was no way it wouldn't end in a tragic way. However, the most tragic, and the biggest flaw of this beautifully crafted story, universe, and characters, was the end of the journey. In about 15 minutes, everything was destroyed. The once-logical, beautiful space opera turned into hard sci-fi work of art that couldn't be criticized. Of course, the entire last 4 hours left much to be desired from the ending, as some of us thought it wasn't epic enough, but that was sort of acceptable, even more when compared to the completely unnecessary Deus Ex Machina that was the Starchild. The once menacing villain was turned into a pack of obedient, organic-hating, warmongering, puppet AIs. After the ending, people came up with a fan theory that explained the ending even better than the writers did; half-hour videos on YT appeared and detailed the ending, with evidence from the game itself. Alas, it was completely shot down by the infamous Extended Cut DLC that was released for free, which further worsened explained the bad ending. I once tried to pick up ME3 from the beginning, but I didn't even make it a quarter way through before I thought about the end of the journey and dropped it completely.
To me, Naruto is another Mass Effect in my life: I'll always cherish the times I had through the journey, but it will always be tarnished by the bad ending it got.
The only issue I have with fanfics is that they're all so pro narusaku and ideal that you can instantly tell they're fake. I think that what I think Heaven and earth should do is have a contest to write the most realistic ending that is believable to be canon and pro narusaku, and then someone like ladygt or of similar skill can draw the last chapter based on the winning story. Anyone else think the same as myself, or am I just too critical of the fanfics I've seen?
Damn, I'm not good at writing scripts, but I'd dare to enter the contest with an outline of what I'd do and do a draft for the dialogue, subject to corrections, of course.
Does anyone know how NS fans in Japan reacted?
Most of the Japanese fans will react on Monday, the official day in which the WSJ issue with 699-700 is out for sale on Japan.
Are you guys going to even bother reading part 3? It's not written by him.
I think I won't. And, I thought it wasn't going to be a Part 3 per se, but a series of short stories following the new generation.
jesus christ! how can he screw up this badly?

Only Kishi, his editors, assistants, and SP know. Most of the fandom has the same question. Hell, even Kishi himself may not know.
