SasuSaku reminds me about a couple from a popular Russian musical based on Dragonlance, Sasuke resembles Raistlin Majere (who had a Narutolike brother) and Sakura - Crysania, the priestess who fell in love with him, saved Raistlin from Darkness and later was sacrificed for the greater purpose. But unlike Sasuke Raistlin manipulated Crysania in the worst possible way because apparantly she proved useful in his power quest and then... useless.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
I LOVE Dragonlance books, I LOVED Raistlin when I was a teen, adored him with all his flaws, I had SUCH high hopes for Crysania and Raistlin's relationship. And it turned out devastating. It was an ugly and broken relationship, though it was well written and understandable (imho). It has pained me helluva lot, but I understood why the author chose to develop it that way. I still wanted to forget all about it and it left me sick and unhappy.
You've made a great comparison. Crysania was so selfish and stupid in the way she adressed her feelings and conveyed them to Raistlin. She hardly managed to influence him at all, being used over and over again, trying to change him just by being there. She didn't see him at all, she was adressing some kind of distorted version of Raistlin, while passively waiting for him to answer her feelings. How could she change his ways, his suffering? She was the most short-sighted character ever and I loved how she lost her eyes to finally acquire true vision and understanding. I never understood what Raistlin himself saw in her, except for her beauty and that she was a woman, who actually chose to stay by his side. Though I almost cried when he said in sequels that he dreamt about her while being tormented.
You've made a great comparison.
Still Dragonlance was very well-written. This manga is not. Because it is different by default. We have a shounen here, not a big "realistic" story. This manga is aimed at a younger audience. We don't need so much ugly truth about how hearts are being broken, abused and never repaired. We don't need to see people choose unhappiness just how a lot of us do for different reasons. We don't need to see how everyone ends up miserable and unappreciated. Do you imagine Sakura ending up chasing after Sasuke, who made her miserable all this time, and Naruto heart-broken, having to give up and settle for his second choice - Hinata, and Hinata being miserable, because she is not the one he wanted? This is not the kind of endings shounen mangas should have, not what we are reading it for.
For a shounen story, I believe, it is a bad writing.
EDIT: Jeez, those songs reminded my of my feelings towards that story too much. Ahhhh. Мне больше всего нравится песня "Властелин Ничего".
