That was a filler scene during the Hidan and Kakuzu arc when Naruto was learning rasen shuriken so yeah it's that way back from the series. I think it's was around ep 83 or 82.

So it was filler, wow they really fit that in perfectly. Now that I think about it that's insane how that episode was a filler, they talked about the akatsuki plans, asuma's death, and Naruto's new way of making the rasenshuriken. Man they got me, and it was such a great Narusaku moment, I must have replayed Sakura sticking up for Naruto for at least fifteen minutes.

There's only one thing for it, you've got to start reading the manga. You're missing out, pal.

It sort of bugs me when they add filler scenes during the canon; it makes it hard for non-manga readers to understand whether what's going on is a filler or not. It's sort of like that lame Hinata backstory or Sakura's LONG flashback in the last episode. Heck, I remember watching Hinata's fight against Pein, and how epic they made it look. In the manga, it was LITERALLY a one page fight. Basically just: POWER UP! SHINRA TENSEI! STAB! Dead.
But in retrospect, it's probably better those scenes were filler. In the filler, they make Hinata a great cook, while making Sakura a terrible one. Considering how Kushina is a good cook, and her last words to Naruto, this could sort of bite us on the bum if it was canon.
But I remember liking that scene with Sakura defending Naruto though
Well, since its filler it doesn't mean anything, and kushina told naruto to find a girl like her. She never said to find a girl who can cook like her.

Definitely.
But that part of the filler- her watching him training was more actually showing what Sakura was doing- Tsunade's words to Sakura strongly hints that Sakura is watching Naruto's training and Tsunade (who was strongly hinted at knowing Sakura's feelings for Naruto, as far back as when Sakura asks Tsunade to train her back at the end of part 1) knows it. "How is Naruto's training going?"
The cooking stuff with the pills and Hinata's cooking stuff in the omake was complete filler though. It was just another example of Pierrot slapping the stereotypical shonen tsundere traits onto Sakura (and trying to make Hinata look better than Sakura in the omake. When if you look at their social circumstances Sakura is the one that should know how to cook well and Hinata shouldn't know the first thing about cooking.)
I'm hoping that Kishimoto has a scene somewhere along the way that shows Sakura being very highly skilled in cooking and baking. It actually fits with her personality that she would be- she eagerly learns from books and is quite good at applying that knowledge. (She is very highly skilled at preparing antidotes and poisons after all... and is clearheaded and calm while doing so- this would be the same way she would approach cooking and baking, because you use the same skills.)

Man they really bamboozled me with throwing just a little bit of filler in that episode
I feel like most of the Narusaku moments are filler now, jeez it feels like we barely have any moments at all, this is depressing.

Exactly. And I'll also point out a couple of differences between east and west in how some relationships work. The west misreads Sakura's interaction with Naruto simply because of differing cultures. In the east, some couples do whack the men around when they're doing/saying something stupid. A real-life example in my life would be my brother-in-law and my sister. Whenever my brother-in-law says something sarcastic, she always hits him in the ribs but really, it's anything but negative. My brother-in-law simply just likes to push my sister's button to get her a bit riled up and I have fun watching their antics.

The family that couldn't be.

Uh no. In fact Pierrot has a longer history of undermining manga canon narusaku moments.
If you find reading 500+ chapters too daunting, go here and see the narusaku moments up to chapter 459.

Remember that just because NS is not 100% certain, does not somehow negate the fact that it is many, many times more likely than SS and NH. Also that while those shippers would have liked the story to have taken a different direction in the past, does not change where the story is actually at now.
