Yeah, some dumb speculation is that it refers to NH, which is what worries me, since it seems like it'd be more fitting for NS in the long run, since that sounds more like it'd give us backstory to how it was when those two first met and how Naruto developed his feelings for Sakura.

Naruto is supposedly going to "realize what is really important to him" in the process of rescuing Hinata.

 

No, it's not Hinata having a stalker crush on him.  It is, like all Shounen Jump manga,  THEIR FRIENDSHIP!  

 

Protecting his friendships is the driving force behind all actions Naruto takes (along with becoming Hokage.)  He promised Sakura he'd rescue Sasuke as a friendship twofer - he would not let his friend (and hopefully future someday girlfriend) down, and he would save his precious bro Sasuke from the darkness.

 

Hinata getting her memories of Naruto wiped out would be killing an important friendship to him, even if he doesn't feel the same way about her as she feels about him.

 

So he MUST rescue Hinata and he MUST defeat Toneri and he MUST protect his friendship with Hinata.  Only to then reject her romantically.

I'm not disagreeing with you on this, but given where things seem to be heading- And I know you're going to say it's all about marketing.- well, it doesn't look good.
