I couldn't disagree more. I am no moral relativist. When the beginning of your ideals ever have "murder those who hated on me" or "enslave humanity and strip them of it's free will to make a world I can tolerate" your an evil bastard. You don't get to hide behind "moral relativism". You should be crushed. No man is God, and No one has the right to take away from mankind what was given to us by creation, our natural rights. Obito's morality is invalid when applied to any basic concept of moral philosophy, sophism will not change that.
Fact is Obito was only "Saved" because of a mix of his own in universe nostalgia, and because Kishimoto is a bad writer who wasn't talented enough to work with the theme he wanted to write.
I agree, but you're speaking of morality. Morality and validity exist independently of each other. Whether something is right or wrong has no bearing on whether it is valid. Morality comes into play only on the approach you take towards attempting to achieve the change that you desire. Right and wrong only become right and wrong after acting.
My point is this: Hashirama wasn't good, nor Madara evil, because of their reasons for hating the way the world worked. Hashirama was good because he pursued a change through the involvement of peaceful cooperation amongst the powers. Madara was evil because he pursued change with murder, violence, manipulation, and enslavement.
Think of it this way: Rin could have died exactly the same way, but instead of choosing the path he did, Obito could have tried to influence the world as Hashirama and Jiraiya did. Had he done that, he would have been seen as good, but his reason for wanting to change the system would have remained the same as when he turned evil. In essence, in both scenarios, his reasons are for wanting change are valid, what makes him evil is the way he chose to act.
The debate was never centered around whether Obito was right or wrong, only if his motivation was valid.
before obito's reveal, i look at obito and his actions throughout the story, i used to always say to myself "man, what kind horror did this villain go through to commit these acts". i always thought it would be something different from all the other villains. boy was i wrong. all the things he did was basically "what if team 7 went wrong" route.
Apparently, Obito was a black sheep amongst the Uchiha, I would have really liked to learn why. I'd also like to have had a better look at the time he spent with Madara.
