So, what did everyone pick up from the sales, then?

I was very restrained and only picked up LA Noire and Just Cause 2, both at 75% off and with complete DLC. One or two others did tempt me, but I already have Borderlands 2 on pre-order and I didn't want to have a big backlog of games. There's only so much time you can spend on games!

Wow, you'll be very busy gaming for a while, Jo. You're probably all sorted until the winter at the very least. XD

Bloody hell, that's even more than Jo got. XD;
I wouldn't be surprised if there were gamers who only got their games at big Steam sales, and just played them for the next year until the next sale. That'd be a huge amount of gaming for a fraction of the usual annual spend on console games.
Speaking of console games, I've only bought one console game this year so far - Kid Icarus Uprising for the 3DS. The rest have been PC games, mostly from Steam.

That's pretty much what I did this year. Only game I bought was SSX for the 360 and the games I got in the summer sale. Hopefully they'll last me till next year

I got my PC games mostly when they were on sale.. I splurged one day and got Crysis and all the expansions when it was 75% off. And L4D1 and 2.

Picked up Jedi Outkast, Dead Space 1 & 2, Saints Row 3, Half Life 2; Episode 1; Episode 2; Lost Coast, PAYDAY: The Heist, Left 4 Dead 2, Splinter Cell, SC Chaos Theory, SC Double Agent, SC Conviction and Portal 2.
Damn, should have gotten Arkham City while it was on sale.

Ermahgerd you can't put me on the spot like this!

I'd give it an 8/10 though. Good fun and amps up the gameplay but remains true to it's roots. I bought it mostly out of nostalgia since SSX Tricky was my favorite game of all time along with JSRF back in the good ol' days.

However, he added, the openness that helped Valve as well as firms such as Google and Zynga could disappear with Windows 8.
"There's a strong temptation to close the platform," he said, "because they look at what they can accomplish when they limit the competitors' access to the platform, and they say, 'That's really exciting.'"
This is seen by commentators to be a reference to the inclusion of a Windows Store in the Microsoft operating system.
This is a shop through which users will be able to buy apps for their Windows 8 device.
On some versions of Windows 8, it will be the only way to get downloadable software such as games.
Microsoft takes a cut, up to 30%, of every sale made through this store.
This could be a significant threat to the massively successful Steam online game store that Valve runs and which gives it a commission on every title sold through the online market.
A Windows Store closed to everyone but Microsoft might reduce the range of games available for sale through Steam (Gabe says it's a possibility if developers can only afford to launch on one platform, and choose the Windows Store).
Windows 8's links with Microsoft's Xbox Live online game service could also dent the appeal of Steam for many people.
His statement is also seen as a criticism of the new Windows 8 UI, which uses a tablet-like interface by default, even on desktop PCs with no touchscreen. When you pair the new UI with the possibility of content/product providers getting squeezed by Microsoft, you end up with a huge amount of concern from major software/hardware companies as well as PC users.
Well, I definitely have no plans to "upgrade" to Windows 8. 7 works just fine, and I'd much rather not have to struggle with a bad UI or having the Windows Store/Xbox Live shoved into my face. Maybe Microsoft will act on those concerns from Valve, but I'm not expecting much. Maybe it's time for Android on desktop PCs?
Oh, and if you know or see anyone who's excited about the Windows Store games, please take the time to educate them about Steam and its sales.

Steam and its sales= win. I was just converted to the godliness that is Steam, although it does like to make me broke during its summer sale ;___;
