when you say 'three shipping groups' I assume you mean NaruSaku, NaruHina and SasuSaku, yes? I think we can add one more ship to that group: KarinSasu. Given their already interesting developments (), the next few chapters could drive quite a few nails into the coffins of any SasuSaku-er's still left.

I posted this over in the NF chapter of H&E because some are stressing over the chapter. Seems like it might be good to post it here as well.

This isn't the confession that I wanted. Not by a long shot. It seems forced, hokey and Sakura is lying about how she feels about Sasuke. And you know what?

I love it!

There's been a lot of discussion in the past about how NaruSaku was going to happen. Kiss or confession first? And what would be the circumstances behind it?

A lot of have been noting that confessions don't usually go so well in this manga. And most of us seemed to think that NaruSaku would finally become definitely canon in some dramatic moment, possibly with Sakura having to decide between which one of them to save and that's when she'd confess. It'd probably be hokey and cliched and ultimately anticlimactic, despite the seeming drama of the moment.

I was pretty much resigned to that and I'd be ok with it. NaruSaku has had great development throughout the series and if the payoff doesn't quite hit on all cylinders, it wouldn't spoil the rest of that. After all, we're still getting NaruSaku so it reaffirms all of that prior development. It's just that the moment itself would've been a bit of a fizzle.

And that's pretty much what we just got. It's set against a dramatic decision. It's hokey. In short, it's the cliched love confession.

But Naruto called her on it!

Now, instead of getting a sappy conclusion for NaruSaku, it's thrown into doubt. Sakura has to show that she is over Sasuke and not just rebounding on Naruto. Plus, she'll have to think about her relationship with Naruto - whether she is truly completely in love with him. She (and probably more importantly, us fans) are now realizing that we can't just take it for granted that she'll have Naruto there whenever she wants him. Now, it looks like the tables are turned with her as the pursuer, but with a twist since it's not in question whether he still loves her.

I don't expect it to be resolved until Sasuke is back and she can then show Naruto that she isn't still hung up on him. Until then, it's an interesting new dynamic to their relationship and I'm looking forward to how it changes things between the two of them. Maybe it'll even help them let the other help them with their problems since they're seeing a result of what happens when they're both trying to shoulder the other's burden for them.

Or we could see all of it suddenly resolved in chapter 470 and making this post pointless. But the suspense sure makes it fun.

Great post Nick. Yeah, this definitely isn't the confession we wanted, but hey, it's not a true confession anyways. I think Kishi really just hates love confessions and in the end it will take action of some sort to show love. But I agree, it won't happen till the Sasuke conclusion happens. Naruto didn't buy it now, and he probably won't buy it any time between.

I can't say I love the scene, mostly because of what Sakura did. Yeah, the pairing itself didn't fair too badly, I think. It got some angst, which isn't a huge problem. It is development, whether it be for good or bad, the development is there. The flaws they both share are highly recognizable now too, which helps create a more forward movement of the relationship. But still, it was done largely at the cost of Sakura's reputation. Yeah, Sakura has always been about proving herself to her teammates. The problem is, Sakura has been shown to be much smarter and more perceptive than this. I think this is why people were so weirded out by the whole thing, it was like Sakura wasn't...Sakura. The impression of Sakura kishi gives the readers is much better than the girl confessing falsely in this chapter. I guess I blame kishi for not having enough ground to stand on when he made Sakura suddenly act this way. I see he wanted angst, but the angst feels sort of forced. (Kind of the same feeling I had with the Hinata confession scene)

Anyways, it's true we have, as of now, only seen the confession scene from Naruto's end. I also honestly don't expect Naruto to be that mad at Sakura. Which is weird, because he has every right to be angry. I guess I get that impression based on how Naruto has always treated Sakura in the past. He is largely her encourager when she is down or thinks badly of herself. I expect Sakura to feel this way if Naruto gets upset, and then I expect Naruto to forgive her. He really does love her, after all. He protects her feelings at any cost, the same thing Sakura seems to be trying to do for him.

Sakura is simultaneously trying to open herself up to confess while at the same time trying to protect Narutos heart.

its not something you can do, She has to open up fully and risk that being hurt.

The confession seems more genuine in this spoiler translation. The sweating... suddenly.... um...? Interpretations?

"Didn't I just choose you over Sasuke?" -- Yucky! Bad! Bad Sakura. It's definitely a red flag for Naruto. Rebound? No thanks. It's as Mr. Soapdish said. Naruto totally called her out.

I also second Miss Soupy's applauding of Mr. Nick's post. It definitely opens the door for a different level in their relationship, and the role-reversal of Sakura chasing after Naruto now. And I don't pretend to be a manga expert or reader of many mangas but of the ones I've read (that don't deal with relationships as the main plot), the major confessions have always lead to relationships quite quickly. Kudos to Kishi if he does indeed explore further depths of their relationship, and not going for the easy one. At the same time. I know I just gotta be more patient. Angst!

Oh, and @chouzu: I don't like that new translation. Change all the loves to likes... and what means a womans heart is like autumn? Sometimes translators need to NOT translate everything 1:1, so that it makes more sense for us. This new translation sounds stupid.

I was hoping the spoilers would turn out to be a bit different but alas. Sakura's spouting a lot of bs with her confession. so much for 'not wanting to make anymore mistakes'. sadly she sounds shallow and as if naruto is going to give up his mancrush just because she says so. BUT then again this does make things a lot more interesting and gets me in suspense so i won't complain to much. xD

My first impression on reading Sakura's speech was: "This sounds like a really badly written Narusaku fanfiction". One of the main reasons non-Narusaku shippers don't like Narusaku is because they say Sakura switching completely from Sasuke to Naruto would be shallow and make Naruto "the rebound". But in this, when Kishimoto has Sakura say exactly that, and then he proves her to be lying (at least partially), he can then work with the non-shallow side of Narusaku So I kind of like it, because Kishimoto takes something that is an argument against Narusaku and disproves it by showing how unbelievable it really would be. He's saying "Yeah, you're right, that would be pretty stupid if that's how they got together" and I'm hoping that next (or at some point) he'll show us "But this is how they actually get together." It's a compare and contrast thing, and it makes Narusaku seem so much more real and deep.

And I applaud Nick and Soupy-chan for their posts because on what they had said on this very confusing situation many NaruSaku-ers had fail to grasp. Despite the chapter still isn't out yet, and here we are, talking in this spoiler thread, way ahead of other chapter spoilers threads in the past in terms of posts and pages which is should've been save until the release thread.

I don't want any sappy, rushed romance that we all see in other Western media: like in Soap Operas, sitcoms, etc...

I want genuine, slow but easy to understand development that has good enough drama and suspense in the pairing that make you go "Woah! Now that's why I like such and such..."

And basically I can see that NaruSaku is almost following the same path as KenshinXKaoru from Rurouni Kenshin because I remember when that couple developed, it went to the angst route. (Which I believed it did, I remembered that scene with the cherry blossoms when Kaoru tell him don't go... and I was following it when it was on Toonami back in the day.)

If I look in Kishimoto's mind, I believe he's telling us that relationships are not perfect, there will be many obstacles, good and bad. (and remember Sakura wanted that fairy tale romance with Sasuke way back in the beginning?) We all know that there are flaws in every relationship and it order to make it work, trust, love, honesty and commitment has to play. And right now, drama once more comes into the playfield, which as Wendy Williams says on her shows:

Alright, im gonna ask the dreadful question that weve been fearing since the spoiler first came out, what is she actually lying to herself about? her feelings for sasuke? or Naruto, because im gtting sick of waiting for some to bring it up!

amazing how many people are misconstruing whats being said.

Sakura is not lying to naruto. Nor is she being entirely up front about her feelings either.

this is a case of as is aid Sakura trying to open up to naruto on the one hand while protecting him with the other. But unfortunately love isnt an one or the other type fo thing. She has to come right out and say whats shes feleing or else its gonna come out as jumbled as it did.

on top of that is the fact that as Ive said before for Naruto who has missed out on or been oblivious too most of her change of heart, It would come as a major suprise for him.

what we have here is a first step, unsteady and clumsy into what these two have been building towards.

An open relationship with no barriers between them. No more masks, no more lies, no more protecting the other at all costs even if it means hurting the protector.

The pictures sure look like she shows it. What he means by lying is that she is asking to kill Sasuke when in honest truth she sees him as a teamate to team 7. Honestly she doesn't want Sasuke to die as much as Naruto. Can't wait for the next chapter, hopefully this will reslove everything.

Besides her eyes are closed all the time because in shounens when girls confess some of them keep their eyes closed so that they don't see the guys expression, and they usually talk fast.

NINJA EDIT: Also, Sakura's rep is being bashed like nobody's business. Have you SEEN some of this? Bash pics already on DA. There are so many flames going around we might as well be in hell.

People, mainly the fans of other pairings, have *always* bashed Sakura. This is nothing new. Just ignore them like most of us having been doing from the start.
