It's been a few days, sorry. Stuff + a metric crapton of Fantasy drafts keep me busy.

8th pick, Gama Warriors (Nee-sama): Another solid draft from our mother-to-be (or is already? She’s due any day now) . Nee-sama couldn’t click the Draft Button on Aaron Rodgers any quicker, and then followed with a string of solid picks - I originally raised an eyebrow at Ricky Williams in the 5th, then followed his player profile and:
a) Immediately went “ZOMG WHERE ARE HIS DREADS?”
b) realized he rushed for 1100 yards last year. Huh.
We’ll see what T.O. has left in the tank, but overall I believe the Gama Warriors are safest bet to make the playoffs. Definitely one of the early favorites.
Best pick: Reggie Bush, 8th Round. Seems to playing with a chip on his shoulder, probably to replace that Heisman he lost. *rimshot* Thank you, I’ll be here all week! Try the fish!

9th pick, Dark Wulves (Burning_Wulf): Good top-end players, but the depth seems lacking. I think Joseph Addai will give up more carries to Donald Brown this year and San Diego’s paying a lot of lip service to running the ball more, meaning less attempts for Rivers.
Best Pick: Greg Jennings, 3rd Round.

10th pick, The Golden Thumbs (Rick (Bonta-kun)): AUSSIE AUSSIE AUSSIE! OI OI OI!
Fun fact #1: Australian Rules Football uses Goals and Behinds for scoring. It was lots of fun to watch on ESPN at 2AM back in the day.
Oh, Rick’s team? A pair of solid picks to start off the draft in Peyton and Randy Moss. His WR/TE corps is good with Moss and Gates, and every time I doubted Mike Wallace last year he proved me wrong. However, I think his backfield is a little weak; I’m not as high on Ronnie Brown as the draft board is, and I think Felix Jones gets more touches than Marion Barber. LT could prove to be very important to the team Down Under!
Best Pick: Mike Wallace, 6th Round.

11th pick, Tokyo Raiders (roninmedia): Da Raiduhz got an absolute gift with Michael Turner falling to them at 11. One of the few workhorse backs out there, he hit the offseason especially hard to prove he’s past that ankle injury from last year. In a way, roninmedia’s situation is the reverse of Rick’s; his RB tandem is great, but his WRs look to be high risk/high reward. Fitzgerald is a great WR but Leinart/Anderson may not be able to get him the ball, DeSean Jackson is a boom/bust kind of guy, and Kevin Walter is fighting for that WR2 spot in Houston.
Best Pick: Matt Forte, 5th Round.

12th pick, Jersey Shore (Mik3): The Commish went RB/RB with his first two picks (Gore/Williams) then ended up at the tail end of a QB run. Mik3 may have been targeting Kolb anyway, but 3rd round is probably not where he wanted to take him. For your sake I hope Vincent Jackson comes back after three weeks instead of six. The RB duo and Kolb will have to carry an Ochocinco/Mason/Britt corps for a few weeks.
Best Pick: Joshua Cribbs, 13th Round. Good value pick, and if the Brownies can find a way to get him the ball more often may be the steal of the draft.

13th pick, Boldin Showers (True): 5th round’s too soon to take your backup QB. If everything goes according to plan he shouldn’t play more than one or two weeks anyway. I like Flacco though. 3rd round, but hooray silly QB runs! I’m very interested to see what Boldin can do as the #1 WR in baltimore, though. Not as explosive a team as last year’s Champion model, True has a more steady ‘grinder’ feel to this roster. So much is riding on those young RBs of his....
Best Pick: Bernard Berrian, 9th Round. I’m cheating a bit with this one because the Sidney Rice surgery wasn’t announced until after the draft, but meh.

14th pick, Fire the fatman PLZ (Illmatic): Carson Palmer in the 4th. Only in the H&E draft, folks. And no, that’s not a knock on Illmatic taking him, just that the circumstances leading to him going there were so silly. I know when he wheeled Steven Jackson and
~ZOMG, have to stop typing for a bit. TECHNO CHICKEN break~

Cedric Benson, he wasn’t expecting all those QBs to be going like that. I like Steve Smith (CAR), I kinda like Percy Harvin, and I don’t like Breaston until Leinart/Anderson prove themselves. Celek and the Ravens D are good though.
Best Pick: Baltimore D, 10th Round.

(Seriously, I had to stop right then just to watch that)

2010 Season Conference

Coach True: Good evening gentleman. We’ve all had a great training camp and a strong pre season. Some players have really shined, while others still need to step it up. We’ve got a fantastic squad and this season looks to be very exciting. I’ll be here to answer a few questions before I head out to do some paper work.

Tim Cowlishaw: Coach True, you’re going into this season as defending Super Fantasy Champs. Are you afraid of a potential hangover?

Coach True: Oh trust me; we’ve had enough wild nights these last few weeks to be ready for the season. *audience laughs* But in all honesty no I am not worried. Our team is very disciplined enough to understand that while we had quite the memorable season last year, we’re solely focusing on this current year and making sure we can repeat our performance by working on strengthening our advantages and tweaking our weaknesses.

Kevin Blackistone: You let Tom Brady go this year, and have two very promising QBs in Eli Manning and Joe Flacco. Are you comfortable with your decision from going with a reliable veteran presence to two up and coming players?

Coach True: Tom was great for us last year. We won a lot of games based singly on his magnificent performance. His leadership really helped us out in the locker room and he railed the guys around him to perform. But we feel Eli and Joe will have great years as well. Both have excellent receiving corps (Smith, Manningham, Nicks—Boldin, Mason, Housmanzdah) with a strong running support and solid offensive lines. They’re both ready to take the next steps into becoming elite quarterbacks in this league.

Woody Paige: You really made significant improvements in your passing game with some solid WR’s and TE. Any chance you had Ozzie Newsome giving you advice?

Coach True: Haha that’s a good one Woody. But yes, we looked intensely into this offseason into some players who had great training camps and were either potential #1ers or a solid #2. We think Q will be great for us since he plays with the toughness we all admire. Santa Moss will definitely impress with having McNabb at the helm and if he can break away and go for the long ball (as long as the ball isn’t 10-15 yards behind him—Eagles fan grumble). Our Third spot is up for grabs, but we feel that Berrian will fill in well for Sidney Rice the first eight weeks, Edwards will do well enough in the first four games with Holmes out, and Chris Chambers had a great finish last season and looks to have sleeper potential. Owen has been rehabbing very well this off season and looks to be 100% this season. He was on a great pace last year until he got hurt and he definitely has something to prove, just ask our linebackers whether it’s on a pass route or blocking he has ton of energy and motivation.

Bill Plaschke: Your running backs look to be explosive young talent. Many have Ryan Matthews pegged as Rookie of the Year. How do you feel about them?

Coach True: They’re a great tandem the both of them. They run hard, have breakaway speed, and can catch the ball in the outfield. It’s a high risk high reward when it comes to their development and success. To quote from DeSean Jackson of the eagles “They’re the young guns” of our offense. One more question before we wrap things up.

Micheal Wilbon: Any concerns with your defense? They weren’t top 10 last year and have quite a lot of question remarks.

Coach True: Mike, here’s an interesting stat line for you: The #1 defense picked in the last 6 years, has only finished top #1 again only once. We feel we made some great choices with our D. Brian Urlacher will be back and Julius Peppers will bring a revitalized pass rush to the windy city. They have a strong front seven who will play excellent to make up for their weak secondary. Miami has a new defensive coordinator in Mike Nolan who spent many years in Baltimore building and learn from their schemes. Karlos Dansby, Vontae Davis, and Jared Odrick are defensive stars who will lead this defense to a top 15 finish.

Coach True: Alright, I want to thank everyone for coming out here. To our fans and supporters, we are going to do our best to make you proud. To our haters, we wish you the best of the luck and hope to have a great game when we match up against you.

Here we go. Whose bright idea was it to have a Thursday start in Week 1 anyway?

Jwolf's Wildly Inaccurate Week 1 Predictions!

Disclaimer: Do not operate heavy machinery or a Nintendo DSi while under the influence of these predictions.
Predicted winner italicized.

Sparky McRandomsons (jwolf0) vs. Leatherbacks (Nick Soapdish)
-Sparky McRandomsons favored by ~17 (Fractional points are turned on. No LOLTies this year, commish?)

Nearly half of Nick's team plays tonight. He's hoping for a shootout between the Saints and the Vikings, complete with a lot of 2-yard TD passes from Favre to Shiancoe. Yahoo just isn't very bullish on his WR corps however, and I plan to ride the Arian Foster bandwagon until the wheels fall off. Team Longname wins, but it will be closer; I don't trust big spreads often.

The Golden Thumbs (Rick) vs. Gama Warriors (Nee-sama)
-The Golden Thumbs favored by ~1.

For his first foray into football with touchdowns, Rick draws a very tough team, last year's runner-up. And... is favored? I think it's a function of the matchups, notably Peyton Manning at Houston. I also think that Nee-sama's favorite receiver Mike Wallace is underprojected. Too bad he plays for Rick this year. I'm going with Rick this week, although I still think Nee-sama will make the playoffs.

Boldin Showers (True) vs. Dark Wulves (Burning_Wulf)
-Dark Wulves favored by ~10.

The defending champion True is pinning his Week 1 hopes on... Santana Moss? Coach True is hoping that the little Moss still has his anti-Cowboys magic; starting him over his team's namesake. Shonn Greene will find rough sledding against a still-formidable Ravens front seven. The acquisition of Patrick Crayton bumps up Philip Rivers' stock slightly - and I never thought I'd put Patrick Crayton and 'fantasy positive' in the same sentence again. Dark Wulves takes this one.

Konoha Shinobi (Sir Whirly) vs. Zatties! (Zatren6)
-Konoha Shinobi favored by ~9.

Drew Brees will get his this week (well, he'll get his most every week), but Chris Johnson goes up against Oakland. Last year their D allowed so many runs that they could have gone through a department store full of pantyhose. Combine that with a San Fran D up against a beat up and hapless Seattle offense, (orz) and several players scoring steady points should beat a couple scoring a lot.

Fumbles (Nate River) vs. Jersey Shore (Mik3)
-Fumbles favored by ~3.

The Commish is no doubt wishing that car hit Tom Brady harder. Instead he'll have to rely on Frank Gore outperforming against Seattle (which he often does... orz). I don't know where Derrick Mason fits in the Ravens offense now that T.J. Whosyourmomma is there. Slot receiver? He wouldn't be a bad fit there, actually, if they use 3 WR a bunch. Taking Frank Gore and the Commish in a small upset.

Fire the Fatman PLZ (Illmatic) vs. Paradoxes (Paradox Jast)
-Fire the Fatman PLZ favored by ~7.

Illmatic begins his anti-Andy Reid campaign on a high note. Paradox Jast has to hope that Marques Colston has a monster game, as Illmatic has a slightly better lineup/matchup situation at alsmot every position.

The Generals (Nuclear Raven) vs. Tokyo Raiders (roninmedia)
-The Generals favored by .34 (pick 'em).

I know Mike Martz makes successful offenses, but I have to see Jay Cutler do well before I buy into the 21 point projection listed for him. Michael Turner should do better than just 7 points, but I think Nuclear Raven and MJD wins this close match.

Good luck everyone!

The Vikes are fixing to make me look pretty bad for benching their defense this week. Good!

No 2-yard TD passes to Shank so far, but I'm pretty happy with him. Penalty yards don't count against his total do they?

Peterson let me down. Now it's up to Brady to save the day.

Here's to Kevin Kolb tossing 15 picks on Sunday.

Peterson didn't. It was the vanilla playcalling.

New Orleans was pretty vanilla as well, but they switched to French vanilla in the second half. I think that Minnesota ran on first down for every single possession. It worked ok for a while, but eventually it gets jammed up. And using Shank as our deep threat is kinda weak.

I'm happy about how Minnesota's defense played, but I'm really looking forward to Rice's return. I hope that we can find a passing attack before then.

He just didn't get enough carries. He was wearing him down in the first half. wink.gif

And Yahoo says that I'm supposed to lose, but look at the score! I'm killing! a_dance.gif

I guess it'll get a bit closer when some of Sparky's players suit up. Most of my players didn't even get what Yahoo thought they'd manage.

Done. I never changed it to fractional points to begin with, those were just the yahoo projections, i had on full points like we did last season. No more changes after this since we are starting now. I did ask many many times in my messages for suggestions and questions about this, but next year I'll try to explain it more clearly.

Oh, it's cool either way. It's just that the projections threw things off because it made it look like we were fractional.

Like you said though, now that it's starting it should stay one way or the other.

2010 Season Conference

Reporter:
So Coach True, I noted at your last press conference you hailed your defenses, very confident in the Miami defense, praising "stars" such as Vontae Davis and Jared Odrick. I'm surprised that today you didn't start that defense them, considering you had such confidence in them, and that they were playing BUFFALO of all teams today...you opted instead for Chicago, who isn't playing very well right now. What are your thoughts?

Coach True:
Well...um...I guess I was kinda spouting bullsh** back there, uh...that's a good question.

Reporter: Coach Mik3, your team underperformed vastly today.

Mik3: No sh** Sherlock.

Reporter:Any positives you can take away from this?

Mik3
:The games eventually had to end was a positive.

Reporter: Surprisingly, Kevin Kolb and Frank Gore, two of your most important players were shut down and did not produce anway near what was projected. Your thoughts?

Mik3:Kevin Kolb hunts wild piggies, doesn't laugh and has good press conferences. When they start awarding points for those categories, he will start paying dividends. As for Frank, well, hes in the NFC West division. Anything you would call "good" in that division, is average everywhere else.

Reporter
: Any words for your next opponent and a potential rebound.

Mik3:I do believe we will have a rebound win next weekend, by way of a supernatural plague of injuries to the other team.
