I don't suppose you can give us an update on story status?

No change since the last time I talked about it.

Hmm, still can't talk about your predicament? I think it was said somewhere in this board in much more detail but I'm not really sure. I may have dreamt it or something....

You were dreaming...he said when he first mentioned it that he can't discuss it. The only other thing he said was that he had more chapters written, but can't post them yet.

Actually, I did eventually give a brief mention of it in another thread on another part of the board, but it was merely a clarification of why I couldn't post the new chapters. In essence, I am recieving professional advice while attempting to hunt for an agent to get my novel published (I already lost one contract because I was 'talking too much about it,' and after that decided to look for more advice) and was essentially told I should not post any updates to any of my fanfiction until I have an agent and discuss matters with him, or to e-mail chapters to anyone posing as a fan of my fanfiction.

I'm a fan! Email it to me...or are you saying you can't do that either?

If you can, PLS send to kenbond007@yahoo.com - I won't post it or spread it around.

It's not like he can make exceptions. If he sent it to you, then why shouldn't he send it to everyone else on the boards? And then to everyone on other boards? Where would it end? He might as well just post it, and that's exactly what he was advised not to do.

That's why I worded it the way I did...the way he wrote it was a little confusiing. If he couldn't do it, then he just ignores it. If he can, he emails it. I just wanted to be sure of exactly he was saying.

I see.

Oh and desaix...one thing I noticed rereading Training is that you tend to use 'wall of text'.

The paragraphs would be much better to read if the paragraphs had 4 sentences max. My eyes hurt trying to read some of the longer ones...AN's included.

Keep in mind that Desaix posted 'Training' without proofreading or editing; he has his reasons for it although I don't recall what they were. That's probably why things flow as they do - less 'wall of text' than 'stream of consciousness,' IMO.

So a while back in the story there was mention of a fan-art being commissioned and that it was posted someplace. Does anyone know where that can still be found, cause I've looked everywhere for it with no luck >_<

Sadly, that piece of fan-art is no more, unless someone else saved a copy of it on their home computer. When I originally recieved it, I had it on four places: A laptop (which died a couple years ago and has since been replaced, but took the picture with it), my old davecon.anifics.com website (the private server's owner who was hosting the site passed away, and all the data on it disappeared; some of it has been restored -- though my access to it has not been restored -- but not this image), fanfiction.net for my bio page (which deleted it without explanation), and here (where it was lost, along with the original version of this thread, during a server move in 2006).

If someone has or can find a copy preserved somewhere, I'd be quite interested in restoring it... but then again, I'm a little worried about what would happen to my computer if I actually got it back. unsure.gif

Edited to add: I should probably note that the artist of the fan-art appears to have disappeared from the site or changed their name, and I haven't seen them since only a few weeks after getting the fan-art. Seriously, unsure.gif

That really is too bad. Oh well, I hope you can post the rest of the story soon (not that I quite understand why you can't post it, just doesn't make sense to me). Hope things sort themselves out, where you left off at was rather a bad spot (just kind of stops mid event >_<).

Desaix, in V3 Chapter 23, when Hanabi is reading the letter from Hinata, you put that she was back in Konoha instead of Blossom. Thought you'd like to know. happy.gif

Hey Desaix

I don't know how often you check these boards or this topic anymore, but I just wanted to toss a salute your way. Thanks for the inspiration. I won't deny that Training for the Job is what made the gears turn in my head to start writing Whirlpool Country. I read it a long, long time ago (you can tell by how far down it is on my favorites list) though I have purposefully avoided re-reading it until I'm done with WPC so that I don't unwittingly copy anything.

Your story gave me the idea, and with recent advances in Naruto-canon, I felt I could do a total divergence from your story. The only similarities would be the aspect of making another fort/village.

Ironically, seeing that you put Whirlpool Country on your story alert list at fanfiction.net is what caused me to stop by here.

So... once again, thanks for the inspiration. biggrin.gif

=^__^= think ill use this moment tot hrow my own thanks as well desaix. for not only a great story but also for the inspiration for some of what went into my own stories.

We share some vert solid similarities in how we think jiraiya trained Naruto, and in how he would grow in strenght as well as some of the things that may have occured on his training trip.

So thanks a bunch.

I hope ill one day get a review from you on my own stories, and that youll get to update this awesome story somedays oon.

take care.

Replying to both Jast and Catsi here:

Glad for the feedback. Keep in mind, Training for the Job would be VERY different if I started it now compared to how it is. Sasuke wouldn't have been given Yuugao to make little Uchihas with, Jiraiya would be dead, Anko wouldn't be his mother and I would have had the 4th's name right, Naruto's technique base would be shrunk down to factor in his apparent lack of learning... well, anything during the Jiraiya training, and his confidence wouldn't be nearly as high (since it seemed the only result of Naruto's journey was a shattered confidence, the loss of his instinctual tactics, a bunch of techniques he'll never be allowed to use again, and a new set of clothes), etc. So, if I think my own fic should be so different it would be unrecognizable if modified for today, I'm fairly confident it's more than reasonable for someone to use some of the same ideas I've had and create a completely different story.

Desaix, the reason why fanfic exists because people want to see something different other than what's happened in the manga. I personally believe that Naruto should have gotten more mature in those two years he was gone, but he didn't. So I resort to fanfiction to fill that need, and I have found quite a few stories to fill those needs.

Not just those things either, but there were many other things as well.

Naruto isn't THAT bad...don't forget, he learned Kage Bunshin within hours - with no help - he learned Rasengan in a month with very little help (OK, he can't do it one handed, so what?) - something that took Yondaime 3 years to create and Jiraiya a year or something to learn WITH Yondaime's help.

You pegged it in your story in the scene with Sakura and Ino when Sakura tells her that Naruto is useless at D-Rank missions, but his intelligence goes up the higher the challenge.

Look at what's happening in the manga now...Naruto did better at the Sage Training than Jiraiya, and better at collecting Nature Chakra without the oil than with. The higher the difficulty, the better his chances of learning the technique.

I very much agree... which is why I find it so astounding that he added ABSOLUTELY NOTHING (well, almost -- I suppose a larger version of the rasengen counts as something, but just barely) to his technique base, from what we've seen, in the years he spent with Jiraiya. Strains credulity, that one, so I'm not too happy with Kishimoto about that. If I were starting this same fic from scratch, I'd have to explain that apparent logical inconsistancy somehow.
