So I heard Boruto's special eye will disappear for now, hence no appearance in the movie. If true, did I just watch filler?
...What. What. What? WHAT!?! So, the first 14 episode of the Boruto anime are pointless then. Normally, in filler for an anime especially SP tend to just use the powers that were recently shown in the anime or if they do give them a new power it's temporary and normally its clear that there was a special activation for it, that will probably never happen again. For the most part. You normally don't start out a story with a power being discovered learn and master then never used again. Even tough Naruto rarely ever used the summoning jutsu after he learned it, it was still an integral part of the story (especially because of the sage mode and the prophecy). So for the first 14 episode the introduce a rare and special power. Hinting at Bolt having great destiny which includes the use of this rare and special power. This power is integral to the plot. A lot of time is pent trying to figure what this power is about. Then after the arc is done they never plan on using it again.
...Here what I think is going on. The anime was trying to make a justification for Bolt's right eye (it has a byakugan and a scar running through it like Kakashi's) after the timeskip. The manga team may not have completely figured out what would be the deal is with that eye, yet. So because it the only thing Bolt has that isn't his daddy issue with Naruto, and his apprenticeship with Sasuke. They decided to make it a unique power Bolt has -due to being the Son of Naruto and the Hyuuga Princess-, and then use it to build a plot around. After watching the story play out a bit the manga team decided that they didn't like the idea and planned on never using it. So after being informed of that SP has to now drop it. They won't drop the clone though.
So the beginning is a bait. So lame...It's not going for DBS rather another Naruto aka fillers and more fillers with a wall that says "Canon because I said it!"
While both are monthly manga made by Shueisha. The difference is that Super anime and manga are separate but equal while Boruto still follows the manga.
For Super Both are given and outline by toriyama on what the plot is and what plot points he wants them to do, but its up to them to decided how they go about. So they are both Canon every episode of Dragonball Super is just as canon as every chapter.
Boruto the anime is just setting itself up earlier then the manga did so it can add more backstory ans give time for the manga to write the plot. but the manga is canon and over the anime. If the manga says they are never going to use those eyes they gave Bolt then they must drop it. Granted they aren't going to abandon the clone until she is the love interest though.
