I've been "love" with plenty of guys over the years, and yeah, some of those stupid crushes are things I would remember if someone told me anyone I loved must be AWESOME. Um, no, they weren't. I'm lucky to be with a great guy now, but that does not negate my stupid likes and loves of the past. Nothing can erase that. You can love, and regret that love, and maybe even cease to love in the present, but the you that was in the past will still be in love.

Sakura loved Sasuke. She really, honestly loved him and believed in him, and he took that love and threw it away. Unfortunately for Sakura, you can't un-love a person retroactively. She's going to have to deal with those scars for the rest of her life. Eventually they'll heal up, but it's still pretty fresh, and it's going to keep popping up in moments just like this.

I do not consider it a regression of Sakura's character - this is a moment of self acknowledgement.

Yeah. Except you'll have to make me believe that she loved him. For god sake, she was a twelve year old fangirl. It might be bad, but no love. It was a crush. Sakura honestly needs to eff-in' get over it.

I'm gonna ignore the little pairing thing for now and skip over. There's so many ways someone could take Sakura's image of Sasuke (I personally see it as her regretting having ever had any feelings, romantic wise, for him.)

Yep, and thank goodness for you, triksie and Shauna posting, keeps me from screaming "AAAAARGGGHH! You're reading it wrong!" to some of the posters in the thread. wink.gif

Okay, got that out of my system. I'm tired of discussing that part of the chapter, I want to discuss the coolness of how Kishimoto showed Sakura is sharply intelligent and no damsel in distress that so many seemed to fear last chapter...

She only fell in love with the Sasuke that was Naruto, That is why Catsi keep saying the bench scene is so important. Naruto (in the guise of Sasuke) said all the things she wanted Sasuke to say but as we know it was naruto but Sakura to this day thinks it was Sasuke.

She won't move on so to speak until she knows the truth of the matter.

Her love for Sasuke is based on a lie

i just feel it doesn't matter if she loves sasuke for that scene, she loves him anyway without it. just to find out that was actually Naruto who said that confirms
he is her one and only true love.. her Soulmate! they were fated to be together. that will leave her speechless.

Hmm I don't think the bench scene is a large reason for Sakura loving Sasuke. The "Sasuke" did say "That is something Naruto would say" which led Sakura to being disappointed. Her image of the perfect Sasuke was lifted only for that short moment before the statement was given out.

I disagree, without that scene it would have remained a crush, the real Sasuke did nothing to encourage her love, but Sasuke(Naruto) was everything she wanted Sasuke to be.

Her crush deepened to love there.

Haha yeah I thought that gross description fits her feelings nicely. Eating cookies and cream, you will taste the overall taste of the vanilla flavor but the cookie bits will still affect largely in the overall taste even though they are only bits and pieces. Thanks for giving me the idea of comparing things with food! biggrin.gif

There are times when comparing things with food is the only way to see, taste, and feel what's going on. LITERALLY kruemelmonsteryn0.gif technically it could be listening too, since the crunchiness would be there because of the Sasuke cookie bits- but anywho, yes, comparing narusaku.gif with food works for me kruemelmonsteryn0.gif

The resolution of the bench scene seems like a very interesting idea to me. Here was my problem with it initially though. If Sakura was over Sasuke, and had already fallen in love with Naruto, why would resolving that scene be relevant? Some people have said it would make Sakura love Naruto more. Well, that seems pretty pointless, if it's simply an order of magnitude. I can't see why would even need that scene if she had already moved on.
But then 540 came out. And it looks like Sakura's not over Sasuke, at least completely. This makes a potential resolution of this scene much more relevant. She already knows Naruto loves her, so if she were to find out Naruto has understood her, even from the beginning, and was the one complimenting her biggest insecurity, I can easily see this finally resolving Sakura's feelings.
And, although I didn't really think it was all that important initially, the fact that Kushina also had physical insecurity complimented by Minato sort of proved to me that the bench scene will get a resolution. I mean how many female characters in the series have had an insecurity about their physical appearance? The parallel seems uncanny.

So although that panel in 540 was definitely bad for our pairing from a short-term perspective, I think it might actually be a good setup for us in the long-term. We'll see how it plays out though. I still can't see that one panel being a stand-alone panel.

i agree Naruto is everything she wanted sasuke to be. but wether her crush deepened after that scene or it happend later on.. doesn't matter
the fact of her finding out it was really Naruto she knows hes the love of her live.

Well I'm a little late to the party but anyways, I don't know if this has been said and I'm not going to look through all these pages to check but when I read the chapter the SS and NH "moments" in there didn't have me worried. In fact the only thing I thought about it was how obnoxious the SS and NH fans were going to be when they see it.

I don't believe that Sakura ever truly "loved" Sasuke; all she had on him was an enormous crush.

It was love, but it was a love for a Sasuke that never existed. She loved the image of him - the cool, collected, mysterious one.

(When I was in first grade, I was madly in love with Joey Goebel. Years later, I dated his best friend in high school. Awkward! But my inner first grade self still remembers him fondly, and his cute dimples. I didn't love him as a person; I never really knew that person. I loved and still do love the memory of him.)

English is such a limiting language... we have to remember that there are many shades of "love" and while her affection for the image of Sasuke was just a crush, a crush is a painful thing to have destroyed nonetheless.

Ah well... we'll just have to see what happens next week.
