Biologically....yeah! But feathers don't only serve the purpose of protecting them! There's much more to that! It's the aerodynamics of the flight birds. They have a streamlined body and the feathers are so arranged that they co-incide with the direction of streamlines. Their bones are hollow so as to reduce their weight. Their tail feathers are something else entirely! They control the elevation of the flight and directions as well. So you see....it's not just 'feathers', it's much much more than that! A perfect...streamlined...body! The aerodynamics of the design is most significantly visible in eagles!

Fairies will forever remain a myth UNLESS you can genetically engineer and modify humans which is not so simple at that. But you sure can use some of the 'bird' genes to fill in the gene sequences and create fairies! This is kind of kittened up quite honestly, since we are trying to control nature over here. No one has the right to do that!

Apart from the genetics, no-hollow-bones is really not the reason for not having fairies! That is like....a drop in the ocean! Insignificant! We have machines x100 times heavier than humans! The only thing to keep in my mind while flying is, balancing the normal force using upward force or the 'lift' force and giving the directions using the drag forces and....aerodynamics of course!
