Apparently the cost for making Road to Ninja exceeded $1,260,000 (source: http://www.crunchyro...al-dvd-in-japan). The return of that in the debut equaled $3,800,000.
Now if you were to triple the budget for The Last, that would come out to about $3,780,000. The box office during the first week was $4,300,000. It exceeds the production costs, but as someone mentioned, the revenue it brings in would need to exceed double the budget for it to be considered a profit. We should expect The Last to eventually reach that objective, but this multiple of RtN's budget is probably not even accurate.
If what you said about RtN is true than this wasn't the case
I should re-phrase that. It needs to make atleast twice its budget back to have done well.Generally speaking movies tend to use as much money on the film as they do commercializing it. So atleast this answers the question why they went a different direction than RTN. They thought it wasn't making them enough money so they decided to go with NH
You're right though, it's not accurate, we need to wait and find out
Yup, which is why I don't get why Kishimoto would cater to the west, because they're obviously not gonna give a kitten about or buy anything he makes. It's just really funny to me, since there's a thing against piracy going on in Japan right now
It seems that the theory of Otaku's from SP and the people who work with kishimoto decieved him is looking to be what happened, because everything that he says seems to be false
