I should re-phrase that. It needs to make atleast twice its budget back to have done well. Generally speaking movies tend to use as much money on the film as they do commercializing it. So atleast this answers the question why they went a different direction than RTN. They thought it wasn't making them enough money so they decided to go with NH

The budget for this movie should a hell of a lot more than what it was for RTN, because the animation is pretty well done. Time will tell if this movie a huge success or if it didn't make much profit. The marketing for this movie was over the top too, so..

Surpassing RTN doesn't just mean it is better than RTN

Ratings of RTN is above 4 while this one,

I'm really wondering what made them think a movie about a side character would gain them that much? She only popular here in the west, and it's not like they're gonna buy that kitten here. Then they already don't care for her that much in Japan, so

With my personal experience, most don't give a kitten about the story and pirate everything. The only thing they might buy is the games, but most have like only 2 naruto games(the old ones too)
