RUMOR.

Even if they are building a PS4, I hope they don't make that same mistake of removing backwards compatibility that they did in the PS3, otherwise, they'll lose a lot more money than they did with PS3.

Yeah removing the backwards compatibility really sucked. I'm unable to replay some of my PS2 games since my console is faulty already and have to resort to emulators on the PC.

Despite that, removing the backwards compatibility (along with other features...) was also the reason why they managed to bring down the price from 500-600 to 250 bucks. So, here's hoping the inevitable PS4 doesn't cost as much as the PS3's launch price.

I haven't heard anything concrete, but there's another rumor that the PS4 will use another chipset entirely than the current Cell processor.

Month old story

It's an old link, and just another rumor, for the most part, but if it's true it might spell bad news for people who want backwards compatibility. I'm not an expert on consoles or anything, but I gather that it's fairly tricky to make the system backwards compatible if they're planning on changing the architecture completely. It'd definitely be dissapointing for fans looking for an upgrade as opposed to a new system.

But oh well, I doubt there's even going to be concrete news about the PS4 till at least next year, so, like Shad said, these articles can really only be taken as rumors right now.

Hardware tech price drop also helps too.

A couple of news snippets:

Following his collapse, Yoshinori Ono will be stepping down as producer of the Street Fighter series for a while at least:

Yoshinori Ono steps down - Kotaku

Sega is in a really bad position, following the publication of its latest financial results:

Sega cancelling games, cutting jobs in the EU and US.

Sega, please, PLEASE don't make PSO2 Japan-only. If that happens, so many PSO fans are going to feel let down. sad.gif

Judging from that article, the chances for an English release went down a lot.

Yep, at least in America:

Sega of America Walloped - cutting jobs and focusing on 4 franchises.

Apparently, SoA has decided to focus on the following four franchises; Sonic, Football Manager, Total War, and Aliens.

"IGN reported that QA for North America has been completely shut down, with Sega Europe taking over its functions. Positions in functions like marketing, social media and design also got the axe, IGN says, citing unnamed sources."

*sighs* None of the above four series are the ones I like to play. sad.gif I just hope that there will at least be an English client for Phantasy Star Online 2. At least Dead or Alive 5 has Virtua Fighter characters as well, and that will be coming out worldwide!

But here's a problem: VF5 Final Showdown is coming out this summer digitally and its a strong possibility that will get canned as well. sleep.gif I and the rest of the fighting game community was waiting for almost 5 years for the new VF update and now I'm hearing Sega of America (which is one of the companies I'm trying to apply) laid off many employers including the QA department, thus cutting majority of their IPs, except Sonic.

Well, re-reading the Sega statement carefully, there is a key phrase that could give hope; Sega will focus on those four series AND providing digital content. So, PSO2 and VF5 Final Showdown could still make it through as they're both digital titles, which are cheaper and easier to distribute (they'd just need to handle localisation, perhaps via SoE). I assume the four series are those that will still be published in traditional physical media (DVD/Bluray/carts) and sold in brick and mortar shops. It seems that other publishers may do the distributing of Sega-developed titles, like Nintendo is doing with Rhythm Thief on the 3DS in Europe.

I certainly hope my interpretation is correct, since there's also the Jet Set Radio HD digital port coming up! We need more Dreamcast classics on XBLA/PSN/PC!

Quite honestly, when I read this kind of stuff about the next generation of consoles, I have a good question popping up in my mind.

Why should I put up with that kind of stuff, when I can simply switch to PC? In fact, I have been focusing more on PC gaming since I built my new system at the beginning of this year. Several years ago, PC gaming was dying and it was bereft of variety and innovation. Now, it's absolutely bursting with life thanks to indie developers and Steam. Not only is there a huge variety of genres now, several titles are also designed around joypads so they feel no different from a console title.

The value for money is great as well. Why should I pay £40 for a new console title when I can grab it on PC from day one for £30, or even at half-price/70%-off if I wait for a Steam sale? Why should I pay for Xbox Gold if I can game online for free on PC? There are even free to play MMORPGs such as Champions Online and Star Trek Online, the latter of which I am enjoying.

I think I'll wave goodbye to Xbox and Playstation when the next generation launches. The Wii U is the only one I'm considering, and that's only because my family love getting together and playing the party/multiplayer games. That, and I love Zelda games. Even then, I'll be waiting at least a year after it launches so I can see how it goes.

I'm pretty much thinking the same thing....
If they do indeed implement measures to completely
stop 2nd hand sales and have some weird always online
drm.... Goodbye consoles. It was fun while it lasted...
also. most pc games have 360 gamepad support =D
and even if they dont. There is always xpadder smile.gif

There's a lot of games that is exclusive to the consoles like the Final Fantasy series or Halo. I guess it depends on the person's preferences in games. Personally, I don't buy a new console just when it is released. I see its market of games for a few years and let the price drop a bit before considering.

I don't know if anyone's been following this (I've only heard rumors about it until today), but some actual news just came out about a "Secret" 3DS colloboration title between Sega, Namco, and Capcom. Here's a link to the article, and the actual Japanese one for whoever's interested.

Project X Zone
Japanese Page

The pending title is "Project X Zone", and it's apparently going to be an SRPG featuring preset two-person teams from various Namco, Sega, and Capcom games. So far, these are the currently announced teams.
Ryu & Ken (Street Fighter)
Mega Man & Zero (Mega Man)
Dante & Demitri (Devil May Cry, Darkstalkers)
Chris Redfield & Jill Valentine (Resident Evil)
Sanger Zonvolt (Super Robot Wars)
Jin Kazama & Ling Xiaoyu (Tekken)
KOS-MOS & T-elos (Xenosaga)
Yuri Lowell & Estelle Heurassein (Tales of Vesperia)
Kite & BlackRose (.hack)
Sakura Shinguji & Ichiro Ogami (Sakura Wars)
Pai Chan & Akira Yuki (Virtua Fighter)
Kurt Irving & Riela Marcellis (Valkyria Chronicles)
Ulala & Toma (Space Channel 5, Shining Force)

I actually enjoy the SRPG genre, so I might have to pick it up. I'm a bit surprised they're going with an SRPG game though, considering it's a bit of a niche market. I guess I'm interested in hearing more about it, in any case.

THIS better be localized in the West! We need this happening. We already missed out Namco X Capcom for the PS2 over 5 years ago. Hopefully characters like Chun-Li, Taki, Sonic and others are in as well.

I'd like to see a Sonic/Shadow or Sonic/Knuckles team. I'm sort of curious how it's going to play though. The character teams seem to be coming around from all over the place, from fantasies to sci-fi's and everything in between. That sort of thing doesn't really matter in a fighting game, but it might be a tricky if they're attempting an RPG with a larger focus on storyline.

But I guess we'll see. I know a lot of Mega Man fans seem pretty excited for it. Seeing X and Zero together again sounds pretty awesome. happy.gif

Well, I'm happy its is still coming out. Many events a couple of weeks ago during the Sega of America's layoffs were promoting Final Showdown so I wasn't worrying like an idiot.

Also, there are rumors that Sonic Adventure 2 and other Dreamcast titles are coming to LIVE and PSN digitally. So, I'm hyping at this. biggrin.gif
