Quite honestly, when I read this kind of stuff about the next generation of consoles, I have a good question popping up in my mind.
Why should I put up with that kind of stuff, when I can simply switch to PC? In fact, I have been focusing more on PC gaming since I built my new system at the beginning of this year. Several years ago, PC gaming was dying and it was bereft of variety and innovation. Now, it's absolutely bursting with life thanks to indie developers and Steam. Not only is there a huge variety of genres now, several titles are also designed around joypads so they feel no different from a console title.
The value for money is great as well. Why should I pay £40 for a new console title when I can grab it on PC from day one for £30, or even at half-price/70%-off if I wait for a Steam sale? Why should I pay for Xbox Gold if I can game online for free on PC? There are even free to play MMORPGs such as Champions Online and Star Trek Online, the latter of which I am enjoying.
I think I'll wave goodbye to Xbox and Playstation when the next generation launches. The Wii U is the only one I'm considering, and that's only because my family love getting together and playing the party/multiplayer games. That, and I love Zelda games. Even then, I'll be waiting at least a year after it launches so I can see how it goes.
