I wouldn't say NH is a crack pairing simply because Hinata loves Naruto, and as long as one party loves the other, I don't think it should be considered a crack pairing. Even though I don't consider it crack, I still don't think it'll happen, though... Also, I wouldn't exactly consider the NH fan base a minority, lol, although the point still stands. I agree with everything else you said, especially with NaruHina not being much more significant than LeeSaku if it can be assumed that Lee still loves Sakura. If, indeed, that can be assumed, then the only thing NH has over LS is the fact that Hinata's feelings for Naruto are brought up every time she appears.
Lee protected Sakura during the exams, and while Sakura appreciates Lee's efforts to protect her, but it hasn't been shown that she loves him. Hinata sacrificed herself to try and protect Naruto from Pain. Naruto appreciates Hinata's efforts to protect him, but it hasn't been shown that he loves her.
I have a question. Before Naruto Shippuden existed, did many people consider LeeSaku a possibility just like they considered NaruHina a possibility? If people didn't really consider LeeSaku a possibility when talking about pairings even back then, then it's really obvious that the only thing that separates NH from LS is Hinata's popularity.
If a pairing isn't crack just because one person loves the other, then what is crack?
Because from your explanation, Sakura X Love letter ninja isn't crack either. In your explanation, you X your stalker won't be crack either.
Love letter ninja, Lee, Hinata both love a person who doesn't love them back. What differentiates the former from the latter?
And as far as I know, I still believe Lee is in love with Sakura, with how he tried to comfort her during the war saying he will protect her with his life (not to mention the Rock Lee gaiden).
And yes, I believe the only difference between LS and NH is popularity. Lee does the exact same thing with Sakura, risking his life to protect her, but his actions doesn't get as much applause as Hinata does in the pairing base. LS is much healthier and probable than SS, yet pairing fans thinks SS will have a bigger chance of happening. It's all about what the pairing fans prefer. Pairing fans don't want to root for Lee, because he's not handsome or overpowered or anything. And to be honest when I was a SS fan, I only rooted for the pairing because Sasuke was cool and handsome and strong that I wanted him to have a pretty girlfriend.
Sure, NS maybe a minority when it comes to fans who read mangas for pairing reasons only, but I believe they are a majority for people who reads it for actions or plot reasons. It's just that these people don't voice their opinions about pairings so often or don't get on the internet to discuss about the manga.

LOL, my brother only watched Naruto up to like the end of Part One, and he asked me if Sakura is in love Naruto yet. I was surprised that he thought Sakura was gonna fall in love with Naruto, because he likes Hinata better. He reasoned that it's obvious Naruto's gonna get everything he wants at the end. xDDDDDDDDDDDD
Similar thing happened when I was talking with my friend who read only volume one. I was like discussing how bad I felt for Naruto because he was so lonely. Then my friend said, "what about that pink-haired girl? I thought she will be his girlfriend." And I wanted to shout, "Not yet! They will soon" but kept silent because I didn't want my friend to know that I'm into pairings
