If I had the endings side by side — the one we have now and a one where Sakura died in battle and was mourned deeply by Naruto, everyone else and even Sasuke (with Naruto moving on to Hinata but dedicating the hospital in her name, something like that — then I would choose the one where she died. Like I've said, the ending now is just like some kind of April Fool's prank. Or a genjutsu. Not a real ending for the story that came before.

 

And I hate to say that - Sakura is my favorite character. There was so much potential for her to make a powerful change in her life and in the story. But Kishi just trashed it.

 

 

 

On the topic of Shinachiku and Menma, I would have preferred to use names that carried a meaning to them. Naruto wasn't named Naruto because he liked the food - but because his dad like the ideal of a book character named Naruto.

 

Naming kids randomly after food because Naruto is named after food misses the point. 

 

(Bolt is decent because it has some meaning behind it, tying it to Neji. But Salad? What??? Where did that come from?)

 

Yeah, is there a character that had more unfulfilled promise than Sakura? We thought she'd use genjutsu skills to totally surpass Tsunade. We thought she'd mature and think more deeply about her relationship with Sasuke. We thought she'd stand beside Naruto to help bring back Sasuke. I could go on and on. But in the end, all of that is unfulfilled and we're left with her crying after Sasuke and fainting because she's broke.

It's terrible.

What do you mean justify? Do you mean do it and not make everyone who cares look like a complete doofus? I don't mind it if he is sufficiently called out on his crap and the damage he's done through his absence is portrayed well or really...at all.

Ah, who am I kidding? This is Kishimoto and this is Sasuke. Why should I expect any of that?

 

The only people who will buy any justification for Sasuke's absence are lazy people who are still on a high that their OTP worked out.

Soooo, do you guys think Kishi can justify Sasuke being gone for 12 years? I think he can because he did so with Itachi...

He'll prob come up with some kind of explanation that will redeem him in front of the people.

I'll imagine it'll be something like Sasuke having watched over Sarada from the shadows all the time and blahblahblah. In short, no.

To be fair: I've never been a fan of Sasuke, so him being gone for 12 years only made my impression of him worse. No matter what, he won't redemn in front of my eyes.

Kind of hypocritical of me b/c Van Hohemheim from Fullmetal Alchemist  also left his sons and wife alone and didn't bother returning when his wife died, leaving the sons on their own (although I'm not sure whether or not he knew that his wife has died while he was gone). And he's still one of my favorite characters.

Let's be honest here Sasuke could easily say he was partying or killing millions of people for the past 12 years and Sakura and Salad will both kneel in front of him as long as he says "Yeah I'm sorry" the entire world will just give him a free pass. they always have.
