Either way, Sakura, Kushina, and Kakashi --that's nothing compared to nearly the entire shinobi alliance.

Minato sort of hugged Naruto after rescuing him when he was a newborn and he technically hugged himself during the Falls of Truth training.

I should remember it, I just re-read the series a couple months ago, but I reaaaallly don't.  Holy crap.  Now I'm curious, do you remember which arc?  I'm seriously drawing a blank!

Naruto was happy cause Kakashi signed them up for the chuunin exams. I thought it was cute, heh.

So sweet.  But you're right, Naruto's only hugged a few people, and has held hands (or touched hands) with hundreds of people. There's no comparison.

How in Tartarus did I not remember that?  Or Iruka?  Oh my brain!  He also probably hugged Jiraiya at some point (like I wouldn't be surprised if there was such a panel).  So that's officially 6, unofficially there's a good chance he's hugged Sasuke, Jiraiya, that Hiruzen hugged him when he was a baby as well as whoever was hired to take care of him when he was an itty bitty baby, so including the unofficial but probable hugs, 10 or 11?  Still, nothing compared to the thousands whose hands he held.

 

Thanks for going through "Naruto's hugs," I really appreciate it!  =D

 

If we include Chomei, would we have to include all the times he potentially hugged/held Akamaru during his fight with Kiba?  All the potential hugs he had during any and all taijutsu fights?  Though, I'm thinking it's fair to limit this to humans, or would that be hypocritical.  We can ignore all the hand/paw-holding Naruto must have engaged in as well.  ;)

 

It's so obvious, the only "canon" relationships are NaruKaka, NaruSasu, and NaruRamen...*nods*  I mean, he said "I love you" to Kakashi, kissed Sasuke (who care's if it was an accident, they're destined!) and well Ramen...well it's Ramen.

As cute as it was when Naruto hugged Kakashi and Iruka, I think when Sakura and Kushina hugged him it gave the most emotional impact of any. Not to mention that it was Sakura and Kushina who did the hugging, so in a way Naruto been given a significant show affection by the two girls he loves for the most.

^Best thing is, we didn't see the impact Kishi would only do that if he has something to hide and we already know he loves Sakura, but I think leaving some imagination is more powerful :3

It's always more effective when the affection, intended or not, happens from the one who is in questioned or "not supposed to be in love".

I was just being extremely thorough and pretty silly.  And I agree, the emotional impact that Kushina and Sakura's hugs had is extremely important.  The impact that Sakura's hug had on everyone else in town is important.  As drawn, the other villagers are essentially showing the readers how we should react to the hug, how we should interpret the hug.  I think that's fairly important.

Naruto may have hugged other people before chapter 450, but Sakura was the first person to hug him - i.e. the first time another person instigated a hug with him (that he can actually remember, so I wouldn't count his parents).  In all of the other instances, it was Naruto leaping excitedly at the other person.  Therefore, I think the significance of the moment to Naruto would be pretty big, imo, even if he didn't have romantic feelings for her.

I agree. No one here is downplaying the hug, just something we do for fun. I mean, it's a long wait. But yes, as I said, it's all about the atmosphere and that one is no doubt significance.
