Who can say there will be further SS 'development' after this? Like others have said, it's the final nail in the coffin.
And about this whole silver medal business, regardless of what has been said in this chapter, I still believe Sakura will choose Naruto when given a choice between the two of them, in fact I wouldn't be surprised if the story is setting itself up for that.
I think there's a chapter where Sakura thought to herself that if the both of them were injured she would have to decide who to heal first? Maybe I'm thinking about the anime, but anyway I think the story is setting itself for that.
Sakura's romantic relationship with Sasuke has always proven to be immature. My impression of this chapter was that it was a final, desperate attempt to bring Sasuke back from madness. What Kakashi said wasn't exactly false (though rather gross use of words I agree), he and Sakura were talking about feelings in a past tense.
