Well, if you follow and understand the terminology of Street Fighter, since the former and KOF are very similar, you'll be better with 2-D.
I remember back in the day I sucked at the series because I was young and I haven't follow the coordinates of the controller (and there was no Training/Practice back then)... and this was like when SF was very popular on SNES and Genesis (user on the latter). It took me about over 15 years of playing the series to become better (learning charged Super Combos is a primarily example).
My best suggestion for everyone is: STICK with EASY diffculty then focus your way up towards the next level. It will help getting the unlockables/extras better. Plus Training/Trials are your friends to master those moves.
Now mind you, I just starting playing KOF for a couple of years, though its a little bit more complex than SF in terms of controls (Super Moves for the KOF characters are alot easier than SF characters, however) because of the highly defense and offense moves that need to be mastered.
You luckily didn't have to go through other SNK 2-D fighting series like Fatal Fury. You'll probably throw the console out the window if you faced an SNK-Syndrome boss like Geese.

What's Happening with the Naruto series as of now!

I think I'll just stick to 3D fighting games. I prefer them over 2D. Not surprising since I'm a Virtua Fighter fan. I enjoy a 2D fighter every now and then but VF/3D fighters are my kind of games. I just hate how people spam moves the whole freakin' time online and I can't do a thing. That's not a problem in VF.

I don't feel like putting down 15 dollars on a buggy game. (At least they pulled the patch out within the week)
