Heaven and Earth scene with Iruka.

What happens here? Team 7 gets out of the Forest of Death and opens the scrolls and Iruka shows up. They passed that phase of the test. Iruka tells them about the Chuunin motto written by the Hokage. "If you lack heaven, seek wisdom, be prepared. If you lack earth, run in the fields, seek advantages."
Naruto is indicated to have Earth, Sakura Heaven, and Sasuke has both.
Why is this important at all? Well, it's not anymore. But it was supposed to be. It's foreshadowing that the unity of Naruto and Sakura will accomplish something important later. This is something that never actually happens. The two of them very rarely fight the same enemy at the same time, and the only time it was just the two of them was against Kakashi. The ultimate two-man team in the manga was Naruto and Sasuke, not Naruto and Sakura.
So what else could it have meant? Hmm.
Did Naruto love Sakura at this point? Yes.
Did Sakura love Naruto at this point? No, she still likes Sasuke. You can see that she developed quite a rapport with Naruto by this point, though.
So what does this mean for NaruSaku? They're two halves of a whole. They have opposite strengths and weaknesses. The logical assumption is that Naruto and Sakura are going to end up together. Especially when you consider that they rarely fight together in the manga. Well, Sakura rarely fights at all, but that's a completely different thing to complain about.
I mean Naruto is Earth and Sakura is Heaven, so together they're Heaven and Earth. If Sakura is with Sasuke, that's 2 Heavens and 1 Earth. That's hardly profound.
Rating: 3. This scene has very little meaning in retrospect. Either Naruto and Sakura are supposed to be the ultimate team, Naruto and Sakura are supposed to be a couple, or both. Neither of these things happened. There isn't a lot more to say. There are several worse scenes, but this is still bad looking back on it.
Hell, if you want, you can say that all this scene meant was that Naruto needs to become smart, while Sakura needs to become strong and Sasuke is already perfect. My response to that would be to say that it wouldn't have been treated with so much reverence if there was no deeper meaning. Why set up clever foreshadowing if you're not going to use it? Maybe if there hadn't been such a ridiculous amount of development, this scene would have been a brilliant red herring!
Also, Naruto is still a dumbass to this day.

Their simultaneous reactions were great. This panel alone says a lot about the dynamic between the characters, which the ending destroyed. It almost deserves a 3 rating by itself.
Anyway, that's another part of the story wasted on account of a shy, blue-haired girl.
