Omg, pls don't remind me of Tokyo Ghoul. I still have mental scars from season 2. You can watch season 1, b/c that was a fairly decent adaptation, but I highly recommend you to check out the manga afterwards starting Ch.1 and to read the entirety of Tokyo Ghoul, before you check out season 2. You'll see how much they left out in season 1, and how much they butchered season 2. It's not even funny.

But yes, I absolutely love Akatsuki no Yona. Yona is truly a great female lead, and the romance has finally started to kick in around Ch.65 or so.

Btw, this summer season, Studio Bones (the one who made Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood) are animating Akagami no Shirayuki-hime. You might wanna check it ( I definitely will). I get Akatsuki no Yona vibes from the trailers I've seen so far.

lol sorry.. :P

so they really did messed it up.. too bad it seems nice to see TG animated nicely.

Well for some reason i can't get myself to start TG yet, don't want to force it so i just have to wait when my mood lits up.

Oh! Akagami no Shirayuki-hime is on my radar already.

been following the manga since before and i just LOVE it i'm feeling all giddy just thinking about it.

Love to see Obi animated

do you also read the manga?

Aside from the MC girl having red hair and is awesome , i don't see much similarities on the two.

Akatsuki no yona gives me that old school adventure type thing.

while Shirayuki gives me saiunkoku monogatari vibe

btw are you familiar with that one? its pretty cool too. romance is in the back line but the MC girl is awesome as well.

Oh, I see. I just had those vibes b/c someone else was recommending me Akagami no Shirayuki-hime first. And nope, haven't read it yet, but I will soon. I don't read too many shoujos right now safe for Akatsuki no Yona, Orange, and Ore Monogatari!!. I'm not a huge fan of cliche high school drama stories unless there's an interesting twist to it.

Never heard of Saiunkoko Monogatari before.

You should consider Natsume Yuujinchou. It's shoujo, but no romance to speak of. The anime is so wonderful, though I haven't read the manga yet.

I took a look at it really quickly when you gave your rating in that one thread ^_^ I might check it out.

i totally agree about cliche highschool stories, its like they'll just change the characters but same things happened.. school festival, sports fest, field trip etc it gets old in some points.

Well Shirayuki has likeable characters and it has its own charm.

I highly recommend saiunkoku monogatari as it is quite similar to both akatsuki no yona and shirayuki-hime but still original on its own.

Both saiunkoku and yona has historical setting that leans more on the eastern asian, while shirayuki-hime looks a bit more western but still historical setting.

Then all three seems to deal with political problems but not so much on shirayuki but still all three has an awesome main girl and loveable cast and interesting plot.

actually the three of them especially akatsuki no yona gives me that RPG vibe lol

also saiunkoku is also animated by MADHOUSE same with shirayuki.. it isn't their best work but it gets better on later episodes.. it has a second season to which is a bit darker. but cool plot twist.

that one is good too altho i haven't watched the other seasons yet. this one is really relaxing and has the same vibe as mushishi. these kinds of anime is a great breather among the others deteriorating quality.

I've read Shiraykui up to chapter seven, not very far yet to form much of an impression, but I'm liking it.

I'm making my way through the second season of Natsume Yuujinchou, it definitely gives me a similar feel to Mushishi -- which I love. These kinds of stories don't get the attention from viewers/readers that they deserves, I think.

The anime to Ao Haru Ride reminded me of how much I hate those silly type of High School story settings

Saw the opening to Saiunkoku Monogatari. It looks interesting. I'll see if I get to watch a few episodes soon (don't like the artstyle that much though tbh).

Tell us what you think of Akatsuki no Yona once you've caught up! I love, LOVE the comedy that often stems from the dorky and hilarious interactions b/w Yona and the rest of her gang. Oh, and you gotta your Bishounen Boys in this series :smug: As you can already predict, Yona's real journey has just begun: She will travel around to get a better look of what her kingdom and the surrounding countries look like. It's kind of a shame that a second season will most likely not happen :(

glad that you liked it so far...it continues to get better.

and yes.. i think its in the pacing and storytelling that makes Natsume and Mushishi stands out.. but i think both are really popular, its just that it doesn't have a noisy and crazy fandom like Naruto does.

haha i read Ao Haru Ride, at some point i just roll my eyes on the characters, but i did finish it to know the ending. i can say its well.. normal but what i don't understand is why its so damn popular.. its pretty generic.. i'm guessing its because of Kou's eyebags (the MC guy) lol. only his looks are likeable.

And about Saiunkoku monogatari, they also have dorky characters and the story actually has depth but maybe you can just put it on your list for now..

BTW i just finished reading Akatsuki no Yona upto what i assume as the latest chapter..

hoooooooooo why did i caught on it so fast.. now i am craving for more!!!

Now THAT is what i call development!

love how the characters who you thought were just one dimensional but got to have something in them as the story progress.

It makes me happy, excited and anxious at the same time.

ugghh what do you think will happen to them now??

ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

EDIT

okaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayy just found out chapter 93-108

this is some serious level of obsession from me lol im suppose to do something but i just can't lol

At some point, I will read Ao Haru Ride just to say I read it. Maybe it's so popular b/c of it's appealing artstyle? Many of the shoujo mangas I've seen had a rather mediocre artstyle. I'm more interested in the mangaka's previous work Strobe Edge. Heard that one was a lot better.

I just love the fact that MadHouse was animating Saiunkoku Monogatari! Makes everything so much better :D

Glad you liked it. I love the character development that everyone, especially Yona has been going through. Hahaha, about the rest of the chapters: The scanlation team should have caught up by October. If you are really, really impatient you can read fan-translated text up to the newest chapter on this website called raffmanga

Oh, and Zeno: Badass. That's all I'm gonna say.

uh-huh...I always recommend Strobe Edge than Ao Haru Ride.. I gues its because of the good looks of the main guy that it was so popular.

And yeah.. I'm currently on chapter 102... that's where i read most mangas..altho i need to use my phone or tablet so it'll be easier clicking on the red boxes lol

and oh.. Zeno...indeed!

chapter 100 had me like WTF this is INTENSE

then came chapter 101.... :argh: :argh: :argh:

that was some.....AoT right thur :wot:

I'm kind of curious about Io Sakisaki's newest manga PurexReal (what a title XD). Bit skeptical about the plot, but I'll see what it'll be like: http://www.animenews...ew-manga/.87996

Yes, Zeno is love, Zeno is life :smug: Nice plot twist there :hehehe: But the sad thing is that even if season 2 comes out, this wouldn't get animated :( You caught up quickly compared to me XD

hmm.. her art is really beautiful but lately those kinds of shoujo doesn't appeal to me that much anymore unlike before. If it has a plot outside romance then it will be more interesting. horror, mystery and adventure is more of my thing now. have you seen Ghost Hunt? that's one of the series that i can rewatch countless of times. Psycho-Pass and Death Parade are some of my latest watched animes..those were great as well but i'm not sure if its to your liking :sweatdrop:

and another thing about akatsuki no yona.. don't you just want to hug 'em all and tell them its okay??

Maybe they can just have an uncensored version.. but I've seen other animes with much more brutal scenes. so why not do that part as well? I kinda predicted Zeno's case for sometime now but it was just some gut feel..

When just considering Shoujo mangakas, I have to agree that Sakisaki's artstyle is beautiful although I have other preferences. Mizuho Kusanagi (Akatsuki no Yona's author) has currently one of my favorite artstyles. Arina Tanemura also has a nice artstyle, and since I've read three of her works in chronological order I was able to see her artstyle evolving. Only problem is that her latest mangas have turned into... the worst if you ask me. Few other shoujo mangakas I love, but can't think of them right now.

I haven't heard about Ghost Hunt before. Haven't watched Psycho-Pass yet, but I'm planning to! Btw, why does everyone hate Season 2 of Psycho Pass so much XD? Watched Death Parade, and loved the heck out of it. Too beautiful. And any other animes you're watching this summer?

Oh, and you're watching Ore Monogatari!!, right?

Zeno has it the worst if you ask me  Oh, and I wasn't referring to the censoring. Just judging by the pacing, I am assuming that even a second season would never reach Ch.100. It'd most likely leave of after the Water Tribe arc, leaving the audience to complain about Zeno's lack of character development and background info :zaru:

But for now, we can look forward to the OVA coming out in September :D It'll be about the Hot Spring chapter with Kija's little spider problem XD

So... favorite characters? For me it's Yona, Jae-Ha, and Zeno, although there are times where I just can't decide b/c like you said, I just want to hug all the four dragons  Btw, special mentions to mommy Yun :pimp:

Hm.. i haven't read Arina's work.. what is her best title?

Ghost Hunt only had 1 season in anime but the manga is still on going. Its one of my favorite.. if you like mysteries and the likes then this is GOLD.

Psycho-Pass is really one of the best out there for me. I don't hate Season 2, it was okay for me. The reason why people dislike it is probably because Kogami (the main guy in the 1st season) was only shown once and not even in a flashback but

just in case its not allowed here

Also a lot of people seems annoyed at the new character, the new partner of the MC.

and yes, i do watch ore monogatari.

lol there's a number of great shoujos out there

some if i may, are LAST GAME, orange, hajimari no niina, akagami no shirayuki, cat street, Yamamoto Zenjirou to Moushimasu,

Hiruunaka no ryuusei, Shinrei tantei yakumo, etc

i can't remember all of it too lol but another one i remember which reminds me of Akatsuki no Yona is Reimei no Arcana, altho of course not totally the same, another red haired girl who got to develop along the way.

And how could you ask me to choose!

I want everyone, everyone needs love. call me selfish huhu

I didn't paid much attention to Zeno before i get to read his backstory OMFG i need to read/watch something happy, eat chocolate, talk to someone.. I CANNOT SLEEP LIKE THIS

glad that you liked it so far...it continues to get better.

and yes.. i think its in the pacing and storytelling that makes Natsume and Mushishi stands out.. but i think both are really popular, its just that it doesn't have a noisy and crazy fandom like Naruto does.

I think they're pretty successful in Japan, but I'm not sure how well-known they are elsewhere. If I'd just gone with more mainstream series I don't think I would have found them myself, I just tend to seek out lesser known series intentionally because there's a lot of good stuff out there that falls under the radar compared to big named anime/manga.

. Haven't watched Psycho-Pass yet, but I'm planning to! Btw, why does everyone hate Season 2 of Psycho Pass so much XD?

So... favorite characters? For me it's Yona, Jae-Ha, and Zeno, although there are times where I just can't decide b/c like you said, I just want to hug all the four dragons  Btw, special mentions to mommy Yun :pimp:

For Psycho-Pass, I didn't like the second season for a couple reasons. One, it didn't address things I was hoping it would based on the first season; two, the backstory on the antagonist was just bizarre and too much suspension of disbelief for me to swallow. Season two has different writers and it shows bad, IMO. I love the first season to bits, but I almost wished I passed on the sequel altogether.

AnY's characters are just so easily likable, gah. :excited: There are very few stories where I love so many of the characters so completely.

Hm.. i haven't read Arina's work.. what is her best title?

Ghost Hunt only had 1 season in anime but the manga is still on going. Its one of my favorite.. if you like mysteries and the likes then this is GOLD.

Psycho-Pass is really one of the best out there for me. I don't hate Season 2, it was okay for me. The reason why people dislike it is probably because Kogami (the main guy in the 1st season) was only shown once and not even in a flashback but

just in case its not allowed here

I think the most famous of Arina Tanemura are Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne and Fullmoon wo Sagakittene. Pretty good if you ask me. Recommend checking them out.

Ahh, don't you just love your red-haired heroines :D?

I understand: Everyone in Akatsuki no Yona needs LOVE :argh: !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hmm, I see. I'll still check out season 2 of Psycho-Pass though just to see what this is all about.

I wish I could own the volumes to Akatsuki no Yona
