I hated Jellal and Jerza long before the Naruto ending. Jellal is the catalyst for Erza becoming a kitten character, alongside her random asspulls.

The trope is ridiculously stupid and really needs to get cut out of literature.

I did say jokingly.

The best I can say is, "I've seen worse..."

I think for me it was the opposite, I disliked Jerza? Erlal? ever since it became obvious secause of his revival, but I've become more accepting of the two since Naruto ended with a complete git, who never did anyting to gain forgiveness and get the girl simply because Kishi said so, he never tried to regain trust, earn forgiveness, instead he went off on a journey came back got a woman pregnant and buggered off while she was still pregnant.

 

After reading that and worst seeing the fanbase not only accepting it, but branding the git the best fictional father and husband, made me look at Jellal and how he's actually trying, and not accepting Erza's feelings as he feels unworthy of her. Atleast if this happens it's explained well in the manga...Though one thing that will always be a big sticking point is Erza feelings for him stem from her youth, she has been shown to have loved him when still 11 or something, she loved the person that no longer exists, the current Jellal is not the innocent boy she originally had a crush on, she had one conversation with the reformed Jellal and fell hard...This makes it difficult to completely accept it, their relationship needs to be built from scratch, instead it's being continued as if the time inbetween never happened and the two of them are still the same people...which they are not.

Well to be fair, they did have an arc where Jellal returned and it pretty much had that ordeal of "you're back but should I be happy?" I'm not saying that alone is good enough, but I guess that's "enough" in the basis of Mashima's thought process. It's better than nothing, that's for sure. Still, I do understand what you mean but so long Jellal acts the way he is with his stature, then I'm ok with it. I don't want this guy to be hanging out like nothing ever happened. Right, Sasuke?

You know, this is like that DBZTAS scene where Piccolo witnessing Vegeta and Trunks' bonding and because of how rough Trunks get, Piccolo just look at Gohan and tells him he's a good kid. I guess Naruto is the former and we are Piccolo that looks at other series and say, "You're ok..."

Forever laughing at how Erza is always the one to bark the loudest about friendship, but was the first to forget about Simon and others like him that Jellal murdered like they never existed. Turned out to be such a hypocrite.

No. Read 263-264 again. She clearly still remembers Simon and the fact that Jellal killed him. She outright says that she won't forget it, either. And that's why Jellal has to keep living to make up for it.

Please, she doesn't value Simon's life in the least. She might have said that she wouldn't forget it, but she clearly did. The fact that she shames anybody who had a problem with Jellal is proof of that much. To be arrogant enough to tell Simon's little sister that she shouldn't hate Jellal shows how much she actually thought Simon was worth. She became a hypocrite in regards to Jellal, and it's ridiculous.

She never said that. But you do have a point that when she tries to redirect Jellal's blame onto herself. If she had said something more meaningful like how Kagura has every right to kill Jellal, but what comes after? Focusing all of that hatred onto one person would just leave her empty after.

If she had said something along those lines, it would've had a more profound effect thematically.

Regardless, though. Like harry4e, I'm OK with the pairing. I consider it leagues better than SS, and that's saying something. And Gruvia is rock bottom on my list, and I wouldn't ever put Jerza in the same league as them.

I agree with Codus N. Jerza isn't as Harsh as one in Naruto

Gruvia is a pairing I won't like even if it is the only possible pairing in FT

Has it been forgotten that Jellal was possessed by Ultear all that time, and is atoning for those actions regardless? Just saying. About the Kagura thing, yeah I admit telling Kagura to not hate the one responsible for her brothers death is hypocritical but at the same time just feeling pure hatred is not a healthy way to live so Erza probably just wanted to deter her from that. That said, she is on the high and mighty podium at times, forcing her ideals on others which is more than annoying on occasion admittedly.

Think of how ridiculous that is. Jellal was one of the ten great wizard saints, he was leagues stronger than Ultear, and at no time could break from her control? He hasn't atoned for anything, he does nothing but hide behind Erza, who doesn't have the right to defend him, in essence running from his responsibilities.

Jerza isn't that far behind Gruvia for me. The only real good pairing is NaLu. GaJevy and Miralax are ok, and the jury is still out on Zervis, but Jerza and Gruvia are trash.

It's well expected for an omake to have shippy moments. I know I would've been very disappointed if it didn't. But boy the perversion in this chapter.    I seriously can't think of a main character that hasn't been shown totally nude in this manga at least a few times.

As I mentioned earlier, I'm totally with you on this guys. Gruvia is not a good ship for me in any way and I just can't bring myself to care about them. I'm not anti, if some people like it, they should go for it, but I really want to know what makes them likable because I can't figure it out.

 

I'm actually surprised that people here outright dislike it because when I see some pics of them on tumblr everyone is like "OMG such a cute couple". Maybe if you like one pairing in this manga, you're obligated to ship them all.  As for me, I only really ship NaLu and Gajevy because even though Gajevy doesn't have that many moments, I like their dynamic. Jerza is a bit meh for me, I don't particularly like Jellal and I'm still not sure whether to consider him a huge ass or just misunderstood and lost and whatnot. 

 

On a side note, I just love how obvious Mashima is in his pairings. I think he makes it very clear who's meant to be with whom, I really don't believe he'll pull a Kishi or anything like that.  There is a possibility that, for example, Natsu and Lucy don't end up together as a couple in the manga, but there's practically no chance for them to end up with someone else. It would make zero sense.

I guess the outcomes from the Naruto pairings have kinda tabooed some of us in terms of pairings, not that it's a bad thing ofcourse.
