a movie's success isn't solely based on how much money it made. sure it plays a big role, but it's not the only role. will the movie do well for the next couple of weeks? did the movie surpass the budget? is the reception from the fans good? is the merchandise selling well? there are so many factors that goes into a movie's success.
Yeah we don't know if the movie will continue to be a success in the following weeks, it probably will outdo RtN, but what we really need to look out for is the potential damage the movie did to the manga...look at Resident Evil 6, that sold well opening weeks but soon as word got out how bad it was, the game tanked, Final Fantasy Xiii, the first game was the fastest selling FF game on release but once news came out the game had almost no exploration and how first half of the game felt like a tutorial, the sales took a massive dive, Xiii-2 sole less than half the number of units and Xiii-3 less than half of that.
It's a domino effect, just because they won't feel the pressue now, doesn't mean they won't feel the effects later on, I wouldn't be surprised if they are already revising the budget for the Bolt movie already after seeing the negativity surrounding the ending.
Naruto is not like a Call of Duty game, where the majority don't care for the plot, all they care for is the online play, for Naruto the plot is everything, the romance is like the single player mode in CoD they want it to be there and be fun but it's not the main reason most read it.
