Anti-Enders hate what Naruto has become, citing character assassination and breaking of the story's themes.

 

We have normies  calling Naruto a bad father who should be with his kids more considering his past as an orphan.

 

And we even have some pro-enders starting to call him out, saying he idolizes the ninja system and puts more importance on being Hokage over his family (by which they mean motorboating Hinata's Hinatatas). They also think he's too stupid to be Hokage.

 

It's like no one is buying the crap SP has been selling about the character. No wonder the franchise went into sharp decline.

A fellow anti-ender friend of mine posted this on another site that I frequent, and seeing Naruto on the list prompted the two usual defenders of him to belt out the typical excuses for Naruto's failure as a father. Y'know, "he's too busy preparing for the alien invasion!", which has nothing to do with his lack of empathy for his son, his hypocritical treatment of him in the Chuunin Exams, why he doesn't seem interested at all with spending time with his family (when even freakin' Shikamaru implies that he can and should). Similarly, they tried to apply this excuse with Sasuke, citing his role as Naruto's recon in gathering information to help in said-invasion, but that doesn't explain why he hasn't even attempted to communicate with his wife and daughter for the past 12 years or even contributed to maintaining their household.  Or how neither father seems interested in their child, but one another's.

Even if Sasuke's mission is important, he still heavily neglects his family. I mean for kitten sake, his daughter thought someone else was her mother. Even when Sasuke does come back, he doesn't show any interest in Sakura. It's like she was his breeding partner to make another Uchiha and that's it. Even the picture of Sasuke that Sakura has displayed wasn't one that they took together, but its Sasuke's team.

I don't know Viz is accounted for this type of situation (unless they were pushing for Hinata on front behind the scenes), but the rest, yeah.

Generally speaking, Viz has no control over where the stories go. They're just a translating company.

 

However, they did have one moment that probably didn't help. Near the end of the Kushina flashback, they changed her final words to Naruto "You'll probably want a girlfriend, just don't fall for the first one you see...find someone like me..."

 

Many pro-enders take this to be gospel, claiming that "Viz hires professionals, not biased fan-subbers" but this isn't the first time Viz has taken liberty with translations. Sasuke usually tells Sakura "You're annoying", yet in Part 1 they have him say "You make me sick". In the Rurouni Kenshin manga, they have Seijuro Hiko say he can't allow Shishio to be the other practicioner of Hiten Mitsurugi, when Shishio NEVER did that style. Also, in the Yugioh manga, they started calling Yugi's card Osiris like in the original but reverted back to Slifer during the Egyptian arc. 

 

Not only that, but Viz created an impossible conundrum with Kushina's last words. She told Naruto not to fall for the first girl he sees, yet Sakura is still compared to Kushina in the end. So, does he go with her or not? If given between the two options, would she rather have Naruto go out with whom he falls in love with first or the one like her?

 

Ironically, taking the flashback of the Last as canon (well, like it or not it is, but with the contradictions and what not...) Hinata WAS the first girl Naruto supposedly laid his eyes on and kind of liked, so if we had a NaruSaku ending those words would have been appropriate.

 

Either Viz was warned ahead of time how the romantic subplot was going to conclude and came up with a script they thought would better suit the eventual end, or being in the front and center of the pairing war knew some fans would drop out and intentionally made those words the way they were to create more confusion and speculation so they would not suffer a sharp drop from either side.

One reason I hate Funimation so much. They take terrible liberties with their dubs. So much so, it's causes backlashes.

Problem is that while Tekkadan are sympathetic, they end up being the villains and Mikazuki is supposed to be damaged and creepy. Hell, between one VA saying they are the unsung heroes and how low-effort the final episodes sound, it looks like they missed the point entirely and just phoned it in for an ending they didn't like.

I just think it's disrespectful to the original author. Like except with cases like Ghost Stories where the studio asked, the job should be translating the work should keep the same tone. If it's problematic, let it be and allow us to judge for ourselves. Changing kitten like this just screams "I know better than the original creator" Changing a joke of wording to get the point across is one thing, adding your own politics is another. And if you're being paid to do the job, don't phone it in.

Well, they DID translate stuff wrong in many cases like when Sai told Sakura he could tell Naruto loves her and when she confessed by saying "like" instead of love and stuff like that, plus some of their letters and stuff when Shonen Jump was physical were pro-Hinata a lot of times, so there's why I suspect some favoritism there.

Well if there is one thing I WOULD say to be fair to viz in that regard it is that the japanese translations is "suki" which is the equivalent to "like" more or less.  "Ai" is "love" or "great love" in both Mandarin-style Chinese and Japanese and is used VERY conservatively for those that are incredible close to a person like a spouse. Kushina used "ai" to Naruto in the japanese version. (since he is her only son and they never got to meet physically)  *ahem* To really like someone, or a more casual word for love I suppose, is "daisuki".
 
Anyway my point being, "suki" is the phrase to use for a crush but a lot of translations blow it out of proportion to use it as love. In fact Hinata only used "suki" too but viz translated it as love, so it is just english translations not understanding the cuttural difference between how East Asians express how they "like" someone compared to how they "love" someone. If Sakura and Naruto were married then "ai" would be a more appropriate word, but clearly they are not.

 

Just saying that there is more to it than just bias although bias DOES play it's part I don't deny it Like Why Naruto only says like But Hinata says love which is BS since she doesn't even know him
