Smiter,

You'll love it. I have the Hori Arcade Stick Pro 3 for PS3 and the TE Fightstick from MadKatz. I didn't realize you had the standard stick. It makes a HUGE Difference. The TE stick is nicer than my Hori stick and I kinda baby it. I play mostly with my Hori stick though kinda don't want to wear out my TE stick. I let my friends play on the Hori while I use the TE stick. Its a great stick, glad you were able to find one. Good luck and Enjoy!

Well, I gave the TE FightStick a whirl last night, playing a short series of 5 Cammy vs Akuma matches with True. happy.gif True was short on time, and my wrist was still recovering from the marathon SFIV day. Again, I do NOT recommend playing 60+ LIVE matches in one day! That number also doesn't include the dozens of Challenge matches I played as Zangief/Cammy. XD;;

Anyway! First impressions.

I was initially very nervous, and there was plenty of fumbling for the START button. I kept hitting where it would have been on the Hori. XD But it didn't take long to get used to the new placement of the start/back buttons. The stick is very responsive. Strangely, it doesn't work if you try setting it to "Left Stick" (I first played SFIV with the analogue stick on the 360 pad), but it's perfect on the "D-Pad" setting. Dashes were easier to pull off! They were 50/50 to pull off on the Hori, but perfect on the FightStick - something I could see when I dashed at True three times in a row. Quarter-circle movements aren't 100% yet, mainly due to my slightly different hand placement. However, pulling off Cannon Spikes is even faster! With a little more practice, I think I can even kill off cross-ups.

Another huge difference is that the buttons are amazingly sensitive! The merest touch will set them off. In about 2/3 matches, I was able to start doing some quickfire Cammy combos. I definitely feel more confident on the FightStick than I did on the Hori. There were rare times the Hori would just refuse to acknowledge QCs/HK, and the psychological impact could severely hinder my game. The extra two face buttons are also helpful! I no longer need to reach so far for the KKK button, plus I've assigned Focus Attack to the other extra button so it can hopefully be executed quicker and more often when needed. In training and offline, I can normally hit the buttons for FA/PPP/KKK without the need for shortcuts, but online fighting can be so fast-paced at times that it's easy to stumble!

The build quality is definitely up there, and it's nice to know that it's easy to swap out and customise the stick and buttons - essential for any repairs. The cable was initially difficult to put away; at one point I was afraid I would tear off the door! However, it was pretty easy once I figured out the trick.

I can understand what Racer means, I kept muttering about seeing my fingerprints on the FightStick and polishing them away. XD;

Thanks for helping me test it out, True. biggrin.gif

I'll play a few trials with Cammy today to try and nail her combos on the FightStick, then hopefully I can play a few LIVE matches tonight. happy.gif

I don't know smiter, I have the Pro 3 Hori stick for my ps3 and the standard Hori stick for my 360, (what an expensive venture that was) and I have to say, I like the standard Hori better. I've used the SF4 tourney stick before, but I wasn't really impressed with it. I kinda prefered my Hori sticks over it.

But I have to comment, despite what you think, not all the Hori sticks feel the same. Each individual ones feels different to me at least. I've played at a SF4 gaming community thing at one of the colleges near where I live. Talk about 6hrs of non-stop SF4. Anyway, there sometimes you get to use other people sticks, in case the SF4 isn't free on the system your stick is for. But anyway, I've played with at least a dozen Hori sticks there, every one of them felt different. So maybe that's what it's like for you too.

Also, when do you guys get on to play. Everytime I get online I usually see Shauna and the Master Chef guy (sorry I can't remember his H&E name *^^*) But I never come on when you guys are doing the SF4 fest.

I have been playing Street Fighter 2, since the World Warrior days, and was pretty good in all the games up until Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo, and then things went downhill. I never really got into Street Fighter 3, and now i'm trying to get back into the swing with Street Fighter 4....and boy do I suck, I can't play on the 360 controller, so I ordered the Hori Arcade stick, which seriously sucks, so I replaced the buttons and added octagon arcade from Sanwa, which improved my performance a bit, but with my bad soldering job the buttons sometimes become unresponsive.

So I finally managed to get hold of the six button pad....which is good an all but just not as fun to play with as an arcade stick, plus i'm not as young as I used to be and get finger cramp very quickly. so yesterday I ordered the MadCatz Fightstick SE and Sanwa buttons and joystick to hopefully get a true arcade feeling. Now if I can get to even 50% of my old fighting days, i'm not expecting any more, as the whole focas cancels and the speed of the game is something I don't think i'll ever get used to, but if I pull of a dragon punch like it's second nature again i'll be happy.

I seriously hope this works the total costs of playing Street fighter IV is getting crazy, so far Ithink the cost is up to £300, as I pre-ordered the PC version with the 360 controller from Capcom US as well. It would have been cheaper to just buy a fightstick TE.

I'm thinking of giving Sakura a go, she's similar to Ken and Ryu, only problem is I feel like a dirty old man when playing with her...lol (Though why she is still a school girl I have no idea, Isn't this supposed to be after Street Fighter 2, and she was a 15 year old in Street Fighter Alpha which is before Street Fighter 2, I wanna see a college student Sakura with nerdy specs. :-)) Cammy is a fun player to play with if I can remember I'm not fighting as en and try to do the thrust kick using hard punch. Chun-li i'm more of a button basher with her, as I am useless with charging moves.

One problem with playing online is 90% of challengers are either Sagat or Akuma, I can might have a small chance against Sagat but Akuma is a pain to play against.

Yeah, I can understand how each Hori will feel different. happy.gif My Hori does feel a little clunky, but it could be wear and tear or simply psychological (It has completely failed me in a couple of fights - both offline, thankfully). The increased sensitivity of the buttons on the FightStick feels like a real plus. Also, it goes without saying that every player is different, so he/she will have his/her own control preference.

I wish there was a SFIV gaming community near where I live! Offline multiplayer must be great fun with that game. smile.gif

Some of the guys usually come on at around the same time as me (UK evenings/US afternoons). Hopefully, I'll be on tonight! This week I'm on holiday so I can play any night as long as I don't have plans. happy.gif When I'm working, usually I can only play on Saturday/Sunday nights UK time.

Thanks. smile.gif It's hard to resist its siren call from my room. XD But I've had other things to do today.

The Orange Box is awesome, especially TF2! It's a pity I only have it on the PC so I can't play with Xbox gamers. It was great fun playing as the Medic. XD Maybe I could re-install it since I've been playing Dead Space on the PC and have not suffered any ill-effects so far.

EDIT: Took so long to send reply I totally missed Harry's post.

Really? My problem is that I usually see Kens everywhere. In fact, many of them counterpick Ken when they see me pick Cammy. tongue.gif Sagat is troublesome because of his long reach and lack of weaknesses. Akuma, however, can be beaten if you're careful not to take unnecessary risks when he has a full Super/Ultra bar. I'm not sure which characters can counter Akuma's Super/Ultra, but Cammy can kill it with her Super, Ultra, or even a Cannon Spike. As True has found out. wink.gif

hmm...really, I have only played championship mode online, so you can't really see who the other person is going to choose, otherwise I play online against my friend and get my arse handed to me, (My top score is only 7000, whilst his is 72000, so a bit of a gap there, sad when you consider he learnt to play street fighter watching me and his older brother play against each other on the SNES and Megadrive). Most of the time, it's Sagat, then Akuma, then Ryu and then Ken, I think i've faced Cammy once and Blanka once

I can usually avoid Akuma's super/ultra. My problem is getting close to him to do any damage, and I usually end up getting frustrated and making stupid mistakes. With Sagat, in the current low teir i'm in, he's relatively easy to counter as most players haven't mastered his timing yet so I can usually jump over their Tiger Shot and then do the classic, hard kick, uppercut, dragon punch combo on them. I think once I start playing properly and move up the rating's i'll probably have more trouble with Sagat.

It's funny, the usual picks I've been having as opponents tend to be Ryu, Ken and Sagat. Out of the three, i love fighting Sagat's the most. His large body and slow reaction time makes him a bit ol' target for me. And its funny, since people that tend to pick him expect to have an assumed win or something against because I picked Cammy, but I tend to eat them alive.

Also the Ken fighters, they've become more and more enjoyable as of late. I'm really starting to see the weaknesses in his game, not to mention despite the fact they have a lot of the same moves, Ken and Ryu are diffidently not the same. Out of all of the characters I've fought, Ryu's, Blanka and Honda give me the most trouble. And Balrog (Boxer) if used correctly is insane.

Ryu and Ken are definitely not the same, like other games Ryu is the stronger of the two, and more difficult to play against when mastered, my friend plays with Ryu, and he is completely crazy with him, he does this 20 hit combo, Blanka and Balrog are also very difficuly to fight against good players, they will quickly box you into a corner with almost no way to free yourself.

Well anyway got my Fightstick SE today, and have to say big improvement over Hori EX2, the joystick is surprisingly quite loose and makes doing moves with ease, where with the hori is still quite stiff in comparison, makes you wonder if I really need to bother with the sanwa stick....though the octagon gate will definitely make certain moves easier to pull off, though the square gate isn't as bad as the Hori's was. The buttons on the other hand even though responsive and feel good, do feel kinda hollow and cheap. The stick is also heavier than the Hori, which is good as it hopefully means it wont slip on my lap, something that i'm always fighting against when playing with the Hori.

Also Smiter, there is no way Sakura can be 16/17 years old, she's 16 in Alpha series, and considering Street Fighter 2 takes good few months after Alpha 3, and Street Fighter 3 is around 2 years after Street Fighter 2, Sakura should be atleast 18/19.too old to be dressed as a high school girl.

Btw: I got my arse handed to me twice against Cammy yesterday after I made my post.

Yep, Capcom have now decided that Sakura is immortal and will never grow older. tongue.gif It would have been nice to see an older Sakura (college/uni age?), but it wasn't to be.

Sorry I couldn't make it onto SF4 the past couple of nights, I had a lot of things to do and just didn't have the energy. sweatdrop.gif However, I will be on tonight! Probably 7-8pm British Summer Time (2-3pm EST).

I haven't bought SF IV yet but i eventually will for the Xbox 360, i definitely get either the Hari or TE stick like y'all said. I use to be good at playing Street Fighter Alpha 3 for the Playstation and i heard the combos/super attacks are a lot easier on the new Street Fighter IV. Like Smiter was saying about Ken i use to be good with him as well on Alpha 3 (his uppercut and hurricane kick combo.) If i remember correctly Bison's Psycho Drive on Alpha 3 was the most powerful move in the game but Cody's (uppercut, punches, kicks, and tornado strike)/Akuma (bloody fist of fury) had a combo attack upwards of 30+. Shin Akuma was a little more powerful as well as Evil Ryu. A gameshark had to be used to unlock the special M. Bison that could use the same powerful Psycho Drive as the one at the end of the arcade mode game.

Yeah, i used to get ticked off having to fight multiple Segats (constant high/low energy blasts) and multiple Adams (flying downward kicks and fast movements) in the World Tour Mode of Alpha 3.

Okay guys Hori makes some good arcade sticks and the TE is great but if you really want a top of the line stick, then you might want to visit this website.

http://arcadeinabox.com/

You can build your own custom made arcade stick there and it's built from the ground up. You chose the buttons, button layout, stick, you can even put your own custom artwork on it if you want. Now with this in mind it's not cheap. The stick I'm saving up for is the True Arcade Custom and it's gonna cost me around $330 with all the options I'm putting on it. It's also compatible with the Xbox 360 and PS3.
Spock it, lock it, rocket, explode it, reload it.
