Oh, god no. Because Hinata = $$$.
Neji had actual depth, so he's the one who needed to die.
Hinata is bland, so she needed to live.

basically hinata still has development, considering shes had none for the past 600 chapters, neji was at his peak

That's my point, though. The story is so uninvolving right now that we, the audience, needed a reason to care. Kishi needed to focus on characters with depth so that we'd actually care about what was happening.
Instead, he kills one of them.
He's only made his situation that much worse.

Well, if his goal was to make us care, he succeeded considering how many pages this thread has in such little time.

There's two types of caring:
One is the "omg I want to see what happens next, can't wait until next week!" caring.
The other is the "ok ragequitting now kitten this manga" caring.
He triggered the wrong one.

No, I want her to finish her character development asap and then fade back into the background so we can focus on the main characters again (or other side characters).
That being said, I do hope we get to see Team Gai's reaction to this next chapter.

Won't Neji be a martyr now?

And just to clarify, this is more for personal reasons than any storytelling reasons.

Not to be an ass, but really, so what if it is?

well depends on what path Kishi will choose .. I mean if he choose make NaruHina canon, he can use it as an excuse ,it will be a really bad excuse but NH itself will be hard to swallow, a bad excuse here and there will not make a difference.

I can't imagine that's what he will hang his hat on.

Hell if anythings you can look at it this way, kushina and minato are narutos parents, so they did it protecting him as parents, as family, so neji and hinata protecting him like that would be like them protecting him as family, protecting naruto as sort of a brother and sister to him, so if anything its far from a NH moment.

no she wasn't...Kakashi can't even move...yet we clearly see Sakura dodgeing...hence the "dodge" right above her head... I can't prove it to you clearly.. but Kakashi is limp...and Sakura was the one in action...I don't know how much more clear it needs to be.

Exactly it wouldn't say "dodge" if she wasn't the one dodging.

I'm asking the same question. Some of you think after reading my post that I'm worried about NH becoming canon but no. I know based on the whole story that it all points to NS. Never have I doubted once and I never will. I'm just wondering why Kishi would do this kind of things. I'm kinda disappointed really. I mean he gave NH fans something to hold on to which is completely unnecessary. Wanting to keep fans buying the manga isn't a valid reason for me.

Well its the thought that counts right? If Neji weren't there then Hinata would be the one impaled. And that "family" point of view is kinda biased way to do it no offense. Not that I'm saying this is your opinion but if Sakura were to do what Hinata did, will you look at it as a sister protecting her brother being an NS fan?

If Kakashi had pulled her then the bubble would've focused more on Kakashi and probably said "pull" or something of a similar sort.
I think Sakura dodged the wood and then afterwards Kakashi grabbed her so that he could keep her by his side.
