Important things to note here:•In the first bubble, "U~n" (translated as "Um~") indicates that Naruto is thinking about it.

 

In his second speech bubble, Naruto says:

 

"Well, something like that.../Well, something along the lines of that..."

 

Important things to note here:•"Maa sonna kanji datte..." is the romanization.

 

 

• The "datte" could refer to "dattebayo", as in Naruto's catchphrase. However, this could also have a different meaning. When "datte" comes at the end of a sentence, it usually means that someone is being quoted, as in "s/he said something like that". If looking at it this way, you get the following:

 

"Well, she said something like that.../Well, she said something along the lines of that..."

 

This a viable possibility due to the fact that Naruto could be paraphrasing Sakura's fake confession.

 

And like I said above, In chapter 632 when Naruto was all scared about Sakura's strength he said that he will never poke fun of Sakura again, he was obviously referring to last chapter.

Well Naruto answer was a somehow a little "joke" or just a paraphrasing based on Sakura's fakefession and that's is the reason why she got mad immediately after.

 

Now, if we exclude 631, as i have refuted it, the last time Naruto would have even slightly confirmed his affections for Sakura would be back like 300 chapters ago when he asks her on a date... 

 

And even with all that, there's still what jiriaya said to Tsunade before he left to fight pain. About how man isn't strong unless he's been rejected enough times to joke about it.

Also can someone check if that translation he posted is correct?

@TMC The entire argument falls apart when he referred to the confession as fake, word of god says otherwise.

 

Also he's going off of purse assumption as well, Naruto's face wasn't "comical" he wasn't blushing or rubbing his head like he did with the Konohamaru experience he was being geniune. 

 

Also I don't know anyone in western or eastern cultures who would introduce someone to their (deceased) father as their girlfriend/fiancee/lover if they didn't mean it.

 

Also he responded with "sort of/something like that" if he was joking he would have been more upfront about it like with the konohamaru experience.

Well, I mean you could say "not really" or anything, but if you still on lock for Naruto and father still wish for best of luck, then it's going to happen. The only way to negate it is Naruto actually saying that the one he loves is in the cocoon.

I agree. I always chuckle when people say that he is entitled to becoming hokage because he is an Uchiha and "it would be nice for an Uchiha to finally be hokage" or that him becoming hokage with Naruto erases the "curse of hatred". That line of thought is so asinine it's unreal. I hate how people act like he didn't choose to do all the things he did and try to give him a free pass or say that it's Indra's fault that he turned out this way. If Kishi gives him a free pass I'll be pissed, like I said earlier.

I feel you men  we are both on the same page in here , as for people excusing him from all of his BS well from my experience and observation there is a simple reason for that  Sasuke is a bishie he's hot and he's hurting that's all you need to know nothing else matters   .

That person shot themself in the foot the moment they mentioned Naruto was referring to the confession. Naruto's expression doesn't look joking at all or similar to the Kushina one, especially since he didn't just say "She IS my girlfriend" with a stupid grin on his face showing he was lying or "No, she isn't" (straight truthful with no indication of having any feelings for her). He said a more honest response, like "more or less" or "sort of". That's what makes that different from the Konohanaru version, not just in his expression but in his words.

 

Oh well. When we get another huge NaruSaku moment and another sign of Naruto's feelings, then the NaruHina fans will see soon enough.

Ugh, that whole comic relief thing pisses me off. Just because it's presented as comical doesn't mean that everything in that scene is automatically invalid. For example, when Sasuke announced his desire to become Hokage, everyone (including Sakura) reacted comically but does that mean we shouldn't take Sasuke's statement seriously? No, and the fandom certainly doesn't brush it off as meaningless, so why is this different?
 
What on earth does Jiraiya's statement have to do with this??? Sakura's confession wasn't her rejecting him (quite the opposite, actually, whether or not he believed her), so why would he joke about it?
 
The translation "well, something like that..." is correct. However, the interpretation that user presented is not (I know exactly who s/he got it from, too - mezzo is a biased, unreliable translator; im not sure if she started that "he was joking about her confession" argument or if she saw that theory and put it in her translation of the scene, but either way, it's just wrong). The "tte" was referring to his father's words, NOT Sakura's. Naruto is not so petty that he would take a jab at her like that, especially after he found out Sakura's true intentions with that confession (to protect him). Man, the kind of characterization butchering and mental gymnastics you have to go through to come up with this f**cked up interpretation... Do they have no respect for Naruto's character at all? rhetorical question, i already know the answer
 
Also, if Naruto was indeed referring to Sakura's confession with "something like that," there would have definitely been a flashback, even if only a panel. Oh, and excluding 631, Naruto confirmed his feelings for Sakura in 457, when Sai has a flashback of him asking Naruto if he liked Sakura and then asking if he'd confessed yet, to which he replies, "How can I (confess)? I'm a guy who can't even keep his promise..." meaning he wants to confess, but feels unworthy. why do people act like that chapter doesn't exist
