The original phrase is "don't fall for a weird girl" in Japanese. I think there's a problem at Viz similar to at Studio Pierot- some translator is so biased against narusaku that they will distort the text, while another translator actually follows what Kishimoto wrote. The anti ns one undermines narusaku chapters (like the Viz translation of 245- clearly was done by the anti ns shipper), while 469 was done by the person who follows what Kishimoto actually wrote. I don't know if it's the Japanese people who do the raw to rough English translation or the American ones who do the grammatically correct English translation, but there's definitely two camps there. Very unprofessional I have to say.

Kushina does not mention Naruto 'picking' a girl... but rather being picked BY a weird girl.
If we look at it, Viz seems to be kind of close with their translation. And I agree with Paptala's understanding of the translation. So they are being completely neutral and professional with the translations. And they are NOT biased, ciardha. Frankly, I think you're not looking at it objectively.
Just a note: the translator is Japanese. And I'm believing her to be completely legit.

And the translator is Japanese who translated our manga in english. She also translated the Sakura confession closely towards the Mangastream translation. And I will stress this, the woman is working hard to translate our manga in English so don't bash her just because you felt whenever a NaruSaku scene seems wrong, that person is bias towards the pairing.

Kushina didn't say, "Don't fall for the first girl you fell in love with," she said, "Don't fall for the first girl that comes your way,"
Which girl was interested romantically in Naruto first? Which girl was the first girl to approach Naruto romantically? The answer is, obviously, Hinata.
Anyways, semantics aside, it's more like that the meaning of Kushina's statement was not to be rash and just take the first thing that becomes available, simply because it is available. ie don't be rash in getting into romantic relationships.
Interesting. Another way to look at is Kushina is telling him to believe in himself. Like is father told him.
You have to believe in yourself to not take the first thing that rolls down the pike. And honestly, if Naruto were less Naruto-like (meaning not quite so full of himself), he might be someone who was flattered into thinking a love like Hinata's was something he'd want. But caring for someone and loving someone deeply are quite different.
He could care for Hinata, accept her feelings and return them to some extent, plus be linked to a prominent clan head which definitely improves his standing as Hokage. Plus Hinata's sweet and all that.
With Sakura, there is great risk, but also a great love. She has no known family, no known connections, nothing that would improve his standing like Hinata. But she knows (and loves him) better than anyone else.
And ultimately, that's what a mother wants for her child. Someone who loves them deeply for the preson they are. And Sakura has always cared about him, before learning about the kyuubi and even moreso afterward. That ties into Kushina's filling the vessel with love. Sakura was one of the people that filled him with love, which prevented him from going the way of Gaara.
To be honest, I've never liked the Kushina quote about "find a girl like your mom." It's a very selfish statement. If the translation leans toward "love yourself enough to wait for the person you truly love" then I'm ok with it. That's much better parenting advice, and lines up nicely with Minato's "I believe in you" statement.

And Hinata is not that weird either...
Kushina was saying this as a general advice for Naruto.
She didn't think about Hinata or Sakura or another girl, Naruto was just a baby born when she told him that !
How could she knows about Hinata or Sakura ? lol
it's a general mother advice, just like "eat your vegetables"
I don't think Kishi wrote this to tell us : it will be absolutly cannon that it will not be Hinata / Sakura
It's a mother near to die, talking to her new born baby
Maybe it's made in order to tease us, maybe.
But i don't think this proove anything.
It's very true Sakura is like Kushina, and it's very true Naruto seems to want to follow his mother advices, but in love, you don't always listen to your parents. At first, i was like " it's proof of narusaku" lol ^^
now i see all this a little differently ^^
so about this translation, i don't think it's so much a difference.
i agree with paptala a lot.
Kushina just don't want Naruto to fall for the first girl that would cling his arm.
That's all.
And it's pretty much the same as her telling Naruto not to fall for a weird girl.
In japanese, it's written "weird girl". The sence of this is not " Hinata is a weird girl" ! Naruto already know she's not weird, just shy. And she's NOT weird. She's really kind and caring. She's trying hard for everything. She's not weird.
The sence of "weird girl" is : a girl that would cling to your arm everytime (just like Sakura was with Sasuke at first).
And there was NO girl that behave this way with Naruto.
NEVER.
Hinata was in love, but she was really discreete. And Naruto was so dense he never ever saw her love.
Sakura has very strong feelings for Naruto, but she never behave like a weird girl with him.
Yes their relation is not perfect, but who cares ? There is no such perfect couples.
NaruSaku is pretty realistic because they argued that time when Sakura told him she loves him.
THAT for me, is proof enough they care both really strongly.
Because of that fact : you don't argue with someone you don't care about.

I can assure you that mangastream translation is the closest to the original. =) Kushina said not to pick a weird one, but to find someone like his (Naruto's) mother.

im sticking to the weirdo one! "first girl you fell in love with" then say "someone like me"? That's totally mest up. She ended with "someone like me" THEREFORE she's talking about "types" and different "kinds" of girls. Therefore "weird girl" fits in more to that sentence, forget that bias crap "first girl" psh... seriously.

※ Yes, you're right. But I think that there's something deeper than this.
Hinata seemed weird to Naruto, because he couldn't understand her attitude (and yes, he didn't have a clue about her feelings). I'm sure he knew that she was nice and kind, etc., but these qualities of her character never awaken any romantic feelings in Naruto.
※ Now let's take a look at Sakura.
Remember that scene, when Naruto, disguised as Sasuke, almost kissed Sakura (don't forget that she was sure it's real Sasuke!)? Even though she's more confident and straightforward than Hinata, please, don't think that it was easy for her to tell 'Sasuke' that all she wants is to be acknowledged by him + to even make a first move with a kiss! Now remember Naruto's reaction on this: "now I finally understand why I like her so much".
※ Hinata's just not his type of girl, Sakura is.

Well said.

what confuses me is just how different the words weird and first are. Even in japanese, I'm sure they're not even close. So what's up with that??? Anyone have raws of that? Anyhow...first girl is "technically" HINATA!!! H A H A!!!!

You're probably wondering why I'm bringing this up with the previous conversation. Let's think.
It seems to me this whole thing is coinsiding with NaruSaku's main strength in Progression. Naruto asks a question to Kushina and we get the answer on how Kushina liked Minato, which we know falls within par of Naruto and Sakura. The line of "Someone like me" fits into the narrative that we have.
If Such Kushina herself was the tipping point of NS.
Though part of me thinks that when the Kushina chapters were published Pierrot got the message when they finished making the Hinata portion and went, "Crap." And is trying to back track.
Another part of me thinks that Kishi's original intention was such as they created.
However using the Anime makes me a hypocrite in some way because of my previous dismissal and hatred of it and its filler. (Filler Bad
And that's me reaffirming the obvious. CYCLE!!!!
But on the whole viz thing, they want to sell manga and Hinata fans are very present, not surprised. They're trying to keep customers, I can shrug it off.

thats what she wanted!
its still a NS hint. not Anti-NS at all!

I guess that was the correct one...
What? No, don't lose confidence! They will be together eventually. I'm just pissed that the war's starting and looks like for a while now we'll just have fighting. Who cares about the damn war, we want fluf!
Oh nioce I didn't see that mangastream thing! Yayyyy it's the "weird one" xD.
Haha yeah, I'm pretty sure Sakura is gonna pull off something in the war. I seriously don't see how she can have so many bashers/haters. Everyone is immature and stupid at some point in their lives right? She's seriously my FAVORITE anime heroine ever.. she's grown to be so strong, intelligent, beautiful! That better not go to waste lol! So far she's only been healing ppl though... -.-

Who says that the main hero/heroine has to be a god in looks? I think that the more perfect the character on any field, the less I can relate. You know?
