The main team seems to be Naruto, Sakura, Shikamaru, and Sai though which makes me feel better.

 

 

 

Remember back in the day during the Chuunin exams when Kakashi said that the Byakugan was even stronger than the Sharingan? We all thought that the Byakugan's importance got retconned after that because of the whole Sharingan/Rinnegan focus. Maybe the movie will attempt to reconcile that plothole. (It'll end up falling flat since the series is pretty much over at this point, but this is one way that the plot can be relevant to lore.)

 

The Byakugan doesn't have the same scope and versatility as the Sharingan. Whatever nonsense that Kishi or Pierrot uses to build up the relevancy of the Hyuga's precious bloodline inheritance, the addition of up-gradable levels with techniques that have turned ordinary men into legendary warriors that not even the 5 Kages can beat is an impossible plateau. The Byakugan might be comparable to the standard 3 tomoe Sharingan, but even there it's arguably less valuable given the Sharingan's knack for memorising and copying ninjutsu, genjutsu, and taijust to such a degree that the doujutsu user has been shown to match the copied technique's originator.

 

Byakugan can see the chakra pathway network and it's the tool of choice for reconnoitering. They're fairly unique perks to have, but once again the Sharingan holds comparable skills in being able to discern the chakra inside of people and inanimate ninja tools like Deidara's bombs (and these explosives were hidden underneath the earth too). Really the only serious advantage that Hyuga have over the Uchiha is a partiality for taijutsu and a fighting style dedicated to their doujutsu.

I completely agree. Which is why I said the movie trying to make the Byakugan important again will fall flat. 

 

I'm just trying to figure out how this plot could even begin to be related to the canon manga universe.

Something I noticed when rewatching the trailer:

 

1- We also had Sasuke's line about having to protect someone, because "he" isn't there. 

 

2- They referred to it as "kanketsu-hen" or some variation thereof, which means that it's like the final act of the story or involved with it somehow. I don't know in which context, since I don't understand much Japanese.

Ah, so that's what I missed... Well, looks like I won't be touching this with a ten-foot pole, if this trailer is accurately advertising the movie. Gotta love how they've let the fanbase impact the events of the actual story to such an extent.

There have been absolutely no indications that Naruto feels anything romantic for Hinata in this movie, even in this GIF. It's as if he feels like he should be around her out of sympathy. This whole movie seems to be some kind of pity party for Hinata.

 

When Naruto likes someone, he always smiles around that person.

 

 

I mean, just look at that abomination of "romantic reciprocation" in that gif. Is she going to kill herself?

When they were discussing the film, I caught them using "kanketsu-hen" or a word from which it's derived, which means "final act." In other words, they're suggesting that this movie ties into the end of the story, somehow...
